Kind of late but I only just saw the movie, and I wanted to write this after seeing all the people bashing the movie because of Brie Larson.
Brie Larson might be a bit of an extreme feminist but the film wasn't.
A lot of the movie was her trying to find her place, and to fight back against the people pushing her down, but they weren't making it into a whole woman-oppression thing, it was simply an origin story, where she gained a sense of who she was after years of being manipulated. I wouldn't have even minded if there was a level of feminism, because considering the time the movie was set in, contextually it would've been appropriate, since there WAS sexism around the 80s (although not in Kree civilization, I guess). I thought it was pulled off really well. And ignoring the political side of things, I thought it was a great plot, good twist on who the villains really were which tbh I was not expecting, at all. and it was refreshing to see this kind of origin story after all the cross-character large-scale movies that have been out recently. Even Spider-Man had more combat than this. It really was less big battles focused, and quite emotionally driven, which I thought was pleasantly surprising considering this is the introduction of the most powerful hero in the MCU. Although there are obviously some good fight scenes. Not the best Marvel movie but I'd rank it fairly highly. Solid 8/10.
I didn't spoil any of the plot at all.
Obviously I very, very vaguely referenced things so that people who have actually seen the movie understand what I'm talking about but nothing was specific.
