Looking to buy my first car, however insurance will be very expensive because I'm 18 and just passed my test. Any good cars for starters? Please don't suggest cars that look like those that come out the cereal box. I was thinking of getting a 1.2 volkswagen golf. Any other suggestions?

protip: insure the car under your parents policy ez money and next protip: don't waste money on a car when you don't earn a lot of money. get something cheap and save the money

Badtip: if you get in a accident which was your fault your parents will get fucked over if it is in their policy
2019-02-24 01:01
Depends on your countries laws. In many countries its completely legal. And the policy can be moved on from parents to their children later on.
2019-02-24 01:07
Here in Germany you pay insurance based on who owns the car and all registered drivers. However, the main amount of insurance charge is based on the owner, so if you register the car as your parents car, you will save easy money on that one. The additional sum that has to be payed for you being a registered driver is way less than the sum you would pay if you were the owner of that car.
2019-02-28 00:17
'insure the car under your parents policy' if you do this and you would get in a car accident, don't tell the police or any other 3rd party that it's your car.
2019-02-24 01:04
If you are from the UK they put this thing in your car which is a blackbox and it can track how fast you are going and stuff and the insurance will ring you if you get into a accident stupid as fuck but without it you have to pay triple the price of insurance

Well, the only way I can get insured in my parents name is being the second driver on a car. Meaning I will have to share with my mom cuz my dads car is too powerfull. That is impossible since my mom works 12 hours a day and she always needs her car...

Alfa Romeo 147 or 159, 147 if you want a hatchback with great handling. You can opt for the GTA with the 3.2 Busso V6 which just sounds fantastic. 159 is more practical as you can get it as a sedan or a wagon. You can get it with front or 4 wheel drive as well.

Why are you laughing? Sure they have their faults but you want a car with personality. You can't consider yourself a car-person before you've had an Alfa.
2019-02-24 17:09
You joking right? Twinsparks are like the cancer of the automotive industry! The only good thing they had on dat era was the freaking FIAT diesel units!

That's why I suggest the Busso V6. Also if I wanted cancer I'd have suggested a French car. You probably think the Peugeot 1007 is a great car.
2019-02-24 17:14
Oh man, the Busso is the same thing! Its unreliable AF... Why do you think dat Alfa had to be rescued two times from bankrupcy? One of the best brands when it comes to looks (cant deny dat from them) cant sell cars because of the horrid reputation they made for them selfs with the hole Twinspark bullshit they made!

Our 147 GTA has never failed to start in the 13 years we've had it. It has only had oil changes and the check engine has NEVER lit, not even just to remind us that it works which is something the GTV6 would do.
2019-02-24 17:22
Good for you mate, and i wish you the best of luck for you and your car! But saying dat they are reliable is just not true at all. Dont get me wrong, i love the looks but i wouldnt advice anyone one buying them, atleast the older models... The new ones with FIAT engines are changing dat reputation for sure, the new Giulia is a reliable car.

In the UK, insurance for drivers that just passed their driving test is VERY EXPENSIVE. The older u get, the less the insurance will cost. (if you don't have many crashes ofc.)

Insurances like when you pick a small and not powerful car, so i'd say get a peugeot 206 or anything that's in the same category, like a mark 4 golf. however do not pick an opel corsa in this price range because they are not in the same league ( insert complicated car stuff here ) .

Nah my mom wants me to get my own car. She uses her car to go to work, and she literally works from 7 in the morning till 7 in the night. If I do my insurance on her name, I cannot have my own car ( I can only drive her car). Im technically classified as a second driver on my moms car. Sorry if im not making sense, its complicated.

yeah i got u, so if u dont want to go higher than 1.4 engines, id search for any VW Golf, hyundai i30, Audi a3 8p got a strong 1.4 tfsi engine, ford fiesta 1.0 ecoboost. id recommend going for that audi, looks dope, tuning potential, reliable engine and overall good quality.
