We have a lot of Surinamese people, and their cuisine is also very popular here. So we are very aware of their existence.

That's actually kinda interesting, why did you keep Aruba and St. Martin when Suriname got independence tho?

Why would you not want independence? Without reliable source I'm not eager to believe

They have sovereignty, so they have their own laws and shit, but they never claimed complete independence because by being a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands they still get money from us. So basically, they get best of both worlds by not gaining full independence.

That seems more believable, but I would still like to see a reliable source.

I don't know what to tell you either. If you read this (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_Aruban_indepe..) you will see that the people did want independence, and we acknowledged that we would give them independence. But then the country withdrew from independence. Why? Your best guess is as good as mine. The only reason I can think of is money.

I don't know about you but I actually learned geography and history at school

history we mostly learn about brazil/portugal as you learn mostly about netherlands and your colonies (i guess), did learn about suriname in geography as i know they speak dutch and everything, we just dont remember that country exists I mean dude, why would you give a fuck about a country that is 9000km away in south america
2019-02-23 18:07
it became very popular in the 70's so they have a factory in the netherlands aswell. You can buy it in every supermarket tho.
