No chance for karate, kung fu, muay thai. That's the reason why many MMA fighters train Brazilian jiu jitsu

brazilian jiu-jitsu masters getting rekt by Sakuraba: He killed more gracies aswell btw. The gracies are a lying piece of meat. They lack all kinds of honor, while pretending to be masters of MMA. You know what Helio Gracie (the godfather of bjj) said after Sakuraba fucked up his posterboy Royce gracie? He called Sakuraba "the chinese version of a gracie". Imagine having such a inflated ego, that you basically insult the guy that just won against your best fighter. Sakuraba alone has more honor, than the whole gracie family combined.
2019-02-16 17:28
There is always an asian better than you.
2019-02-16 17:36
:D Sakuraba is a legend btw. The Gracies where really good fighters, bit their ego was infalted way too hard. They always acted like BJJ is the best shit ever, mostly neglecting its heritage in japanese fighting. And then Sakuraba showed up, one by one winning against many gracies, hence the nickname "graciekiller" :D
2019-02-16 17:39
Too bad Sakuraba got his ass beat by Wanderley Silva 3 times. And wanderley sux If wasn't for that he still would be my favorite Pride mma fighter ever Btw sakuraba is very respected here in Brazil and have a lot of fans due to what he did to the Gracies
2019-02-16 17:44
Wanderlei doesnt suck In my opinion. Wanderlei silve also got a draw against a prime Crocop. But yeah, he had alot of losses, mainly because he was constantly fighting against oponents heavier than him. Most of his fights wouldnt even hapen nowadays because of weightrestrictions. Sakuraba has a great hardand watching him fight was always amazing.
2019-02-16 17:45
Yes, It was a joy to watch sakuraba!! Too bad ppl get old :((
2019-02-16 17:47
But there is always new fighters coming in to enjoy for us! :) A while back I really enjoyed wathcng all of Shinya Aokis fights That dude wraps around his opponents like a christmas present XD Also, never forget this submission by Sakuraba: BALLS

You are right, he did loose to CC, but they also had another fight that ended in a draw. Anyways, all I wanted to point out is that I dont think we can say Wanderlei "sucks" as in he was a bad fighter.

MMA > bjj, but i agree it's superior to basicly every other, some killing martial arts with eye poling and balls smashing could be better tho.
2019-02-16 17:35
BJJ is part of MMA, whats your point?
2019-02-16 17:37
Switzerland Tang1
MMA isn't a style in particular, looks at the actual fighters some have fuckin wushu in it ;'D. If you put an MMA dude vs bjj dude, the mma guy is gonna win most of the time if he's okay in bjj enough to nullify attacks at least. sambo could also make a case for the best MA, khabib style looks really tough to stop, eve tho we never saw him against bjj pro.
2019-02-16 17:43
Thats the point, MMA isnt a style by itself. Its MIXED martial arts. So reagrding that: MMA MMA > any martial art, because it allows you to utilize everything, within the rules, why a single pure martial art, will always be limited. Thats why I asked what you point is, its expected. ANd yeah, Im really looking forward to watch Khabib fight again and dude, I think you heard that name already, but check out Zabit Magomedsharipov. He is NUTS :O

MMA is a style by itself, that's the point, that's why you have mma gyms, in itself its an amalgame of styles but it's its own sport and discipline atm. idk how i could phrase it. You see how the color of lights works ? Whitte is all the colors reunited, but it's still a color by itself. Zabit is way too good for his own good he gets dodged by everybody lmfao ;DDD. Khabib style is so annoying i don't see him loose to anybody atm, ferguson is insanely good but when khabib is laying on u ur fucked. hyped for velasquez vs ngannou in 3 days tho ^^
2019-02-16 17:53
"but it's its own sport and discipline atm" yes "MMA is a style by itself" no These are fruits: Apple, banana, orange Putting those 3 in a mixer wont give you another fruit, its a a mix of the fruits you used.
2019-02-16 17:57
Switzerland Tang1
Arguably yes, look at ferguson, he is doing mma with 3% of every style and add his own freestyle flow, that's MMA, that is a style, i struggle to explain but MMA by definition isn't a style but an amalgamy, but the MMA fighter uses, is a style and a martial art because of the personalized aspect of it. I mean see what fighters thingk about it in interviews this shit doesn't come from me, apart my weird explanations ^^. it give you a unique smoothie that has the flavor of no other fruit, it has a fruity flavor to it, because would describe it as fruity, enough for me if mma is called a martial arts by the commmision and the broad term in general.
2019-02-16 18:02
No, that is Tony fergusons style, not MMA. You get the terms confused. I know what you want to say and where you get it from, but I disagree (which is fine, we dont have to agree). And I dont think arguing about it will change much, but if you are interested in different arguements regarding that: Thats a whole discussion with many arguements :) I personally see MMA as a mix of different styles and if people like Tony Ferguson manage to make it look like a style by itself, then this just means Ferguson found the perfect styles for his fighting and you cant just teach that kind of "style". Anyways, in the end its about enjoying the fight, no matter what sport you enjoy (I personally for example enjoyed traditional muay thai fights alot).
2019-02-16 18:08
Switzerland Tang1
His style is MMA, because " tony fergusson style" is freestyle and it's a componant of his mma. Let's agree with not agreeing with each other hahaha. Tony is just naturally born for fighting imo ^^, im personally into mma, boxing and burmese boxing ( muay thai with headbutts eksdi ).

2019-02-16 17:46
depends on why you're actually training, if for self defence i would pick boxing/kick boxing anyday of the week.
2019-02-16 17:51
Self defense=trying to run away asap, boxing and kickboxing encourage fighting and suck as self SD. As I already said SD is not about being a better fighter than your attacker, its about getting away without a fight in an ideal scenario. Also, if you wanna beat a guy that knows how to punch, taking him down and submitting him is alot more effective, as almost no streetfighter knows how to deend against grappling.
2019-02-16 17:54
The reason I like those is that in case you strike first it's almost a guaranteed win, also they help you keep the distance. I don't like bjj or others like wrestling because you have to take it to the ground, in that case you don't know who else might get involved in the fight and can't get away easily.
2019-02-16 17:57
Against a good streetfighter, yoz wont just KO him easily. Taking it to the ground is way more effective and I already pointed out the reason: Streetfighters are in 99% of cases strikers and arent too bad with that aswell. You dont want to outstrike somewhat like that. But they cant defend a takedown at all usually. And if there is more than 1 guy, you should run anyways. It doesnt matter if 3 guys attack you from 3 sides and throw you down to the ground to beat the living crap out of you or if you are already on the ground. Reality is not a movie, youdont fight 3v1 unless you are trained very very well and the attackers cant fight at all.
2019-02-16 18:02
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is indeed the best martial art if you face somebody who does not train multiple martial arts. That's why the Gracies were so strong in early UFC. Now, pretty much everybody train at least basic defense on every style, so Jiu-Jitsu isn't enough by itself, since with a decent Wrestling Defence, BJJ can't do anything by itself. In the past 6-7 years, the only top fighters with a BJJ base were Maia and Werdum. That's not much.

if you are 1v1 in a ring with a restrictive rule set, then yes BJJ is great... otherwise not so much

the most bullshit I ever read, jiu jitsu only works in a 1v1 and the guy must not know how to defend. I fight muay thai and learned the basics of how to defend against ppl trying to pull me down, so, I can easily destroy any jiu-jitsu fighter if he isn't a good boxer. Furthermore, Muay Thai is awesome to any street fights, since u can have more than 1 enemy.
