Sad. Another youngster throwing his career away by signing with a big club....sigh. Should have stayed in Ajax for atleast 2-3 more years or signed with a "smaller" club that would actually have him in the starter XI. We all know players such as Busquets, Rakitic, Vidal, Coutinho & Rafinha when hes back from injury, will start / be in the XI instead of him.

Agree plus he isnt worth 75m, Michel Vlap from herenveen has much better stats and he plays the same, just hyped up because he is from ajax academy
2019-01-23 18:34
More hyped because he has performed hugely in Champions league almost winning Bayern Munchen while Vlap hasn't proved in Europe yet.

Well obv i hope he gets a place in the XI etc, but i have seen TONS of youngsters in his age fail badly in bigger teams like Barca / Real etc & ended up being mega benched / not in squad and yeah...just basically losing their career.
2019-01-23 18:46
It seems to be a common strategy for big clubs nowadays : poach many youngsters and stars, sometimes not to make them play but just to avoid other clubs having them.

Not really he seems to be viewed as Iniesta or xavi
2019-01-23 18:42
He is still by no means as good as Rakitic/Coutinho/Busquets/dembele
2019-01-23 19:02
Yea agreed but he has potential to be a future star thats wht Barca buy him
2019-01-23 19:03
Connsidering that most of these players' contracts end in 2021-2022, I think it's a bit early for him.
2019-01-23 19:06
Well the thing is barca were insecure that someone else will buy him psg
2019-01-23 19:06

30 & 31 yeah? Rakitic got a contract until 2021 Vidal got a contract until 2021 Both of these 2 could 100% extend their contract with atleast a year. "and he joins summmer", you make it sound like De Jong will be 26 when he joins Barca, he still shouldnt join a really big club when hes this young. TONS of young players in the age of 18-22 have failed badly when they went from a small team or, in this case Ajax, simply because they are to young & cant handle the really big pressure compared with the league they played in before.
2019-01-23 18:40
not that simple bruh, he has a place in barça - rafinha (i don't think he'll ever play for fcb again) - coutinho (not a midfielder in barça's system) - rakitic (he will probably leave to get one last huge contract) real competition will be + ARTHUR (you forgot this dude and he's GOOD) + riqui puig (youngster) + aleñà (youngster)

Rafinha is injured, back in may isch. "rakitic (he will probably leave to get one last huge contract)" Hes still on a 2 year deal until 2021 with Barca. "he has a place in barça" everyone says this about every youngster that join a gigantic club, then they end up failing really badly. I mean, examples: Martin Ödegaard - Everyone hyped him up like hell, hes now been stuck in Real Madrid Castilla & is on loan in Netherlands & plays like garbage. Alexander Isak - I love this guy, he came from my team here in Sweden, but hes stuck in Dortmund & is hella benched / plays in U19 even tho he was signed for the "main squad".
2019-01-23 18:45
rafinha was supposed to be traded to inter a couple months ago, but somehow trade talks got botched (nobody really knows what happened?). He won't be a barça player for long anyway, so he is definitely not competition for de jong. Rakitic almost left for psg last summer and most people here believe that he'll leave next summer if he gets a similar offer. and please dont compare odegaard (a 16 year old kid ultrahyped by the comically bad madrid sports press) to a guy who's a centerpiece for a strong champions league side, who also happens to be an ajax product (which coincidentally fits barça style like a glove)

Not comparing m8. I am talking about them both being at a young age, so they shouldnt be like "OMG BARCA CALLED?!?!?! OK LETS SIGN A DEAL!!", they should chill, they are still really young & need lots of time on the pitch.

lol ödegaard has not been garbage in netherlands, he's doing decent for his age. pretty sure he'll become a decent player for some top 6 team in any big league. to counter with other examples: neymar left at the same age, went very well for him at barca mbappe left even earlier, decent career so far messi didn't have to start in a bad league cr7 went to united at 18 varane 19 year to real aaand list goes on, there is no evidence of playing in smallers teams at 18-21 being better. i'm sure he'll get plenty of playtime next year (he'll be 22!! that's not SO young anymore) and he'll train everyday with the likes of busquets.. no world class talent at 22 should be playing in Ajax, that's waste of talent

Rakitic will take cone Busquets place, and Barça's midfield will be Rakitic because he is the only one that rn adds what he has apart from Busquets but Busquets if falling downwards, just stealing paychecks to Barcelona.

2019-01-23 18:42

"Also he joins in summer." I know? Still got a shitload of star/bigger players ahead of him. Barcelona got 2 def-midfielders, Busquets & Samper He would probably replace Busquets, but Busquets contract is out in 2 years (1½ years when De Jong joins) so he will have a really hard time for atleast 1½ years atleast, also depends on if Barca wants to resign Busquest for 1-2 more years. I mean, obv i want De Jong to play, hes good, but he still got some "stars"/bigger players infront of him.
2019-01-23 18:55
Samper isn't better than de Jong. And about busquets, they get replacement in the form of de Jong, so I don't see you point

I mean, by your logic, if he waits 3 years and go to a smaller club, he will be 24, then play what? 2 or 3 seasons and move to a giant club? he would be 27 by that time. the sooner the better. If a club starts to pay you 4x more, do u think he would stay in ajax? also if get a serious injury your plans can go downhill. so yea, sign with barca at ANY age. no matter what

"Like anyone cares about Ajax" Yes? One of the best clubs to bring forward young talents. de Ligt, De Jong obv, but also players like Pasquali, Ché Nunnely, Carel Eiting & also Kaj Sierhuis (On loan to Groningen atm tho). Obv there is a bunch of more players, these 6 players are imo the best ones they signed for the "A-team" & U19/21 last 5-6 years.

2019-01-23 21:36
True, but I really hope not. He's a beast and I really like him. Also their midfield is getting old too. But I agree so many young talents ruin their careers by joining their "dream club" Like Malcom, almost joining roma, would perfectly fit in there 80+mins guaranteed, but no, decides to join Barca. No chance getting on the pitch when Messi is there. Now has 6 apps. And wtf happened with that Odegaard guy? No experiences in tier 1 league, went for money and joined RM fkn nobrain

Malcom's move was a facade by Bartomeu. He just bought Malcom out of spite for Roma to keep the voters happy.
2019-01-23 22:28
i won't defend Bartomeu cause i despise him, but in this case i truly think that barça's staff really wanted Malcom. Valverde on the other hand wanted the club to shell 75 freaking million € for 30 year old Willian, barça staff did not cave and went for Malcom instead. Valverde went lowkey mad and sent the poor guy to the dog house for like 3 months...

I don't know the extent of truth in this but what I do know is that it was a really wasteful move. Today Malcom was totally lost and played utter shit.
2019-01-23 23:26
Valverde being mad at the staff cause of the Willian thing is a "known secret" around here... The staff itself really wanting Malcom - who knows. And yeah, the poor guy is playing like shit, but can you really blame him? He's out of rhythm and his confidence is shot. I honestly feel bad for him and wish he'd gone to Roma.
