Never put time into the bench press. I can Dip 1 rep with +70kg tho while having a bad shoulder if that makes for it :D

2019-02-09 21:43
Done wrongly 100%, you can work on weighted stuff like Dips and Pull ups if you go smart about it. Anyway, me doing that while injured was a thing out of pure ego.
2019-02-13 21:44
What you can dip 5 times (including your body weight), you can bench once. Assuming proper form

Bro you want to die? 1 rep max on dips lmao
2019-02-12 13:16
I have a pretty good dip to not ''die'' by working with X amount of weights added. Not recommended for someone who can barely perform 5 straight bodyweight dips, obviously this kind of people has no biz doing that. Same applies to pull ups for example.
2019-02-13 21:49
I have never tried a 1-rep-max but when I was at my strongest I did 4 reps on 100kg. I never tried to go heavier than that.
2019-02-09 20:26
imo if u bench 100kg then u can call urself quite strong
2019-02-09 20:27
or stronger than most of human population
2019-02-09 20:27
You know, I compare myself to my friends and they all lifted way more than me so I looked ''weak'' next to them.
2019-02-09 20:28
Dont compare yourself! Every body is a different world and there is a lot of things that can help/destroy your health. Anabolics or those kind of shitty things. The thing that maybe helps them is genetic plus their bodytype; sometimes there is some russian who can lift an a insane amount of pounds but then you go to sweden and they are not that strong but they could be more lean or having more definition. I can keep going but the point it's your objective: stronger, getting volume or just define your body and lose weight. Some people think they can be rocky but there is a lot of things behind that not just trying a deadlift with 160kg.. its a way of life (to me it's 70% food 30% training) and at least you are an athlete or a culturist there is no sense trying to be someone who compete or taking to another level or overtraining your body.
2019-02-10 16:10

Spain Ayrr
depends on how much is your bodyweight tho. Generally speaking, yes. Strenght and endurance athletes usually chase 2x bodyweight on those type of excercises, 3x on squats and deadlifts.
2019-02-09 20:30
well if u bench 2x bw you're a god

Nah, there a lot of people that can do a variety of amazing stuff
2019-02-09 20:38
actually 2x your bodyweight on bench is top level shit, really hard to attain. Most athletes will not reach that point unless they are powerlifters or bodybuilders
2019-02-09 21:13
He doesn't know what he's talking about trust me. Never lifted in his life.. saying many people bench press double their weight is retarded. Some can do it for sure but they are heavily committed and on roids or 5+ years in the making.
2019-02-09 21:18
You don't absolutely need roids but you do really need to commit a lot to achieve it. I agree the guy makes it seem like it's normal for most athletes to bench twice their weight but it is definitely not.

im sure the greatest weightlifter to ever live lasha talakhadze doesnt even come close to a 340kg bench (which would be twice his bodyweight). same goes for all these heavy football players. it all depends on your size, body weight etc. smaller and lighter people are more efficient at moving heavy weights compared to their body weight. a 150kg bench for a 1,65cm 75kg guy absolutely manageable with a wide grip and some back arching, but a 260kg bench for a 1,90cm 130kg guy whos not on steroids very very unlikely.

Yeah, I guess you're right, but he did say strength and endurance athletes. A legit powerlifter would never have a 2x bodyweight bench press however an overall fucking fit dude who's been training for years and has good genetics would definitely get a 2x bench eventually I think it's irrelevant anyway. All these gym bros who do chest every session and think that their bench numbers are a reliable indicator of strength are a waste of time. This thread would be more interesting with maxes in strict press, deadlift and squt
2019-02-11 00:38
I did#79
2019-02-12 00:28
To underline what you stated. I totally agree that the bench press is not the best movement to measure upper body strength. I agree with you that would be the press. youtu.be/nPPGvbyMpKQ Just watch the bench in this video. Its just ridiculous. Not hating on the athlete hes sticking to the rules but just shows how ridiculous powerlifting as a whole has become. youtu.be/sz9PlvX4-Us Now watch this bench also under the same rules They both move a similar amount of weight on the bench still the guy in the second video has obviously shitton more upper body strength but isnt as flexible in his back and has way longer arms so he has like 5 times more range of motion if not even more.

Sweden günT
^shit, didn't see that. nice numbers exactly. it's understandable why they moved away from the press but the bench has become equally as ridiculous now. if powerlifting is going to be taken seriously they need to either implement stricter rules for range of motion or switch to the press, as well as those fucking crazy sumo deadlifts where they're picking the bar up 15 cm off the floor. until then strongman will still be 100x more interesting
2019-02-12 13:07
i agree with you. so cool to see actually ridiculously strong powerlifters like larry wheels move over to strong men. this might help increasing its popularity.
2019-02-12 16:01
Absolutely, thats why people measure strenght in absolute (what you can pretty much lift as your max regardless of your weight or size) or relative (what you can lift taking in account your weight or size, usually measured in % in reference to your bodyweight) A guy who weighs 120 kg who can bench 120 for one rep is obviously lifting more than a guy who weighs 55 kg who is benching 100 for one rep but the second one is stronger if we take in account his size.

I actually do some heavy shit too, I know a thing or two about the matter trust me on that. I might have paraphrased my words wrongly without putting much effort into it, what I meant is If we take in account the general population, which I assume you are by your words, then yes, there are only a few... but if we are talking about people dedicating their time to this then there are many my friend, you aint special.
2019-02-09 21:48
I never said I was special. Why would I wanna ruin my body any further ? Already ruined my right shoulder due lifting and had major surgery and still in pain 6 months later. I'm done with it. You will get serious health issues later on my friend. I can guarantee you that.

2019-02-10 15:56
"deadlifting is easier than bench press well not easier but you can lift heavier loads with your back than chest". You know why is easier? You are talking with no sense. Ofc the back is one of the main muscles so you can work pretty hard and longer. Lets see if you can understand. In one hand, in bench press you are just working your pecs primary and secondary shoulders and triceps. But in the other hand with deadlift you are working much more muscles than bench. Trapezius, low back, glutes, quads, biceps femorals, abs because you can do it contracting before starting, then hip flexors and i can continue. Multiple muscles are helping you and thats why a lot of people prefers to do deadlifting than benching.. because is better for the hole body.
2019-02-10 16:33
So basically I said deadlift is easier...And you made a reply telling me I dont know shit but also saying deadlift IS EASIER in the same reply stupid fucking ape go eat a banana and leave these civil discussions and your whole reply was pointless. No people do not prefer deadlift over bench you idiot, normal people do bench and deadlift cause you're supposed to work out your entire body.
2019-02-10 20:41
Civil? Haha your first comment shows the dumbass you are. You know shit you are just saying things with 0 knowledge. Of course the deadlift is easier BECAUSE RECRUITS MORE MUSCLES THAN BENCH PRESS. ITS A TOTALBODY you virgin bench press its not a TB. Normal people are idiots who goes to the gym like you and pays every month and the instructor there tells you to do each muscle 4 exercises 4x12 4x10. Bench press its overrated you can work better with dumbells or cables every angle. But you know nothing about this no argument no anatomic knowledge . You are pointless and you are trying to put me in you low level.
2019-02-11 17:31
So basically I said deadlift is easier. And then you respond saying I don't know shit but also saying deadlift is easier while adding details I cba to write. Like hopefully now I explained to you why you're an idiot. And you just said one of the main compound lifts is overrated. This makes you an even bigger idiot and arguing with me is so sad cause u just dig your hole deeper and deeper..
2019-02-11 17:34
"deadlifting is easier than bench press well not easier but you can lift heavier loads with your back than chest" you didnt even know if it was easier or not haha are u kidding me? "DETAILS I CBA TO WRITE" hahaha you are just a clown justifying you dont anything about this. Surely you are those type of guys who saw tutorials in youtube and think you understand and know what you are talking about but i studied you don't. Talk with arguments, with anatomic and biomecanic arguments not with copypaste things or internet knowledge.
2019-02-11 18:30
I said its not easier since both require a lot of effort but you can lift heavier loads with your back thus easier in terms of how heavy you can lift. Its all very simple English Now you're showing how much you suck at understanding English...Damn man do you have anything going for you ? :(
2019-02-11 18:48
Of course you can lift heavier loads with the back because the dorsal is one of the biggest muscle we have... tell me something new kiddo or you dont even know this? Study and then try to fool me.
2019-02-12 04:35
Yes indeed. We both said the same thing except I didn't bother going into detail since no one asked for it. This is why you're a stupid monkey and I'm a civilized European
2019-02-12 21:08
First of all you have to study in order to learn this. After all of that, you can talk. It seems like you are the monkey talking without knowledge, again with no cientific arguments on biomecanic of the body and anatomy. Im doubting seriously you live in europe i went there but never talked to monkeys like you.

I went to the gym from february to october 2018. I could probably bench 65kg or something at my best. (Didn't do normal bench the last month, only incline where I managed to do 55, and thats harder from what my friend told me) I was 72kg at my heaviest, when I started in february I was about 67kg.
2019-02-09 22:37

2019-02-10 01:59
120kgs is my best (77kg bodyweight), atm training light weight , 5 sets of 80 for 12-8 reps until I recover, 1 minute rest in between
2019-02-10 01:59
Depends on your objective but light weight doing 5 sets of almost 12 you will not see a lot of gains. Try to do some supersets giants sets or to failure at the end to start hitting more those muscles with the same light weight.
2019-02-10 16:38
i put more time into the press, squat and deadlift. never benched really heavy. i can strict press 60kg for 5 reps, squat 130kg for 5 reps and deadlift over 150kg (never tried more because im afraid of injury).

Eddie Hall is strong, but this is the worlds best bench presser and the current world record holder youtube.com/watch?v=78RqSIQ1apE
2019-02-10 13:54
eddie halls display of strength is still more impressive in my opinion. as a strongman the bench press isnt even a main movement for him still he pushes out 6 reps 265kg without back arching or supportive gear like a belt or wraps with ease.(notice he doesnt even have a spotter while reping 265kg!!!) if he wouldnt have been forced to cut down so heavily due to health issues in the past two years and would have focused more on the bench im sure he would have been able to crush kirills records. just look at eddie halls other lifts kirill doesnt even come close to that. in terms of static upper and probably also lower body strength eddie hall was the strongest man to ever live on this planet.

Crush kirill's record, no not even close. That video doesn't even show lifts that follow the rules that prescribe that the bar should be stationary on the chest and he used significant chest bumb. Look at kirill's form and realise he is the master.
2019-02-10 14:48
?? have you ever even benched yourself? eddie is obviously pausing the bar at his chest. theres no chest bump whatsoever in the video i posted. also eddies reping more weight for more reps than kirill, while not even having a spotter unlike kirill. just think about how much confidence eddie had to have in himself moving this kind of weight if he didnt have a spotter. if eddie would have trained benching as frequently as a powerlifter like kirill and not just as accessory movement from time to time like strongmen do, theres no way eddie wouldnt have crushed the 335kg bench from kirill.

Yes I have for a long time and his form is shit which might be down to him not benching often or being a powerlifter as they only care about moving weight and not form necessarily.

best 1rep max was 125kg at 85kg now 115kg at 77kg NEVER trained bench press, only 2 years of calisthenics and weighted calisthenics can dip 100kg, that's 3 times more impressive

I'm pretty sure it varies from person to person, and also depends on how long your breaks are etc. When I used to do 5x5 with 80kg, I could not do 1 rep of 100kg.

well yeah, but in general it's 75%, so my guess would be he can bench 80kg. were you resting 5+ minutes in between sets?

He might be able to, on a good day in perfect conditions. Also keep in mind some people perform better at low reps, while others have good endurance and can do more reps, instead of more weight. I was resting 2 - 3 mins.
2019-02-12 13:22
I'm 18, I lifted about 5 times a year for the last few years, only 215 for bench. I am more of a endurance guy though, pull ups, dips, muscle ups.

When I was still huge 1,5 years ago, I bench pressed max. 155kg but now I bench press max only 100kg since I lost 30kg of body weight due to illness.

117.5 kg at about 110 kg body weight so not very impressive. trying to lose weight and maintain strength.

460kg. I'm 195cm, 90kg of lean muscle, piercing blue eyes, white teeth and amazing hair. Gotta pick up my supermodel gfs soon, which is nice since I gotta get my rolex from the lambo anyway lol. But whatevz, I'm like 9/10 hltv users.

I missed 1 rep on 90.2kg so I was supposed to do 3x6 but i did 5 on last set, still pr cuz i have never hit 6 reps on that weight
2019-02-13 13:49
How much your weight is?
2019-02-13 14:22
Havent been trying for one rep in a long time. Last time I did bench press I hit 2x5 with 100kg. My morning weight is somewhere between 77-78.5kg. Im doing bench press in like every chest day. Just love it.
2019-02-13 13:51
