Nothing in basic school, a bit in High School, i bit in College. Some about Rain Forest, Amason River and native peoples in Nature Class - not much Some about Coffee and Slavery in History. In newer history about the growing economy and Brazil being a BRICK-country - not much Some about Favellas, poverty and corruption in Social Studies - at the time of Brazil hosting big sports events. Saw the film Tropa de Elite. Mostly the bad things really The News are about the same bad things: Destroying Rain Forest, Favellas, Corruption ... and most recently about the new populist, sexist Trump-wannabe President. But not a lot, considering the size and population. Education here is very Eurocentric + a bit about USA, China, South Africa, Middle East and Japan

2019-02-16 13:35
about the favelas in english class
2019-02-16 13:37
What does favela have to do with English classes?
2019-02-19 17:45
were practicing oral skills and the topic was kinda like 'how could the richer ppl/countries help countries/ppl in need'. there was a picture of a favela and some african villages beside those some points about the shitty circumstances in each... btw once we had an exchange student kinda thing where a brazilian uni student came to our school and taught english for like a month and a half and she talked about brazil a lot

2019-02-19 17:43
Do you remember what they taught you about the favelas?
2019-02-19 17:46
yeah, why?
2019-02-19 17:46
I'm curious. What did they teach you?
2019-02-19 17:47
well, how the life is in the slums in general and we watched a documentary about favelas I cant say anything good but that is expected I guess
2019-02-19 17:50
Maybe, I just asked because I wanted to know if that suited reality. Many people are happy in the favela, and even some rich people choose to live by them But in general there are many problems with poverty and violence
2019-02-19 17:51
yes exactly that, there is poverty and violence but people are still happy in general and try to live their lives, its not that they are bad people

history classes? No.I have learned all by myself about Brazil.Like TV at first then internet.I know for example that you have people from Japan-refugees from ww2,also italians and germans.I know you have a lot of regions-some of them want autonomy like the southern states.Portugal colonized Brazil-also brought lots of slaves from Africa to Brazil.Your capital has form of bird or plane/not sure/.You had a flag close to the USA flag but then you have replaced it with the planet.Lots of coffee plantations. Now you have gripen jetfighters.Dilma Rusev was your president-she is half Bulgarian. The beaches, dance fests, beautiful women, favela ghetos, lots of crime rate-foreigners kidnaped, robbed, one of the worst traffic jams in the world in your capital.Lots of brazil football players Pele,Ronaldo,Ronaldinho,Rivaldo etc.I have learned one Brasil saying that you joke like its an inner brazilian joke-you say"Brazil will be rich when statue of Jesus Christ start clapping" :D.Also i know that Brazil internet is very slow and very expensive at the same time :/
2019-02-19 18:06
Internet is ok, but to have a good one is kinda expensive. edit: my internet is good and i pay like $40 monthly. It may not look like expensive but for the average salary in BR its a lot.
