Death Penalty
 |
China FazeIsNoob
Many people are against death penalty, but I think death penalty makes more sense than life imprisonment. Imagine a person kills all your family, rape your mom and sister, stab your nan and dad. And he stays in a three star hotel (prison in Norway), for a whole life with tax-payer money. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Imo people like breivik and the new zealander should be dead. So mass murders should die. Maybe not even for one murder but for multiple

In China, most of the people agree to execute: - Serial Killer - Drug dealer - Rape and murderer - Terrorist - Child molester - Child trafficker
2019-04-18 09:07
that's cool but maybe china should work on ensuring fair trials before thinking about death penalty?
2019-04-18 09:53
LUL how do you know they didn't ensure fair trials? It's not 1970s anymore
2019-04-18 15:23
I do think in certain cases it would be for the best. As cruel as it sounds, why should we waste space and resources on someone who frankly is a terrible human being? It's also safer that way, as it won't be possible for them to ever escape. I do think it should only be done with the worst criminals though.

Death penalty is hardly punishment for mosts murderers, especially mass murderers and terrorists. Psycho serial killars probably deserve death penalty the most, but better lock them up in isolation and study them. Governments do not need to kill people as form punishment.
2019-04-18 09:57
i don't think a death penalty accomplishes much as a crime deterrent unless it's a country's punishment for any crime more severe than shoplifting. realistically having a death penalty available as a punishment for the worst criminals only has two benefits that I can think of: A) as the death penalty is a contentious topic, politicians can identify where their constituents stand on the death penalty during one election cycle and align themselves with whichever position is held by the majority of constituents that feel strongly about it. B) the death penalty can be used as a bargaining tool. if i remember correctly, a local serial killer gave up the locations of where he dumped the bodies of his victims in order to avoid the death penalty.
2019-04-18 10:25
Prisons suck in France, so 30 years of prison, and knowing you don't have anything to do but to wait for death here is worst than death imo

Free food, comfortable bed, a PS4 (With "unlimited" games) and a private gym. That's what killing dozens of people awards you, not a "small cell"

People like Breivik should be able to be sentenced to death, yes. But it's never going to happen, If we let ISIS-members who betrayed not only their country but their people go free, then death penalties are never going to be implemented.

Facts about death penalty. 55 countries allow it, but 34 of these haven´t used it in many years. Only European country to carry out a death penalty recently is Belarus (2010). Many countries have special wartime laws, or make them during/after a war. Denmark forbade death penalty in 1930, but after WW2 46 danes were executed for murder and treason by special law. Many more (informants and profiteers) were executed by the resistance during the war. Same thing with most occupied countries. 5 countries executed more than 1000 in 2017: China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Pakistan … not a nice bunch to be compared to. USA only executed 23 that year. Things that can lead to death penalty: Murder, treason (sometimes very vaguely defined), drugs, corruption, homosexuality, witchcraft, saying bad things about the leader, theft, leaving your religion (Islam), infidelity, violence against your parents (Sources: Danish homepage “Ethics.dk” and Amnesty International.) I think the biggest problem with death penalty is, that it´s a slippery slope. Who should be killed? You start with mass murderers like Breivik, that’s easy. But where do you make the cut? The second biggest problem is when courts are not independent, but are an extension of government. Suddenly political opponents are accused of corruption for millions. You see that all over Asia + Ucraine and Brazil. Third problem is racial/sexual/ethnical bias in courts. Fourth is public pressure, lynchmob mentality. Such a mob can be arranged against political opponents. Finally: Death is final. Later DNA-tests has revealed, that some executed were innocents.
2019-04-18 12:20
i dunno how death penalty is a punishment nowadays compared to lifelong prison sentence ...

Because what really happens is - What a perpetrator will think before committing something - 1. 20 years in prison and maybe get out by probation (how lifelong prison usually works) - 2. Death penalty Also most of those criminals committed serious crime are poor people. They will have a way more better environment in prison than out of the prison. (Developed countries) They will also get health care and fresh food also, which they might don’t have outside. Even China, and I’m serious. In China, today we have more and more prison with clean and nice living environment.
2019-04-18 19:55

Letting him root in prison will also prevent him from doing stuff.
2019-04-18 18:24
Exactly. It means no one will have to kill the criminal, so less killers and secondly it means that if the wrong person is convicted of a crime that person can be set free as opposed to having to re-animate the person which, as we all know, is not pretty. Besides, for those wanting revenge - which punishment is the worst death or life in imprisonment. Seems to me the later is actually the harshest.

Norway/Sweden/Denmark has low crime rate because they have a good education system, good economy, social welfare, and small population. Not because they don’t have death penalty.

I’m pretty sure those prisons don’t work in US... So it depends. And also Eastern Asia has very low crime rate considering our population(idk about North Korea), all countries in Eastern Asian including China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, we all have death penalty. I can also put Singapore, one of the safest country in the world in it.

The main problem with death penalty is the justice system, which is not perfect. When someone is jailed, there is a high chance he did it, but there are people in jail who are innocent. Would you kill innocent people for something they didn't do it? Thats something to think about.

2019-04-18 18:19
Rapists and pedophiles should not get the death penalty. Killers should get the death penalty as simple as that. (If u want to know why rapists and pedophiles shouldn't get it, ask and ill answer.)
2019-04-18 18:26
So it is okay for society to kill? And what if society gets it wrong and kill someone innocent? Not to mention what it likely does to the executioner that carries out the death sentences. I get that the death penalty works as revenge for the ones that have been wronged (or their next of kin), but for a society to kill people that is not a good thing. For starters having the death penalty as the ultimate punishment does not work as a deterrent, for that life in prison works just as well or likely even better. And once a criminal knows what is coming if caught then they likely become even more prone to using force. Then as for the 3 star prisons in Norway and elsewhere, they are still prisons only humane ones meaning there is a much higher chance than if a prisoner is released he will not go on to committing new crimes. This is much cheaper for society than having prisons that de-humanize inmates and turn them into harden criminals.

That is much cheaper for society to execute radical criminals than build more 3-star hotel prison and use tax money to feed them for years.
2019-04-18 19:46
If money is all that matters, then why not go all the way - I tell you why, not even the Nazi was that evil. Human life is not for anyone to take, not for criminals and not for society and doing so doesn't make for better societies just look at the countries where they use the death sentence and compare with those more humane. And then there is risk of having someone put to death that was innocent. If that happens then what, will you then have those responsible put to death? dancingbrick.files.wordpress.com/2015/03..

Wait wait...I’m not saying we are gonna execute every criminal. That would be so radical. I’m saying executing certain groups of radical criminals(with solid evidence), who are completely a virus to any healthy society, is better than putting them in jail. Why do we have to be humane to inhumane monsters? Would you be humane to Brevilk if your family was dead causing by him? And also I don’t think countries have low crime rate has anything to do with death penalty. It is because of the economy, the education and the welfare. China(including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Japan, Korea and Singapore all have low crime rate. They all have death penalty.
2019-04-18 20:21
We have to humane even to those that are clearly inhumane because we do not want to sink to their level. Two wrongs doesn't make a right. I wasn't saying that having the death penalty does anything on its own for the crime rate as things aren't so simple, just as your examples shows. My point on that is merely that having capital punishment is no guarantee for low crime, since it doesn't work as a deterrence and really neither does prisons in general since criminals do not really factor in being caught - they all think that they won't get caught else they would not do the crimes.
2019-04-18 22:33
Do you know how much money country spend on people that are in Jail? Millions if not billions a year. why waste all that money when you can just kill people that killed someone?
2019-04-18 20:04
Because it is the humane thing to do and because sometimes an innocent man is convicted of a crime he did not do.
2019-04-18 20:15
Dude if i get put to jail for life even if i was innocent. Id rather die than live whole life in jail.
2019-04-18 20:24
Agree, but lets say after you're executed that you were innocent. This would mean that society is guilty of murder, that would something really bad. You can release people from prison, but you can not bring them back after you're executed them. The thing with the death penalty is that it is final - this likely also why in the US they tend to keep people with the death penalty around for decades instead of carrying out their sentence - how is that for cruel and unusual punishment.
