Top 20 Players in CS:GO History?
refrezh |
Denmark Phoey
Let's make a list over the best players of all time. Way to figure out! - Check all top 20 rankings from HLTV, 1st place gives 20 points, 20th place gives 1. 20. Magisk = 21 19. Happy & Fer = 24 18. Happy & Fer = 24 17. ScreaM = 26 16. Fallen = 34 15. Olofmeister = 37 14. Krimz = 38 13. JW = 40 12. F0rest = 43 11. Dupreeh = 44 10. NiKo = 47 9. S1mple = 50 8. Snax & Coldzera = 51 7. Snax & Coldzera = 51 6. Get_Right = 53 5. Flusha & Shox = 54 4. Flusha & Shox = 54 3. KennyS = 61 2. Guardian = 66 1. Device = 72

Because Device is top 1? Last year before Device had such a good placement everybody agreed with it. lmfao

because you are just turning positions into numbers and adding them, >the way HLTV analized the players along the year may have changed a lot >if HLTV actually did a top 30 plays a lot of positions would change because of how close a lot players were to entering the top 20 but didnt got mentioned in some years.

No one who only had places below 10 is on this list anyways. It would not change a single position. Stop crying.

It would not. Give me one example. There is none. I checked after your silly comment, and theres absolutely no sign or proof your statement.

It would, there is no perfect method of measuring the best player in csgo history, only different ways that may favor peaks, consistency or impact in the team's wins
2019-01-22 08:17
There is an other way to figure it out. Watch every match, every stat, every play and then decide. There is not really an all time best. There are eras, peaks. Guardian, who is considered the most consistent player of all time is also jumping up and down the rankings

Well then go calculate yourself. If you don't suck balls at counting easy numbers, then you get the same result.

This lists Device as #1, when in reality he is not. I rest my case.

No, it is based on all HLTV top 20's. You can go count it yourself if you like.

First top 20's were based on Rating 1.0 so it is incalculable and back in the day players were ranked on team achievements not performance
2019-01-22 07:53
lol if you think some tweaks to HLTVs rating makes the player's entire year mean nothing then you're retarded

there you go, look at his rating in the link (2018 only) hltv.org/stats/players/8564/fer?startDat.. and then go in the career tab and look at the (all) rating there

had one year as the best player, then took a couple months off for injury (wrist i believe?). came back and was good, but rather average overall. joins faze, not even best or second best in the team, plays his roles well though, and then takes another couple months leave. comes back again, and again, plays well, but nothing special. ...so, why should he be #1?

Not my fault that HLTV has placed him bad in so many years. This is all the points he gets.
2019-01-22 07:46
I think you did Olof wrong too, he is a bit higher. 2014 12th (9 pts), 2015 1st (20 pts), 2016 8th (13 pts), 2017 19th (2 pts) 9+20+13+2=44

HLTV ranking depends on team achievement as well so 0/8

But if team achievements depended that much Device did way better than S1mple? So your arguement sucks bro.

NiKo had 0.01 rating better, and nothing else to back it up with. Ofc there is no way he could be 2nd.
2019-01-22 07:52
Device was #5 in 2017 and s1mple #8 despite better ratings

Let me remind you that S1mple only won one event in 2k17, which was a tier 3 dreamhack open. They bumped out in groups of the major, and didn't reach anything better than a semi final in any event all year. Maybe that explains why.
2019-01-22 08:00
So HLTV ranking is based on team achievement?
2019-01-22 08:01

refrezh |
Denmark Phoey
Nope, but you can't compare events that had no top teams in it, where he had free chances to boost his stats, to actually tier 1 events. What if device went to some low tier 3 lans with Astralis, would it be fair if he gained a massive stat boost there and called him the best due to that?
2019-01-22 08:03
it's not about team achievements, but if a players rarely makes playoffs at big events, how can you compare his ratings with players who played in playoffs and finals much more often? playoffs & finals rating > groups rating
2019-01-22 08:23
I think some is wrong for example: f0rest 43 pts? 2nd in 2013 19 pts, 7th in 2014 14 pts, 16th in 2015 5 pts, 7th in 2016 14 pts 19+14+5+14 = 52

Exactly. Last year people loved it, and completely agreed with it.

Well this should prove he is the most underrated player in cs history.
2019-01-22 07:53
2019-01-22 08:18
This is unfair. CSGO competitvely had been around only for a few years. A lot of new players are slowly climbing the ranks, its too early to judge. device also never attained the level of being a top 1 player, sure he’s a top 3 elite player but never the best. Its why Michael Jordan is considered the goat despite playing much lesser seasons than LeBron and even though LeBron is stoll playing at the highest level throughout more seaons. Its because Michael Jordan attained a level LeBron never had before

No one on this list is new to the pro scene, and it only takes 2 good years to place decent on this list. Your arguement doesn't seem to be valid. Coldzera has in 3 years gained as much as Snax who has been on the list in 6 years..
2019-01-22 07:55
Yeah you prove my point. coldzera got in the scene late and accomplished more than snax in a year. But snax is generally considered a better player because he accomplished more in general and has more time. You see device has been playing csgo since the start of it but its unfair to new players. Additionally you overlooked my second arguement, device only has been the most consistent but he was never the best of his generation

are you implying 2 good years in the smaller scene of 2013-2014 are worth as much as 2 years now?

there are two "bests" if you really think about it. what you are talking about is best over the course of the lifespan of the game, but you can also look at it as the best during a players peak. as the game is still in its lifecycle and most of these players are still playing competitively, i think it is still too early to talk about best overall. plus, by this super basic point system, any context surrounding a players placement is completely ignored. for example kennyS in 2014 deserved probably top2/3 at the very least based just on his performances, but because his team accomplished jack squat he was dropped down to 6th. also, simples #1 this year was one of the most clear cut in history, whereas some other years it was much closer and even controversial (i know a lot of people think flusha deserved #1 in 2014). i think this point score does offer a cool perspective of who has been consistently at the top of the csgo scene, but is by no means a definitive list for the actual ranking of best players overall. at least not yet.
