Lots of great places in Germany. There is some difference in how the atmosphere is in different parts of the country, but a shared thing is that things just work and people are friendly.
Where to go exactly I would say depends on your interests, is it history, culture, engineering or... and also to some extent where you're also going.
Public transport in Germany as in most European countries is great and getting from city to the next is easy by train, but there is also the German autobahn with sections that are without speed limit so if driving is your thing then that is a must.
