it is the least of all that can happen to you: youtube.com/watch?v=Zl_1rQ4JR6c youtube.com/watch?v=c0ztLtpuwkM they especially target foreigners because locals already take the required measures.

I do not recommend going, the favelas are places commanded by traffickers.

Man, I live in a small city(300k), in Brasil, and doesnt have any favela, but I know the reality, You have to know that, most part of the people who lives in favelas work, study... and arent bad people or criminals, but there are a lot of gangs that are there. So, like, they corrupt poor people that dont have money, but is not like: "oh, im gonna die if i get to a favela" no. You cab search more about it and see why the favelas exist, youll se that is becouse of when the people started to work on city industries and got out of the farms, the rich people didnt want the people who worked on factories, living on the city center. Favela is most like an suburban neighborhood of any other country

you just have to respect their laws, favelas works like another country
2019-03-03 13:45
It depends on the place where you walk by: the places for tourists such like Copacabana, Ipanema, Flamengo, Barra da Tijuca and others are not so dangerous (i´m talking about the risk of beeing killed, because thieves are everywhere, i mean, if you´re a foreigner here you should not expose cell phones all the time, or use things such like gold collars or expensive watches on open places), but it´s not so dangerous like ppl say. I live in Rio de Janeiro and there are lotsa foreigners here on the Carnival.

There are pacified (by police) favelas and dangerous favelas with trafic and shit. Santa Marta, Rocinha and Vidigal are good for turism. Half-BR from Rio here.

Acctualy, not only the south east. The south itself in Brazil is safer, I live in Santa Catarina a state in Brazil with the highest HDI. That´s because here things work, we had a european colonization, not slave as the reast of the country you know? People used to come here to live and raise cities and a prosper life.
2019-03-03 15:05
1 - Portugal is in Europe. So all country is Europe collonized. 2 - South is safer than south-east (At Least Parana and Santa Catarina) (Rio Grande do Sul's capital is really violent - I lived there and almost got my house robbed, lucky me I was at home-, but idk if its more violent than Rio, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte). 3 - South is heavily colonized by Germans (Best workers in the world). 4 - The southern lands have coolest climate. 5 - The slaves in the northern area of Brazil were thrown to s**t after slavery was abolished. No land + no money + no jobs + no education (most slaves were forbidden to read) = higher levels of violence.
2019-03-03 23:44
combine all that historic stuff with corrupt governments F-ing the poor of the country over and over and you get the right recipe for disaster.

depends on the city, they usually target foreigns (they think foreigns have money), but if u are thinking on go to brazil, don't go to Rio De Janeiro neither Sao Paulo
2019-03-03 20:09
Do not visit the favelas unless you're feeling suicidal. Favelas are no joke. Don't listen to those ones saying it's okay to be there "as long as you don't do anything stupid". That's BS. Those freaks may shoot you on the spot if you smirk at them.
