Major in California?
kennyS |
United States kennyS_1_major_Guardian_0
Yes I know like half of the comments here are going to be "IBP should host the major OMEGALUL" but what do yall think? I know there's been 3 majors already in the US but they've all been in either the east coast (Atlanta and Boston) or mid east (Columbus) Why not host one in the most populous state in the US? The closest thing we've ever had to a major was IEM Oakland, and to get from LA to Oakland is 4 hours (plus they don't even do Oakland anymore so)
2019-02-08 01:42
That would fuck over EU due to the timezones.

Yeah but most of the playerbase isn't on USA's west coast Same for Australia despite Australian events being good
2019-02-08 01:52
Well most of the playerbase isn't in Ohio (MLG Columbus major) either now isn't it?
2019-02-08 01:57
Columbus operates under Eastern Standard Time, which likely is the largest playerbase.
2019-02-08 01:58
Ohio population: 11.66 million (2017) California population: 39.54 million (2017)
2019-02-08 02:00
Are you being intentionally obtuse? Eastern Standard Time Zone: 150.2 million (Ohio's time zone) Pacific Standard Time Zone: 53.0 million (California's time zone) The population of the state that the major is being hosted in is irrelevant.

He has to be trolling u. Nobody is that stupid that they think Ohio is the only state in eastern time zone.
2019-02-08 02:06
You're not getting the argument I'm trying to make and I'm not going to sit here and try to type up an essay so I'll just say that I agree with you when you say that EST has more people than PST, but in terms of the individual states, there's more people dying for a major in California than in Ohio.

U realize that America don’t come close to fans and viewers in csgo compared to Europe right??? They will never do a major or huge event that will basically make 3/4 of its audience unable to watch the event. They will do it to Americans because they wouldn’t lose that much audience compared to the other way around.
2019-02-08 02:17
Fair enough. I'm just hoping that I'll be able to reasonably drive to a big CS event 1 day in my home state.

2019-02-08 02:09
I agree with you 100% but the point that I'm trying to get to is that I want there to be a major in California so that I and other CS:GO fans in California can attend it. I know that sounds very selfish but you get what I'm trying to say right?

2019-02-08 01:47
ur literally only 2-3 hours ahead, whats the problem?
2019-02-08 01:52
The problem is I want to GO to a major just like a ton of other CS:GO fans in the west coast, watching it from home is a completely different experience than watching it there in the arena. I'd also rather not want to fly 5 and half hours and have to worry about booking flights and hotels and all that shit.

you still live in california, one of the richer states and you are complaing that you would need to travel a tiny bit to get to a major

1. I agree with you that California is one of the richer states but I'm from an immigrant family who came after the Vietnam War so I certainly wouldn't consider myself rich. 2. "The global audience for CS:GO tends to hit its peak at around 14:00 EST, so we prefer proposals that can place the most important match-ups around that time. Note that it’s easier for an online audience to stay up a little late than to wake up early, and arena audiences don’t like to attend as late as online audiences peak viewership, which means that ideal locations are between EST and CET."

Major in NA? No thanks. Also California time zone is even worse than New York etc. New York / Orlando / Miami / Washington / Pittsburgh >>>>>>>>> California / Los Angeles etc. And that simply because of time zones. East coast >>>>>>>> West coast for EU viewers.
2019-02-08 01:48
Yes I understand that PST is a worse time zone for EU viewers but you have to realize that it's the other way around as well. All of the viewers in the west coast get fucked over too

"All of the viewers in the west coast get fucked over too" Well, not really. LA time right now: 5PM New York time right now: 8PM Sweden time right now: 2 AM TL:DR 3 hours diff, lol. It is 9 hours diff between Sweden & LA & "only" 6 hours diff between Sweden & New York. TL:DR New York / Orlando / Miami / Washington / Pittsburgh major >>>>>>> Cali / LA major
2019-02-08 01:59
No no no you're misunderstanding what I'm trying to say I don't care if there's events in the US, I can 100% watch those But when there's an event in Sweden and the match starts at 12 AM, it would mean that it's 3 AM for us and idk about you, but I'd rather get my sleep than stay up at 3 in the morning to watch a match
2019-02-08 02:04
Truth is though, as an audience Europe just outnumber westcoast NA and Australia, life just isn't fair that way. if the stats supported it I am sure there would be some companies trying to sell their big tournament to Valve on the west coast. There are plenty of things people lose out on all the time because of their location, if it's a really big deal for you to attend a major maybe consider saving up and going to an east coast one?

There are a lot of problems related to hosting a major in the US, even tho I agree with the idea of having a major in California would be awesome. First, there are timezone problems. Organisers aim to get the most viewers from the event, and EU is the ideal spot for that. Second, VISA issues occuring lately. If a team from some low tier country qualifies to the major, there is a high chance that their VISA’s applications will be declined, therefore the team will be replaced by another one.
2019-02-08 16:46
Well, it was worth a shot. I'm glad that you think it's an awesome idea but according to what people have said, it's like 99.99999999999999999999% that Cali will never get a major.

I think you dont understand what illegal means Illegal immigrabts means they croas the border with no visa and shit Legal immigrants crossed with visa and they can stay with no trouble Mexican Americans are the ones born there or with legal papers us citizens

Reason Mexico lost all of that territory was due to the Mexican-American war where Mexico was trying to populate their northern territories and invited Southerners to live in Texas which turned out to be their biggest mistake since Texas then tried to gain independence due to anglos outnumbering mexicans, USA at first was going to stay out of the dispute until Mexican soldiers killed multiple americans which then declared war with American victory. Tho at first the US government did offer to buy the territories but Mexico refused all of them. In the end due to the war, Mexico sold their northern territories anyway.
