8 GB RAM VS 16 GB ?
Japan Chylvain
Actualy I have ASUS ROG laptop with i7 4710 HQ CPU & nvidia 860M + 8 GB ram. My question is : I saw I can add 8 GB on my laptop when I open behind. If I add 8 GB will my csgo fps will be a little better or it's useless ? I have around 100 / 140 fps and big fps drops in fight or smokes/ ty for help !

yes lol 8gb is not enough for new games and if you want to have a chrome in background or even second monitor 16 is minimum!

8gb is enough but far from optimal. Unless it is some budget pc 16gb is the way to go.

Interesting. I don't see any advantage of playong Overwatch from what i remember. In overwatch i hate that you can switch character in the middle pf he game. It gives a chance to toxic players to ruin the game or start with trash team and comeback.

I think this adds an interesting twist to the game, changing the composition of the team based on what characters the other team is playing so you can counter them easily, etc.

yep. also can be different composition based on the point of the map too (less/more defensive position for example some specialist classes that are only good in some positions, or rushing composition at the start and then switch) or out of position and switch to faster class to defend/attack in time.

Chrome 16GB? LOL Chrome was designed to even be able to run off a Pentium 4 processor with 100mb HD Space and 128MB of ram. This has been tried and tested several times to work. You do not need 16GB, much less 8GB.

+1 unless you intend to keep 200 pages open at the same time you won't need that extra ram

100mb? I highly doubt it.
2019-05-23 09:46
You can doubt it all you want. It has been tried and tested several times and works. Chrome was specifically designed this way. Is it a resource hog, yes. But in it's smallest form, e.g. not 5000 tabs open, it can run on very minimal specs.
2019-05-24 07:21
I mean, at least use proper SI-units. 100 mb? What you mean is more likely 100 MB.

pro tip: buy a new PC and use laptop for business/studying
2019-05-22 21:19
See this guy above me? Do exactly what he suggest's ! ( if can't afford NEW, then get an OK second hand gaming system from ebay type places. If unsure what to buy, ask at a Tech Forum Like HEXUS before parting with any money. Do not spend more than 450 Euro's for any second hand PC, no matter how good it's supposed to be. It's not worth it due to no warranty! )

Useless, but if he can work in dual channel maybe some 10-20 fps
2019-05-22 21:14
8Gb Ram is more than enough. Just look at your Usage in Task-Manager when playing. I think your graphic card is the problem + that you are gaming on a laptop. But 16gb Ram is overkill for you

Its processor based game anyway so most likely its useless yes. But one ram card of 8gb aint expensive anyway so you can add it for future. :) Just make sure its about same speed than ur existing one.
2019-05-22 21:19
i only play csgo so there will have no other game on my laptop yes I took picture of the samsung ram I will take the same reference if I decide to buy 8 GB
2019-05-22 21:22
I hear a lot of people say, 8 GB is enough for everything. But it really isn't, with today's games it really is very handy to have 16 GB. And basically it only costs 50 pounds more so it is a very worth upgrade imo. Fps is mostly CPU and GPU dependent and not RAM.
2019-05-22 21:17
the fact is that only play csgo and sometimes csgo not stable. i cant change my cpu or graphic card because i have asus rog laptop... i alreadu changed with SSD now I ask if 16 go will maybe make csgo more stable ?
2019-05-22 21:19
As I said, fps is mostly CPU dependent, espically in CSGO. What you could do is check the Task Manager whilst playing and see how much % is in use. If it's around 60 it's not a RAM problem.
2019-05-22 21:21
when I dont play csgo my ram is 30 % used and when I play I just checked its around 58% so if I add 8 gb it will be useless ?
2019-05-22 21:30
if not all 8gb is being used adding another 8 gb will no absolute nothing i would focus on the ram speed

You'll likely see a major improvement in FPS. Not due to RAM capacity but due to dual channel. Single channel cripples mobile chips up to a great degree, dual channel boosts performance by 20-50% depending on scenario.
2019-05-22 21:22
ok ty ! but when I play csgo my 8 GB ram is 60% used and some ppl say it will not improve my fps if I add + 8 GB ?

If RAM isn't capped, extra capacity doesn't benefit you. Adding a 4GB stick would still increase your FPS (seeing that 8+4GB would work in asymmetric dual channel).

2019-05-22 21:34
if you are running in 1x8 GB configuration, the 2nd stick will enable the dual channel mode which surely would give some FPS improvement. See videos on youtube, comparing single vs dual channel mode in games. Also check if your CPU or GPU is not overheating as thermal throttling in laptops is a popular thing.

Dual channel isn't n(FPS), it's %(FPS). Therefore for CS:GO running at 300 FPS it could be something like 60 to 100.

8gb is enough for CSGO but if u gotta change something it's ur CPU, but it's kinda impossible in a laptop cuz it's not a CPU it's like a little thing in the motherboard

if youre on win 10 and often have many programs open at the same time, 8gb doesnt cut it for purely cs ram isnt that important, cs is almost always capped by the cpu

You say that like it's easy to carry a PC around with you. You'd also have to take a monitor, keyboard and mouse with you, unless you already have them at the place you are going to, in which case you're going to need 2 sets which costs more money. I have two friends with divorced parents who need a laptop because they move between houses. What's easier, moving a PC, monitor, keyboard and mouse or just a laptop and a seperate mouse? This is a very biased point of view.

Back when I still played Fortnite a bit, I had 8gb of ram and when I was dropping the buildings wouldn't render in at the start constantly, like PUBG. So I bought 8gb extra and I never had the problem again AND I got an fps increase. So it will make a difference. And no, I didn't spend £80 on new ram for the sole purpose of increasing my Fortnite performance.

go for 2x128gb then 2000fps
2019-05-23 02:02
TALKING ABOUT CS ONLY: No advantage in terms of size of ram The speed of the RAM is all that matters.. AND ALSO DUAL-CHANNEL.. 4gb 2666mhz (2 sticks) = 8gb, it might be better than 8gb 3000mhz (1 stick), just because of the dual channel). 4gb x2 >>> 8gb x1 8gb = 16gb 8gb 3000mhz >>> 16gb 2666 mhz
2019-05-23 02:08
ok ty it's clear now ! when I check the ram of my PC on google it says it's 8 x1 GB 1600 mhz but when I use the website driverscloud to check my spec it says my ram is 800 mhz I don't understand. So if I take better RAM (more mhz I mean) it will be better ? Exemple : I delete the RAM I have to change it with faster RAM, will my laptop / motherboard accept it ?

What ddr is your current ram? Also, if you have two sticks of ram in dual channel that are on different speeds, BOTH will run at the slower ram's speeds. E.g: 1x4gb @ 1666mhz and 1x4gb @ 2133 mhz, BOTH will run @1666mhz. So, if you're not planning to replace the old ram too, just go for the same ram you already have so you dont waste money on speeds that you wont be able to reach anyways.
2019-05-23 09:36
It won't increase your CS GO fps, i had a shittier laptop than yours but i had about 100+ fps all the time and no drops. You might want to check your software and be sure no background task is using your resources. You can play most games with 8gb ram, maybe if you play newer games with ultra graphics with 8gb of ram there might be fps drops, but ram won't improve your fps in most cases. using 1x8 and 2x4 is another story though.

The problem is your GPU, not the processor or the RAM. Actually, the RECOMMENDED system requirements for playing cs go is only 4GB of memory RAM, and the minimum 2GB. I have 6GB, and I run csgo with chrome open and it doesn't consume even 60% of my RAM. Don't listen to these people saying you should add more RAM to your computer, 'cause it won't solve your problem and you'll just waste money.
