Drinking in public is decided by states, counties and towns. There is no country wide ban on drinking in public and even states that do have public drinking laws still have towns and cities within them that allow you to drink in public. It's stupid and confusing, like my state it's illegal to drink in public but in my town it's permitted.

And what about the legal age to buy alcohol ? Is it 21 all around the USA ? In France and most of Europe it's 18.

yeah 21 nation wide, which is dumb. You can vote at 18, join a service at 18 and marry at 18 but you can't drink.. The reason most people in america think we are the most free country in the world is because thats what we've all been fed since birth. We arn't really as free as most like to think.

Also I feel like there's a lot of taboos and social pressure in the US. I have a friend from Seattle, she spends a few months a year in France and Europe since she's 20. She always tell me about how people are more relaxed here, only enjoying life without any pressure.

I'd agree, i like learning about other cultures and what daily life is for the rest of the world and it does seem like the usa in comparison is a more stressful place to live socially and just in general. I've seen some countries where a 3-4 day work week is all they put in and that allows them more time to enjoy life whereas here most people work at least 5 days a week just to make ends meet, it's just way to stressful here.

Oh i see. In France the maximum amount of work is 35h / week. And your boss can't ask you to work more than 8 hours in the same day (anyway you're already losing a lot of productivity passed the 6th hours so working more would just be staying longer at the office like a useless zombie). Of course you can work more than 35h/week but it's up to you, and each hour worked after the 35th is usually paid twice, so your boss might be asking you to do some extra only for a really important reason as he's gonna pay you double. Also you have the right to refuse. This limited working time allows us more time to spend with family and relatives, more time to go to the museums or the cinema, or even, and that was the whole point of this policy, having more informed citizens who have more time to get involve in the local or national politics. When we switched to 35h in 2000 the government (socialist party at this time) wanted any citizen to be in good conditions to actually care about politics and be able to get involved in the Republic. Also less stress = less disease and fatigue = better health = happier and more productive but also more creative.

This is why i envy other countries, it may not seem like a lot but to have just a bit more time to enjoy life makes a world of difference on a person. Before i started my own business i was a cnc machine operator in a factory and we worked a minimum of 6 days a week, 5 days of "regular" 10 hour shifts and then saturday was a 12 hour shift. Anything after 40 hours is only paid as time and a half not double time. It really beats a person down and after 10 years i quit because i was starting to turn into a really angry person to the point i thought of shooting the place up. Now im back to my calmer happier self working when i want to.

Wow that's sad, but I'm glad you had the courage to quit before it turns you crazy. Also congratulations in starting your own business. Work is alienating, and can be used as a weapon to prevent the poors and the many to think about their society or the system. Coming home after 10 hours grinding hard at the office or the factory don't really allow you time and energy to create strong social links and run your own projects. Marx saw this quite early, the bourgeoisie will always want the workers to work longer, not only for more profits but mainly for social control.
2019-01-28 18:17
I'll gladly take our work ethics over France and work the extra hours for the right to defend my family when terrorist walk the streets with AK-47s mowing people down like has happened in France. Feel free to move there and drink wine"worry free" with the sheep.

"Work ethics" has nothing to do with the right to defend your family/property etc. Putting in extra hours doesn't do anything to protect you or your family from "terrorist" roaming the streets with AK's. What we were talking about is how social systems affect people in a variety of ways and how our countries are different in certain aspects.
2019-01-28 20:36
Sort of a stupid thing to compete on. For starters I recall you guys having all sorts of shootings where idiots/terrorists go crazy with guns be it at schools/malls/movie theaters and there was also that thing in Vegas. So in other words those great gun laws of yours aren't really giving much freedom - in fact I fail to any freedom in having it a normal thing for kids in schools to have drills on what to do if there is a shooter, not to mention what anxieties it must mean for parents when their kids are at school. If that is freedom you can have it as we do not want it. And as for the work thing - what you aren't realizing is that people on this side of the pond are as productive as in the US. We just work smarter and spend less time on bureaucratic BS, so we then do not have to work so much. This goes even more so for those working service jobs - people here can earn a living and do not have to work two jobs.
2019-01-28 20:44
yeah in "gun free zones" imagine that. There are MANY incidents where someone attempts to go on a shooting spree and gets shot instantly by a good guy with a gun
2019-01-28 21:11
The whole thing that shootings is a daily thing is hard to imagine over here. I understand you have like almost one a day. Also does those "MANY" incidents outnumber those where people are accidentally shot, just because someone doesn't know how to handle a firearm or because the weapons is discharged by a kid? Or the lawful shooting where a cop shoots someone thinking he or she had a gun, because that is also something which doesn't happen over here.
2019-01-28 23:04
I'm not sure about accidental shootings. One thing to put into perspective when you are talking about the USA and shootings. It is a huge country in comparison to yours, you could combine all countries and Europe and still not be as big geographically, so of course more things happen in a day here. The liberal agenda is what focuses on gun deaths when reality more people die by blunt objects such as a hammer here than guns even though we have many of them. The best part about the 2nd amendment, the government can never round us up and mass execute citizens which has happened in other countries in the past. Also, we are the toughest country to invade in the world due to the unspoken citizen army of the United States that would rise up in such a time. The Japanese considered an invasion on WW II and quickly thought better of it as one of their generals said there would be a gun behind every blade of grass if they did. We have freedom of speech only because of the 2nd amendment, many of these idiot kids don't realize that here these days and would gladly give their rights away. One day they probably will and quickly realize why they had them once they are gone.

(3) Censorship is not permitted. 2019-01-29 18:49
so it doesn't?
2019-01-29 18:49
it does besides calling fire in a theater and treason (illegal in most other t1 countries) plus idk where i say the usa has 100% freedom of speech without clarifying the limits
2019-01-29 18:54
so it doesn't? "no country has 100% freedom of speech except usa" #8
2019-01-29 18:56
do you know what clarifying means? Thats why i clearly state "besides calling fire in a theatre" in the comment, try reading next time
2019-01-29 18:58
"besides calling fire in a theatre and treason" So you admitted that there are restrictions on freedom of speech thus the US doesn't have 100% freedom of speech. + It's like saying "Germany has no taxes except for [taxes]"
2019-01-29 19:00
are you baiting? saying "Germany has no taxes (except for taxes) means 100% of Germans have to pay taxes (assuming thats the law there) saying USA has 100% freedom of speech except for something is me saying it doesn't have 100% freedom of speech, if i was saying that i wouldn't obviously state (BESIDES CALLING FIRE IN THEATER) its like me saying the us has 99.99% freedom of speech

Snowden revealed to the world that the USA are using illegal methods to spy everybody even allied presidents and governments, stealing industrial secrets, military informations and stuff, even from friend countries like UK or France. He also revealed that the NSA was dealing with FB, Apple, Microsoft, and co to have bigger databases and spying and manipulating its own citizens. Basically he revealed that the USA were using highly autoritarian tools, unthinkable in a democracy and even more unthinkable in the self-called "best democracy in the world". Assange is another story. He showed leaked files from CIA and US army about the US army in Iraq and Afghanistan. He revealed to the world that the US army was torturing a lot of people, even innocent people, shitting on the Geneva Convention and the most basic human rights rules. Once again showing to the world that USA is acting like a fucking cowboy, neglecting basic rights and freedoms.

I agree that relatively free and democratic countries is pretty common today and that the US is far to be the best one in 2019. But that is just the American mentality, they want to push the limits in everything and can't accept not being #1. However, I would not say that authoritarian countries are rare. There are the rich ones like China or Turkey that got the power to control and suppress the people but also many pretty dictatorial African or Asian countries that simply don't have the money and ressources to impose a firm grip on the population. EDIT : And of course, the West is far to be perfect. We got huge problems of political corruption and propaganda press for example.

2019-01-28 18:51
You can say anything you want in the US with reasonable exceptions like threatening violence, making bomb threats etc. You even have a nazi flag flying outside your house. In any eu country you would be put in prison for that.
2019-01-28 18:57
But I'm not aware of any case in Europeans are sent in prison because they said their government is spying on their own citizen such as Snowden is threaten off. So I wonder what is worst : to be fined (because no, not all countries of Europe will sent you away for that) because you make publicity of something that killed millions of civilians or to be jailed for revealing that your government betrayed its own people?
2019-01-28 19:08
Nope. It would be really distasteful, but I think Germany is likely the only country where a Nazi flag will get you in trouble with the law.
2019-01-28 20:36
Nope, Its illegal in most countries with hate speech laws (all of europe)
2019-01-28 20:55
You're wrong. Not only do I find it very unlikely such laws exist in all of Europe, remember Europe is much more than the EU and also a lot of places the laws on hate speech will cover saying things about an individual or groups - and displaying for example the swastika is not the same as hating on a specific group or individual.

I am sure there is way more than five countries where you do not have full freedom. And in fact not even the US is free. But bring it - which 5 are you referring to - pretty sure I can double your list without any problems.

An American is really someone who cherishes their freedom of speech, freedom to fight for their countryand freedom from slavery. Being an American is tough, and you gotta sure damn darn it! Oppurtunity of success, work hard and American Dream. Come in through a legal system and it's all good.
2019-01-28 21:01
You make it sound as the things you list are something special for Americans. I promise you it is not. People everywhere work hard for success. The definition of success is sure to vary, but fundamentally it is the same. In countries where the access to education is not dependent on the wallets on your parents, there is less red tape on creating and running a business and so on the road to success is easier.

You're a liar
2019-01-28 22:52
No I am not. What is it you think I've lied about? That there are countries where everyone that wants get to have a higher education including college? That there are countries where opening a business is easier than in the US? And it takes less administrative work when running a business? Or that those factors combined with others makes the road to success easier? Fact is that social mobility is higher in many other places than the US. Especially the access to education for all, the good social security network and the universal health care means making something of one self is more available and also hold less risk of total failure than in the US. Ie. the American dream is more a reality.

All I know is that Europe is a listless continent humbled by countless Jihads. I've even heard they changed the name of Sweden to Swedenistan. It's turrible. All those white people in pain. Used to be we really like the idea of Scandinavian socialism but ever since the Muslims took all the white women hostage and impregnated them I've felt like universal healthcare is most likely a bad idea. Barack Obama got us up to 92% coverage and I definitely don't like what I've been seeing as is. White boys and Asian women all over the place. It ain't right. For that reason I support just a few things. My freedom. A fuck off military that could tear the entire world a new one and an end to planned parenthood. Planned parenthood literally just exists to kill babies. It's cray cray as Kanye would put it. Oh and a wall. All Mexicans are rapists and our population is already 13% black. I'll let you draw the conclusion there. I'm sure there are some nice people in both groups though. Also if you try to take my AR-15 I will blow my fucking top and your head off. All these libtards calling it an assault rifle. You see we got the liberals tricked. They don't realize that semi-automatic rifles are way more dangerous in real life then automatic ones are. So we just call assault rifles automatic and get away with it. LOL We knew that shit back in the 70s when we gave soldiers automatic rifles and they emptied their magazine in three seconds and all the bullets went over the enemies heads. Hell you don't even fire machine guns in full auto. 5-7 round bursts my friend. Pop those mellons. And hold onto your assault rifles. Anyway. All this is to say that we are freeer then you. Steve Bannon and Breitbart both confirmed this fact to me. You womenless Euros can say all you want but we know. Anyway. America out. Also my favorite meme is that eagle crying. Shit is fucking dope bro. A

Germany. Another country raped by countless Jihads. A young woman can't even walk in the subway without being forcibly groped by a muslim. Can't even protect ya own women. Shit not only that your president is a women. It's like one giant Vagina getting blown up by Islamists every few weeks. Lord Almighty. Germany you don't even get the right to talk until you get your house in order. Now there was a man who lived about 70 years ago who had some good ideas. I'm not saying anymore then that. I'm sure there were good people on both sides. But if you need some inspiration for taking your country back I know where I'd look.

"Germany. Another country raped by countless Jihads. A young woman can't even walk in the subway without being forcibly groped by a muslim. Can't even protect ya own women." he said while living a country with a much higher rape rate than germany.

No one cares what Germans have to say. Look we imported all your smart folks back in the 40s. Literally. That's how we blew Japan into a million little pieces. Also the foundation for the fuck off military I described in my original posting to you gentlemen. In fact most good white Americans have German ancestry. So it brings me no pleasure to put you and your kind down boy. But you gonna have to fix some things before Trump gives you a seat at the table. I'm gonna need to see 4% GDP military spending because Daddy knows you got it. You gonna need to get those Syrians out. Our military boys need blondes to fuck when they get deployed to all our bases over there. Trust me I know. Also what's with this EU bullshit. You used to be the shit back in the day Germany. In fact here in the states we were against the great wars. Both of them. Bunch of fucking hippies. Til we grabbed our sacks and nutted up. Why? Because Germany was throwing dingers at the wrong motherfuckers for too long. You all have always been sparky but lately it's been dissapointing. So do what Trump says and get it together. One day your freedom might be as good a brand as ours. I mean right now we're Apple and your Microsoft. Your shit is just old, boring and worst of all? Beta. as. fuck.

Look man I get bored during my 16 hour work day. But it's America and I'm working for my kids and my wife. Pretty soon here I'll be up to nine dollars an hour. It's hard to take care of six motherfuckers but birth control is a damn sin. Fox told me that. Anyway point is I got some time on my hands while I'm at work. I thought I'd educate you Germans on why you suck now. Why you were awesome in the first half of the 20th century and how you could maybe get back there. None of you seem to be all that interested though. So. Whatamigonnado?

There is no freedom , 99 percent of everyone in this world is a slave for money . You have no freedom. Theres no fresh water you can drink outside or fruit you can take from.trees (talking about europe) , you need this little thing called money and it controls your entire life. You can say i wont work but you have no money so the quality of your life is shit. Everybody who thinks hes free is delusional.

Why go outside for water? You can drink it from the tap. In the USA you can't even do that, because Nestle bought all water.

2019-01-29 18:52
Jay_320 is hysterical, really had me laughing hard. But some people really believe those things to be true. The actual truth is bad enough. There are many countries with less freedom than USA, at least half of the countries in the World. Freedom also means freedom of speech and freedom from human rights violations and discrimination against race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexuality ... so that rules out half of Africa, Asia and South America, most muslim countries, some european countries, some States in USA and the Mind of Donald Trump (assuming there is such a thing). Whats even worse: In most places things are going the wrong way. That includes USA, Russia, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Israel and a lot of other countries, that likes to think of themselves as modern and democratic. China is superoppressive and India more or less has segregation and oppression of religious minorities and women (but at least is still a democracy). Youre from Brazil, an ubercorrupt Country, that has just "elected" a sexist polluting Trump wannabe. In my own country, Denmark, we have a Government, that can only pass Legislation when relyiing on a nationalist populist semiracist party, that always adds something xenofobic to any law that is passed. That is the case many places in Europe. Bad times.
