US isn't going to war with Iran. No appetite for it in the republican or democrat legislature. Not to mention public opinion is way against it.

Actually Iraq had public support. Both congressional and the public at large. Plus 50,000 British troops and a sizable group from Canada and Australia as well. The British have already signaled they have no interest. Congressional Republicans (not democrats) have already signaled they have no interest. The head of the armed services committee has even stated there is no reason for war. Also a republican. So yes I actually do know how those wars started. If a war in Iran were to start it would not be like Iraq at all. Iraq is a shadow of the military power that Iran was. The Iraqi military was essentially dealt with in days. Iran has a real military. It would fall but it would take weeks not days. A much larger population as well which would only serve to complicate matters. A Navy that is set up specifically to counter large US warships. Now military planners have run simulations on the type of tactics the Iranian Navy would use and I'm sure they've developed counters in the years since they realized it was likely that suicide and missiles launched from small boats could theoretically hit an American carrier but it's another complication that Iraq did not have. Plus they have a fully funded Hezbollah. They wouldn't even need to develop an insurgency it's already there. It's a MUCH more complicated war then Iraq ever was and we already know how complex Iraq turned out to be. The US public has NO appetite for another decade long police action.

Iraq got public support on a lie. Vietnam and Afghanistan got it from attacks against the US. No, it wouldn't be like Iraq, it would be like Vietnam. Bomb a US embassy or something, and you'll see how fast people change their mind. The US doesn't even need a single soldier inside Iran. Just bomb the shit out of every single military equipment, and you're done.

A lie or bad intelligence. Probably a combination of both. Anyway sure if you just want to destroy the government. US policy in Iraq and Afghanistan was nation building and it was a fucking disaster. Just bombing the fuck out of them is arguably worse. I'll agree however that if Iran brazenly attacks a US interest public opinion would change. But why in the fuck would Iran do that? I assume they want to live and stay in power.

I agree 100%, it was a disaster. And I was actually only a few months away from going to Afghanistan, when I was in the military. Thank god I didn't! Just so we're clear here. I think we're in agreement on most things here, I'm just saying that if it's in the US' interest, then they'll find a way. I know that Denmark will most likely be supporting the US as they always do, so I hope you get a... no, any other president will do. No other requirements, doesn't have to be smart or anything, just someone else! :-D

I'm not against the US using military assets when necessary. I think maintaining a special forces presence in places like Syria is smart for example if only to protect the Kurdish people from the Turks to one side and Assad on the other. Same goes for the small presence in Iraq. While combat operations there ended long ago ISIS is still a threat albeit severely weakened and we owe the people of Iraq a certain level of assurance that their sovereignty is maintained. War with Iran would be another disaster. I agree we agree. We also agree I believe that Trump would be an even worse war time president then Bush was. Going to war with Iran on what has already been established as faulty intelligence would essentially make me lose faith in the US legislature's ability to check a criminal president. I don't believe in god but if I did I'd pray this doesn't happen.

Honestly there are more of us then you think. Hilary Clinton was a bad candidate and still won the popular vote by a sizable margin. Our electoral system unfortunately does not always line up with the popular vote. At some point I hope that changes. Whether by impeachment or vote I doubt we will have to live with Trump much longer. He's lost all but his most fervent base. It will be a sweet day when the state of New York puts him in jail. The problem democrats have is that there are literally 23 candidates. We need a left leaning moderate in my view to bring us together. I don't yet know who that person is. Perhaps it's Joe Biden. Whoever it is I hope the party coalesces around this person and soon. The democrats strength and weakness has always been it's inclusion of disparate people and views. This time around we need a unified front.

Yeah your system is definitely flawed. It would make so much more sense if you adapted the European way with multiple parties. And at the same time you could implement the Metric system. While you're at it, you know? I never really understood this, it's like, okay i really liked this one guy, but now I have to choose between these two morons. Doesn't truly represent the voice of the population, like democracy should. What's up with you guys liking these old guys as Presidents? Biden is like 80? Or is that someone else I'm thinking of.

Well in 1776 it was a pretty radical approach. Remember at the time most of Europe was still ruled by Kings. I see it as a lag of sorts that all countries go through to some degree or another. We've actually tried more then once to introduce the metric system in the US. Again it's a symptom of cultural lag. How do you get 300+ million people to start using a different number system. Especially when those systems become instinctual. As long as scientists and engineers are using the metric system I'm not all that concerned. As far as old guys are concerned I'm not really for or against an old guy. I'm for a guy or gal that can defeat Trump soundly. That will re-insert the United States into the fight against climate change. That will add a public option to the Affordable Care act. That will enact a federal increase to the minimum wage. Etc etc. But my main goal is elect ability and a return to sanity I'm being honest. I'd love for an Elizabeth Warren type to take office and radically change some of the ways the US conducts itself internally and externally. I just don't know if the electorate at large actually wants an Elizabeth Warren/Bernie Sanders type. In the US proudly declaring yourself a socialist and running a national campaign seems like a suicide option. The age of trump might be the time to run that type of candidate but I'm not convinced. Like I said sanity at this point is all I want.
2019-05-20 03:10
Theres one problem tho, Warren is practically a no chancer due to many factors and one of them being that she doesnt seem to understand some consequences that could happen with what’s she doing. and unfortunately from my POV she just blew her chance by rejecting a town hall for fox news, like how do you expect people to vote for you if you’re not gonna go after every american no matter what? and Biden doesnt really have a chance since his policies are just outdated from my eyes and Bernie isnt going to appeal to conservatives which is important to do.

United States jay_320
Well we have 23 candidates to choose from. We'll find someone I'm sure. Trump has basically lost the support of everyone except the hardcore conservative base. I don't think beating him is going to be nearly as hard as you make it out but things will look different in 2020 so who knows.
2019-05-20 03:21
as of now, Trump can still win this if the DNC dont decide to pick one of the “no chancers”. DNC has to choose a candidate that can appeal to all americans of all views from progressives to conservatives that can get their trust and can also understand their demands and problems. Oh and the candidate cannot be one that constantly plays identity politics or thats an automatic L. From my POV, Dems can win this if they choose someone like Andrew Yang or Tulsi Gabbard. And they got to win over swing states like Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin

To be honest with you, I haven't been following US politics since Trump. I'll check out Elizabeth Warren, but usually we get bombarded with the US elections once it gets closer. I love watching John Oliver though, politics + humor is often the best way to get people interested in "boring" but important topics. I've often used clips of him to show/explain topics to friends not interested in politics.
2019-05-20 03:17
cause all the old guys get the attention. and unfortunately we have so many problems at the moment that trying to implement the metric system would be the last thing to worry about. It’ll likely be implemented in the future but right now theres just no time to think about it.

How is he president
2019-05-20 01:31
My personal opinion is that he won because he got the problems right in his campaign, even though his solutions were wrong. Hillary, on the other hand, wasn't even addressing the problems, and as a result a more desperate voting demographic was willing to give him a try.
2019-05-20 02:45
russian facebook ads and a populist campaign aimed at getting poor retards to vote for the party that will fuck them the hardest up the ass by blatantly lying about how the economy works and dangling non solutions like "build a wall to keep the immigrants out" PS: dont tell the americans that airplanes exist, they will freak out if they ever find out that that wall is useless.

RIP EARTH ,, both of them got nuclear weapons that can destroy the whole galaxy ,, if they go full on we're all toast
2019-05-20 02:20
You have no minimal idea how modern warfare looks like, right? Having nuclear warhead is one thing - being able to fire it at distance is other. I may be wrong but on 2014 not single country had device able to send warheads further than 2000km.
2019-05-20 03:56
the usa have military bases that can launch nuclear occupied warheads ,, and iran probably can get some on a ship and launch from close by
2019-05-20 04:20
Well, it isn't 2014 anymore. Israeli nukes (not going to even mention the US) can reach up to 5000km under a certain payload cap, which is more than enough to reach the deserts of China. I'm obviously speaking hypothetically and wouldn't want to see anything close to a nuke threat or launch, just stating facts. edit: mb, just saw the date. wouldn't have responded otherwise
2019-05-24 13:10
Don't call me nerd for insta-reply, I was just putting bets on HLTV. My point is - current technology of ani-missile intercepting stations is far better than it was years back. Statistics from the same year show that USA can intercept 39 out of 40 projectiles sent in their direction. Somewhere on TV I'v seen now it's over 70/71. Of course it may be US propaganda but it seems legit.
2019-05-24 13:10
Let's say Iran has nuclear capabilities - the USA wouldn't even be a target. It will, most definitely, be used on Israel (or as a threatening measure against Israel) as these are the sole reasons they've been working on a nuclear program stated multiple times by their leaders. I can't imagine a soviet-aged Iranian submarine making all of it's way to the US without being discovered meters off of its (Iran's) shore / Red Sea / Suez Canal / Mediterranean etc etc etc... or without having problems on its way.

2019-05-24 12:36
overexaggeration. Iran has no possession of nukes, there are risks that they’re building some however. If Iran decides to start a war with USA and Israel, it wont end well for any side and especially wont end well for them if they lose.
