With so much discussions regarding whether teams are good or bad, adding who to a roster is a strong buff or removing who is bad, i want to discuss in this thread what makes a team good?
My view is: a team does not need world-class players, but a balance of decent players. many people like to jump to the conclusion nowadays that adding any star-player would be a big boost to the team, such as Faze - AdreN + s1mple, or ENVY - Karrigan + literally anyone. While i do believe that personal skill is an important factor, i think that it shouldn't be what counts. Many teams don't have star players or tier 1 players, but they can outperform teams that do have them or have more star players.
Astralis is the best example imo, with a good balance of tactics and firepower, they were undeniably the king of csgo in 2018 (latter half year). They are definitely not the best example however, since all of their players are in the top 20 of 2018.
I think it comes down to two different ideologies teams follow: either a superteam with one or two star-players, or a team that does not have star-players but teammates that work well together.
