I can always respect people that know a lot of languages but I have a question, do you ever get them confused with each other? (native language aside)
2019-03-14 16:01
nope , as these languages are not similar to each other , therefore never had a situation in my life where i get confused and used a german word speaking english for example.

Interesting. I’ve always wondered if this was ever an issue, but I guess with such different language it would be tough. Perhaps languages like Spanish and French would have that happen.
2019-03-14 16:05
Dunno , ask people from Brasil ,as theyre mixing spanish and portuguese ,their knowledge is slighty higher than mine , in this particular matter :) .
2019-03-14 16:09
nop bro, spanish and portuguese are different as fvck
2019-03-14 16:11
my spanish is A1 at best and sometimes i understand short portuguese sentences in context it's only about reading tho, i can't understand shit when portugalians or brazilians talk

I'ts just because de latin's roots. The "relationship" between portuguese and spanish languages, could be better, if it was not a lot of false cognates. I will take the word "Fecha", for example. In portuguese, its mean "close" (you can use in 'close this door, please'), but in spanish, the word means "date" (you can use in 'the date of meeting is...'). There's a lot of words like that, and this is confuse, because I grew up learning what one word meant, but now, that same word is another thing. for me, the english (that i'm still learning), was more easy than spanish...
2019-03-14 22:04
+1 English is easier than everything
2019-03-14 22:39
Maybe in some cases where the words almost look identical. But mostly no.

In some cases, some Swedish words can get mixed up with German words (as I know both languages) and the other way around, but usually no. Also the better you come to know a language, the less you mix up words with other ones. So it's really just about how well you know the languages you speak.

afaik, polyglots usually have strong associations with a language, so each one is viewed through a different "lens" But I have moments when English words come to my mind first when describing something to a Russian interlocutor
2019-03-14 20:26
wtf when I visited Poland nobody speaks neither english or russian.
2019-03-14 19:44
Are you trying to tell me that after that visit , ur conclusion was that no1 speak russian or english in entire country, only because YOU havent meet any1 ? If so , then......then it's a waste of my time to even respond , have a good night :).
2019-03-14 20:00
good night, mate Btw I was trying to say that in Poland relatively small number of people can speak English. Just for example in Germany/Austria or Czech I had no problems in the cafes or gas stations, always at least one person can speak english. Anyway I realize that I could be just unlucky and all of this is just my personal experience.

is brasilian portuguese diffrent compared to "normal" portuguese?
2019-03-14 16:06
a little bit, some accents, pronounce and a few words. just to know, the mozambique portuguese is more similar with brazilian portuguese than portuguese from Portugal.
2019-03-14 16:10
Hell no. Theres an angolan in my class. We cant understand him bc his portuguese is from portugal plus some slangs Pt-br is a different language than the rest, thats why we refer pt-br and dont have pt-mz or pt-ang

English is THE international language, and we are taught that straight out the vagina, which is why schools don't emphasize that heavily on teaching a second language. You only need 2 or 3 years (depending on state or county) foreign language, that being of mainly Spanish or French.

lol unluko for at least poland then, we have to learn overall 3 languages at 1 time polish (grammar, structure and stuff) english (since we are like in primary school) and 3rd is often russian/german, in bigger cities also available spanish/french (you choose one)

I can understand why with that many surrounding countries and cultures. In America, Mexico and South Western USA is where Spanish is a bit more prevalent, but not by a lot. As for French, Eastern Canada is the only place I can think of where it useful in NA. Even if we travel to Europe, many know English or have a basic understanding at least.

just 3 years? In Russia we have to study foreign language for 7 years in order to graduate high school. But still, I wouldn't say that got much knowledge from there, videogames/films help better.

Idk how is it now, i dont have any update! maybe less missions comparing like 5 years ago, but still, military service is tough and not for everybody! I was 18 when i joined legion, help my mom and sister with money. actually is the best thing what happend to me, the best experience in my life! i was in different places! I was with people from all the world in all kind of situations so i saw how people really reacts in stress! Was fun ))

we can, but only basic ones and when these are pronounced slowly. we can't understand shit when the topic is more complicated than just a basic conversation. so, truth is somewhere in the middle. we can watch some dumb ukrainian tv shows or memes, but most of russians exaggerate their ability to understand ukrainian.

There isn't a single world in which you know chinese, russian, french, basque, spanish, italian and english at the same time, come on haha. And how on earth would you like me to test you if I can't even verify if what you're telling me is true and you have a computer and internet at your disposal? And how old are you btw?

i knew english italian spanish and basque from from a very young age ,and yes im aware that someone speaking those many languages natively is strange but ive personally got 3 friends that actually know 3 languages natively too(coz i live in the centre of london and that area is very diverse) I already explained how I know french and ive been studying Russian for 9 months and Chinese for six (it is not the case that I only know a few words)

So you're telling me that you speak those 3 native languages fluently? and you didn't answer my question, how old are you? Cause that could give me a more objective opinion about this.

That, to me, is proving that you don't know all these languages. At least fluently. You can't tell me that you speak all of these languages on a day to day basis and that you're learning Russian and Chinese, both very difficult languages, especially chinese. If all of this is true, you litteraly have no free time...

Really beautiful language. Sanskrit- I can read and understand most part of it but my grammar is a bit weak and vocabulary too so can't speak or write. Sanskrit is too close to Hindi though.
