In the early wars, Jews were very motivated, they wanted something to become out of Israel, the mindset of "you lose, no country, probably second holocaust" was really out there.
Strategically, Israel was far more superior than the Arab countries, Israelis were motivated, high morale, they felt like they were fighting for something (literally for their own survival), unlike the Arabs whose generals and commanders were usually corrupt, inexperienced (which demoralized the soldiers), strategically impaired, not spontaneous, etc.
It's still something that plagues the Arab armies to these days (even though Israel's war is with terrorist organizations and not actual armies).

As I said in previous posts of mine, it's misconceptualized and usually held up against Israel that the US or other entities helped Israel in their wars. Complete false.
