How the hell do someone like to see a bunch of men running side to side? There's absolutely no skill, you just run and run and sometimes kick the worst ball in the world

the only time in the game where there was helmet to helmet action the Rams got a personal foul and the patriots got a fresh set of downs 15 yards down the field.

"the patriots got a fresh set of downs 15 yards down the field." Not sure what that means, but anyway Got any tldr for touchdown - 1. why they moved to 50cm distance to their own section which made them into literally 2 steps to scoring? 2. why they scoring into their own section (field with their label)?

I had to look back at the highlights to see what you were talking about. So each team has their backs to their own end zone in the first half of the super bowl. In every game of football, the teams switch sides at half time, so in the second half the field is just flipped and the patriots have to go the other way to "their" end zone. I can see how this is confusing because each team getting their own custom end zone only happens in the super bowl. Alright so this is how they got within 1 or 2 yards of scoring. The rams punted the ball away as they failed to convert on 3rd and 22 (which is VERY unlikely to convert) and had to punt on 4th down because if you try to get to the line for the 1st down and don't make it on 4th down, the other team gets the ball where your player was down. Because of this, they did what teams usually do on 4th down. They punted the ball far away to give the patriots worse field position. The patriots then got the ball where it was downed. Then Brady and the Pats drove down the field and Brady threw a SPECTACULAR pass to the tight end Gronkowski. Because he caught the ball, maintained possession, and was downed by the defense before crossing the goal line, the patriots got the ball at that mark. Because they were so close to the endzone, the Patriots called a running play and let their offensive line create a hole for the running back to run through and score a touchdown. tldr: Rams punt, Pats got the ball and drove down the field, Brady to Gronk at the 2 yard line, running play turns in to touchdown. Sorry for making this so long. I know the game can be confusing if you have 0 experience watching it

Probably one of the most complete sports out there. I prefer watching College Football than the NFL
2019-02-04 14:06
not as complete as one that involves intricate footwork, speed, strength, acute technique to convert on set pieces (including extensive use of the magnus effect for the ball to pass obstacles and go where you want it to go), complex strategy and tactics for teamwork which also require a lot of team chemistry and the players with the right skills on the right places and we got 5 wc on that one tho (i'm not a handegg hater, just wanted to point that out)

Are you implying american football isn't an extremely complex sport? Do you know how hard it is to be an offensive/defensive coordinator and to work in unison to make sure an entire offensive/defensive unit works perfectly? If you're gonna be ignorant about american football and not learn anything about it then stop talking about it. You're not qualified to give an opinion on something you know nothing about.
2019-02-04 14:59
I said "not as complete" and then said I'm not a hater of the sport, I'm just saying there's one sport that's the most complete one on earth and that's why it's also the biggest

How is football not fully complete? What makes International football more complex than football? To be fair, I am not a soccer fan, so as a casual viewer of your sport I don't have as much knowledge on the subtle details or overall strategy.
2019-02-04 19:37
I mentioned most stuff at #17. I think there's a lot more elements in it and the skill ceiling is much higher. Just look at the age kids have to start playing football just so they can get into a professional club and all the structure they gotta go through

football? (the real one not american football)
2019-02-04 14:26
both sports involve people running on a flat field. in one, running is not considered an impressive skill, its simply something you need to do for 2x 45 minutes. in the other, which has more breaks, apparently, its considered impressive to run. id like to know why.

I can't talk to you if you think it's "running on a flat field"
2019-02-04 14:30
why not, that is what it is. in eu football, there is a flat field, there are 2 ppl in the goal on each side, there is 0 or 1 player who has control of the ball, and the others are running around on that flat field. ive very rarely heard a football commentator comment on how well a player was running. they comment on ball control of course, but in your football you dont even have to kick the ball to move around, you can just hold it and run. so my question naturally becomes, how is running forward without having to kick a ball or perform any task besides maintaining your balance an impressive skill. im sure there must be something about it. there must be more to it than 300 pound beefcakes running on an open field slamming into each other and whoever is the most massive wins.

It's called route running and it's apart of offensive play calls and concepts. Route running is all about beating the coverage and creating separation. It's easy to discredit because pros like Julian Edelman, Adam Thielen, and Zach Ertz make it look ridiculously easy. Creating separation and running a route perfectly are very hard and require a lot of practice and good execution. As someone who practiced for football, I can tell you route running is one of the things wide receivers focus most on in practice to become better and get more open.
2019-02-04 15:03
so it is just about maintaining your balance and not getting slammed by another 300 pound dude. you realize that that is literally the game of tag right. 5 year olds can play it.

youtube.com/watch?v=RVDpLb5ZrGA Tag isn't a good analogy considering there's a lot of hand to hand combat for press coverage or when you're fighting for the ball. I think this breakdown by Doug Baldwin is really good in showing the subtle complex maneuvers that make every play and the true mastery of it on the highest level.
2019-02-04 19:35
it seems a lot less technical than trying to kick a ball into a goal with precision from distance. youre trying to dodge someone. i guess there is something like that kicking precision involved in throwing that weird shaped ball. that video, like, its kinda weird for me that you can analyze it so much. there is a big dude in front of you. if you run around him and catch the ball then you win. if he catches you, you cant catch the ball. still seems kinda braindead to me. you can either try to pass him on the left or on the right. its not like in basketball where you have to pass the ball around and play tactically in that regard to create an opening to score. you can just throw it forward at a guy who runs really fast past the opponents.
2019-02-04 23:24
and hand to hand combat, should that be a part of a civilised sport? i think we invented sports so men would have a way to compete without hand to hand combat
2019-02-04 23:26
the match is all about run and dodge, run and dodge

So throwing the ball about 50 yards (or more) accurately, is not skillfull? Catch the ball under pressure isnt skillfull? There are more people on the field and they block for you that you can run. Also they must know hundreds of moves and combinations. Sorry but I think there is much more than just running the ball on a flat field. There are so many tacticts to counter against the system of the other team. There are 53 men in your team and everyone must do his job. If not you just loose.
2019-02-04 14:56
Requires no skill - many receivers and running backs run 40 yard dash under 4.5 seconds , yet these close-minded Europeans gonna say it is easily achievable , well sure , why don't you run 36.5 meters in 4.5 seconds ? Throwing balls , especially HANDEGG balls is not as easy as it seems on videos , yet most of you would throw it like a tennis ball ( and that would be extreme failure ) - still , requires no skill you'd say , and what about field awareness ? Unless you are extremely lucky to not have that skill , you would be toasted in every action and get injured every game , which is true for every position in that sport ... Footwork , you guys be like what footwork , he is just running , if it was just running every passing action would end with interception ... Primary skill of wide receivers is to ditch , or like you'd say , dodge them ... I wasn't aware of this sport until I came on Purdue , but as someone who was watching only soccer for the first 18 years I can say that HANDEGG is way more skilled than soccer will ever be , because players in soccer are so easily replacable ... There is always gonna be another Zidane , another Modric , another Messi and another Ronaldo , but there is never gonna be another Jerry Rice and another Tom Brady
2019-02-04 15:17
And for the people who are asking why is named football , you can blame your fellows in the UK ... At the beggining of rugby , it was also labelled as football , so when people started playing american and canadian football , they just needed something different to name it other than rugby and football , as it was already taken by soccer and rugby ( which was , like I said , already labelled as football )

So just because real football was named football already it's to be blamed lol nice logic there. They should have named it american rugby or so, no point it naming it football when only 1 or 2% of it has something with a foot.

Football is like the perfect military sport. It's very fun for the coaches but can be very boring for any player who is not a quarterback. The offensive and defensive coordinators imagine themselves like generals during a battle
