Upsets happen in bo3s as well, just less. I'm pissed off that ENCE went out of the tournament right away, but they played terrible vs Heroic and vs Vitality on 2/3 maps so they deserve to go home. The format is not at fault. Renegades also got 2-0'd by Furia and MiBR lost vs BIG, none of these teams deserve any more than what they received.

how can people say its fair wtf? do you really want two top3 teams face an elimination match only because they lost 1 BO1 (ONE, not 3 like is needed in BO1 Swiss system to get eliminated, ONE) on the very first day of the tournament (it is well known that many teams tend to underperform on the first day because they need to get used to setup/they're jet lagged)??? How do you call this fair? I would like to see a tournament for once where the reverse format is in place: Opening match BO3 to put underdog teams in uncomfortable position and all the other matches in the winners' bracket BO1. Losers' bracket all BO3. This way underdog teams have a chance to play more maps (normally they should go to losers' bracket already on the first round, where they played at least 2 maps instead of 1). Top teams need to lose 2 BO3 to get eliminated, and not 1 BO1 and 1 BO3. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL FAIR.

but that just doesn't work otherwise ESL would have already done it. It's too many BO3, they're trying to make tournaments as short as possible. You suggest replacing 8 BO1s with 8 BO3s, that is a lot of time which needs to be added to tournament duration. In my solution we would just go from 8 BO1s to 6BO1s, so I think it's feasible.
