Why aren't 6 man rosters a thing?

6 man rosters could potentially fix teams that could get into form Teams like north NiP and maybe even FaZe can benefit from this idea

Because no one wants to be a bench warmer Also how would it go regarding matches? It's not like you're allowed to change players based on maps. In major you're allowed 1 coach change anyway so you can't do that.

being the 6th man doesnt mean bench warmer

i wish you could switch people out on a map, that would be a cool idea i think edit: i get that most tourney organizers dont allow that but I would be down for a rule change, it might spice up the competitive scene a bit

1. It would be harder to practise. 2. Most tournament organisers only allow 5 players + 1 coach.

1. "practise" anyways there could be different schedules with team wanting to scrim, anyways getting a 6 man can fix some gaps in other teams and could help switch out players who are burnt out 2. Thats the problem, whats holding them back to get the 6th man?

Tournaments tend to follow the rule set that valve makes. Valve wants it to be 5v5 and limit the ability of the coach. I'd be surprised if they don't crack down on the C9 coach swap that they did at the major and even then they would not be allowed to switch back from coach to the player even if golden was present.

BiG tried it, wanted to keep it, tournament rules (especially major) stopped them. Valve strongly believes CS is a 5-man game (see coaching rule changes a few years back)

oo when did BIG try it?

Recently with Smooya, nex, XANTARES was even brought in with a decent chance he would continue the 6 man situation. They were saying at one point I think early last year, that they were making plans around it. Never got to use it really due to rules.

are you sure they wanted to keep it a 6 man roster? BIG kept him if they thought the xantares plan would fail (which it did) incase communication problems would come around (which it also did)

It is impossible to know whether they had already discarded the plan by the time they hired XANTARES, but given what we heard from Smooya there was no plans to remove any of the 6 players. They tried to use the 6-man roster way before hiring XANTARES anyway, and were knocked back (I think by ESL?)

I guess some top teams would start doing so if Valve were to allow it at majors
2019-04-18 11:15
I bet teams like MIBR and astralis wouldn't dare to change because there aren't any star players who are available at the moment

indeed, especially for mibr who've already tried so many players.. Still I wonder if subtop players such as Heroic's would agree to join Astralis as replacement players; My guess is that they wouldn't, but who knows

Look at team liquid in League of Legends, they have 5 man starting roster while other teams like SKT IG and G2 who have 6 man rosters but is going MSI while Liquid stayed good with their super star line up so far
