+1 how can people claim this is a "feature" and not a bug
2019-02-12 22:09
Well regardless the red dots appear on the map even if you don't zoom in, right? So taco's solution of banning the zoom binds doesn't do anything tbh

You see how it shows even after he unzooms, right? The problem is the smoke or the radar itself, not the zoom.

Doesn't matter. Zoom or not zoom, that shit should be banned/fixed immediately. I simply don't wanna see ez smoke kills like that. The smoke has a function! It should exactly NOT be possible to see your opponents in or through the smoke. Short-term for the major: Deactivate enemies on radar completely. Long-term: Devs has to fix it.

You can't see enemies when you're in the smoke if it's not fading. You get to see them just before the smoke fades. But yeah, I get your point. The problem is that most people here think that you get to see enemies BECAUSE zooming (that's what taco tweeted), and that's not the case.

Nah, the zoom is clearly defined here. The zoom allows you to aim more precisely. The bug is that players can see others in the smoke when it fades which shouldn't be the case. TACO made a suggestion (which was weird), that the bind shouldn't be allowed. This would mean that players who don't have their radar zoomed in that much can't aim that precisely. But you can play with a zoomed in radar the entire game. The best solution is to completely turn off that the enemies are being shown on the radar. Just get rid of this and it's fixed.

Nah, TACO clearly said that it's the bind what makes it possible to see a player just before the smokes fades, you can go look it up. That's what's causing the conmotion. But I agree with everything else you said.

LOOOL ... 0 argument. Seeing enemies through/in the smoke even though this should NOT be the case is not an argument? xD You are the 2IQ here. ^^
2019-02-12 22:25
Nobody disagrees that you shouldn't see enemies before a smoke disappears, it's just this was known for a long time, yet only a day before a major dude is demanding nonsensical things.
2019-02-12 22:42
yeah.... i could be wrong in that people have brought this up before, but i find it hard to believe that they'll fix this today. i can't remember, did they fix the BiG bug during the major? or was it just a gentlemen's agreement not to use it?
2019-02-12 22:48
I think it was an agreement, but in this case it would be impossible to enforce something as not looking at the radar at particular points in time.
2019-02-12 22:52
yea definitely, there's no way they could enforce that i was more referring to the logistics of making the change within such a short period of time. i wasn't sure if the devs have done something like this before or not
2019-02-12 22:53
I'm confident if Gabe's life was at stake they could fix this within an hour :D, but this is just my assumption. However fixing a bug has a potential to introduce other bugs, so to be safe they probably don't want to do anything unless it's absolutely necessary, which in this case its probably not since it was known for a long time and people complained once in a while, but not like today...
2019-02-12 22:57
i agree that other bugs COULD occur from fixing something like this so quickly, but i don't think that's a viable excuse. this game has been around since 2012 (and CS as a whole has been around since 1999). you can't confidently tell me that these devs couldn't fix something like this without a fear of other problems happening
2019-02-12 23:00
In general never really understood why you can see an enemy on your radar to begin with, you couldn't in 1.6 - should be the same in GO.
2019-02-12 23:06
i actually really like that feature. i'd like to think, from a somewhat realism factor, that a team member would communicate to everyone if they see an enemy. the radar simply does that for everyone without the need for communication a good example is if you plant the bomb and there are 2 CTs left. your team is spread out waiting for those CTs to come defuse the bomb. everyone is looking around for them and all of a sudden you see a red blip by one of your tmmts. even if they don't have a mic, you can still see for yourself that one of your tmmts has spotted someone and you can react accordingly the smoke thing is completely different tho.... i think it's wrong that the radar blips BEFORE you can physically see the person on your screen. that should never happen
2019-02-12 23:13
It was a gentleman’s agreement. This is the same thing. A bug being clearly exploited as Astralis have been doing for a long time now. I find it really sad that pro teams are relying on glitches every now and then when it’s clear on the rulebook of these competitions that you shouldn’t.
2019-02-12 22:56
agreed.... i feel like the game is tarnished bc of stuff like this. i don't necessarily think it's unfair simply bc the exploit is known throughout the community, but it still doesn't make it right at all
2019-02-12 22:58
How do you enforce people to not look at the radar at particular points in time? This whole discussion sounds silly. I agree it shouldn't be ingame, but it's not Astralis fault AT ALL for using what's available within a game, known and used by many.
2019-02-12 23:03
But the glitch happens when you actively swap the radar config back and forth, so you can prevent it. Also, it’s in the rulebook. “All other configuration changes are allowed as long as they do not give an unfair advantage to a Team.” so, if radar at zoom 0.4 gives an unfair advantage, use 0.45 instead.
2019-02-12 23:16
I thought it happens regardless of zoom, it's just that zoom makes it easier to lineup your shots. Honestly Valve should hotfix this, because if Astralis wins, some people will write it off due this issue and would be interesting to see how they fare without it (probably wouldn't impact them all that much).

people are talking about enemies appearance on radar but their names also appear under your crosshair by the command hud_showtargetid 1. why are not pros talking about this? is this command banned in tournaments?
2019-02-12 22:44
i don't necessarily think this is considered an unfair advantage simply because it's a known anomaly throughout the community. it doesn't break any rules either, at least as far as i know but at the same time.... smokes are in the game for a specific reason. the fact that your radar pings an enemy location, before you can actually see them, sorta defies the point. fixing this seems like a no-brainer, especially when you consider that lots of money and prestige is on the line
2019-02-12 22:52
JW and Astralis has 0 Prestige Nowdays
2019-02-12 22:53
well... JW is a 3-time major winner and Astralis is a 2-time major winner. i'd say both have quite a bit of prestige already either way there's a lot on the line with these tournaments. the fact that a smoke "bug" (or whatever you wanna call it) is still inside the game is pretty shitty. there are a lot of teams battling for prestige, and cash, and i feel like the game is sorta tarnished with this smoke thing. all it takes is 1 bug smoke kill in 1 particular round and the whole game can drastically change

Oh same could be said about the jump bug, but everyone was crying so much because big was using it... Cs pros are such pathetic cunts
2019-02-12 23:01
yea for sure. at least the players got together during the major and formed some sort of gentlemen's agreement not to use it. the difference, though, is that the viewers and the community can clearly see when a player is trying to use the jump bug. that's not the case with this smoke/radar thing... the only people who could really see that happening is the person using it, their team (maybe), and the admin people behind the players. unless they amend the rule book, or if the devs fix this somehow, there's no way you could really enforce not using it
2019-02-12 23:04
It can be used on tournaments if all participants know about this trick. Like olofpass man, if ldlc know about pixel boost fnatic cant won overpass
