bro everybody thinks that, but it really depends on which car and what engine it has. V6/JTD always reliable they never brake only engines that suck are the old twinsparks/jts/boxers i bought my 2008 facelift with broken 1.6 engine for 300 euro, i replaced it with a second hand 2.0 engine for 200 euro and drive in it now for 2 years alrdy buy a new type, mito/giulietta or giulia benzina or diesels are very good cars
2019-08-09 22:24
If I would buy one it would have to be a new one because in Finland no one can maintain a car properly. I know that if maintained properly Alfas are reliable but I can't trust previous owners.

The downsite to lesser known cars is often that repairs can be expensive and harder to find. So I would check the avilability of partdealers for the brand in his country.

Depends on mileage and the driving behaviour of the former owner. How many liters of displacement?
2019-08-09 16:05
#125
 |
World spaaace
entirely depends on how it has been looked after. a well looked after engine with oil change intervals etc done will do 200k no problem. an engine not looked after could develop problems at 50k. 20k on a 10 year old car with 130+k on it sounds like a lot....
2019-08-09 16:27
lmao, Audi has same piston ring issues like Vw does. Shitty engines.

 |
World spaaace
probably because they use the same engines? there is some known issues with piston rings on certain tsi engines... not like it is an issue across the whole range....and all brand engines have issues of some sort... no engine is perfect
2019-08-11 20:00
TSI, FSI etc etc are the worst engines there is. You are lucky if you have VW engine that isnt burning, leaking or eating oil at under 100k kilometres. Older Volvo engines were bad too with their 83mm block which cracked even with stock power. But yea every brand has something.

Looks like a good car 3.0 L is quite a big engine it will be expensive to drive (fuel) but it is a diesel so i guess if you have a good job you can pay. 145.000 KM is okay you might want to expect some repairs in the future that could be expensive since it's an Audi. To answer your question Audis are usually quite reliable since it's german made.

I had a 04 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro 5spd. Was hella nice driving in snow but they are expensive to maintain. 112k miles gota change water pump and timing belt. Had a flange go bad. 160$ for plastic piece wipers 112$ for a OEM pair. Pros are tone of extras for them performance and style wise. I had 19inch rims full exhaust system K&N filter smoked taillights HID light kit. I would imagine maintaining everything would be cheaper in Europe being it’s a import here tho.

well the important thing about audi is as long as you find out the problems early and do the maintenance before shit happens, it will never fail you. but that does require you to have a bit of understanding about cars or do regular check ups (by regular i mean ever 4-6 weeks.

Get an Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV. It's super fun to drive and solid modding possibilities. After I got mine stage 2, it's way more fun than the E63S AMG. Unfortunately, I don't get to drive it much because it's not suited for being a family car so much now and that's why I got the E63S but whenever I'm out on my own or with mates, I much prefer that.
2019-08-09 14:54

Alfa Romeo USED to be super unreliable because of the Twin-Spark engines but have since sorted that out completely. I've had mine for 6 years and done 140k in it and not had a single issue. The only thing with them is to keep to the service intervals strictly and buy from people who have done that. A good alternative to the QV is the 1.4 MultiAir, 170bhp for ~5-8k for a low mile FSH one. Genuine drivers cars Alfas are. Look after them and they'll return the favour. Only bad thing about them is that they are belt driven instead of chain driven.
2019-08-09 15:25
Trust me I'd love to own an Alfa myself too but I just don't think it's a good fit for the Finnish weather conditions you know :/
2019-08-09 15:35
Yeah, you could always run it on a thicker oil or try and get one with a forged engine if you've got the money spare. If you had a bigger budget, I'd recommend the A35/45 AMG because from experience, AMG engines are so superior in build quality.
2019-08-09 15:40
A35/45 is a 60k car, and I can think of loads of cars I'd rather get for that price rather than a hatchback. If I was rich I'd go for the AMG E63 Wagon though haha
2019-08-10 17:48
Fuck me cars are expensive over there. My E63S cost £85k brand new with almost all of the extras added.

Well it's an old car. And the thing that fucks up the most the exhaust pipe. I think my dad has thrown away at least 30 of those fuckers in the last 18 years. A bigger fuck up is usually when an old part stops working correctly, so the car doesn't start right away, or in the worst case scenario a pipe has melted (happened to me when I drove it for the like the 3rd time in my life :d, I drove it up the hill and stopped, but it started smokink)

Well i dont have one myself, but my neighbour has Tesla S 85D prod year - 2015 As soon as the warranty ended the problems started to occur with the door handles since they are electronically operated there was an electrical fault because water got in and its because Teslas are not built well with wide gaps in panels and sometimes straight out having bad exterior build quality so that also meant leaking tailights, and that even causes safety issues. Also his mirrors couldnt fold anymore since they are electronically operated and i wont lie this was a daily driver but to fix that stuff in a dealership after warranty runs out oh man its so cheap you won believe (sarcasm). And again the car isn't even 5 years old but it is as reliable as 25 year old Alfa Romeo

African Union OllieMaN
Yes, its drivable, but these are serious issues when you consider the fact that everything about this car is electrical. And some of those are required to work, but in order to fix them you need to spend stupid amounts of money. Just fixing a door handle has cost my neighbour 1000 euros and that is excluding work hours. You really want to live with the mindset knowing that any small detail might cost you that much ? I wouldnt and thats why im saying Teslas are not worth buying well atleast used ones, those cars are not good enough now to be serving you for an extended period of time.

2019-08-09 22:34
it`s not about the manufacturer, in terms of production quality. all engines with high hp on low ccm3 break faster than low hp on high ccm3. a 7.0 ltr v8 engine with 200 hp will run forever, like muricans build in their big cars. the 2.5 ltr 5 (3) cylinder engines with 200++ hp are done after 250.000km, no matter which manufacturer. that doesnt mean that these engines are shit, it`s a decision. who drives his car 250.000km. and in ger, small ltr engines are cheaper in taxes. + the most cars are bought by companies and car renters. they change their fleets every 4 5 years, there are basically no requests for engines you can drive 40 years!
2019-08-09 15:08
Interesting Thannks for the info. I have a volkswagen with an audi engine, 1.8 ltr 90hp and it's doing "fine" with its 400.000km
2019-08-09 15:21
yes 1.8 ltr 90 hp is good. thats 50 hp / ltr audi a3 for example you can have 1.4 ltr machine with 140-150 hp. thats ~110 hp / ltr. that stresses the machine and its parts much more
2019-08-09 18:13

I would get a facelifted one (2011-). There are always some rotten apples among mass produced items, but I wouldn't call Audi unreliable. Look for type faults and decide based on that. Compared to the one you linked, I know people with double or close to triple the amount of kilometers on their Audis and they haven't run into any big issues as far as I'm aware.

Audi engines are good engines. Say what you want about the Germans but they know how to make good engines anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Look after your engines and they will outlast the life of the rest of the car. Most people who complain about engines just don't maintain them. Like anything they need to be looked after or they won't last. German engines usually cost more to maintain but unfortunately quality has a price

My family owns a mechanic business and the majority of the cars we get are Audi's and Volkswagens. Most of the time when I'm fixing them, it's mainly the valvebody/mechatronic (the computer of the car) or the gearbox. A lot of the time the repairs can cost up to 1-5k depending on the year model of the car. I recondition about 2-5 valvebodies a day, depending on how busy we are.

i think every brand have their strong points i like to check this french website, it tells the errors in every car fiches-auto.fr/essais-tests/ for example if u check an Audi A6 the most common problem is EGR (that means that people buy fast cars and they don't accelerate enough and then it clogs)

If you want quality... reliability... and peace of mind... buy a Toyota or Lexus. :-) Mazda and Honda are solid choices too. If you want an euro car, get a Volvo or Mercedes. Anything from VAG (VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, etc) or BMW, is just asking for trouble. Some *ignorant* people still think they got the same build quality like in the 80s and 90s, but it can't be any further from reality. Speaking from experience with multiple friends/relatives. You've been warned.

Why TSI engines are shit?! I was tinking to buy a VW Polo as my first car!
2019-08-16 04:50
Well Im not sure about the newer tsi models, if they still do them. But from the release of them until 2014-15 they wouldnt last more than 140k km before something serious broke. I bought a 1.6l tsi VW golf 2013 it had gone 120k km and was driven gently (4L/100km) and still most of the crucial engine parts were done for. Same when my father bought a 2012 audi a4 2.0 tfsi sport package, he gave 2.5k euro for it and after he repaired the engine he sold it for 8k. So unless you are experienced and able to repair yourself, it's not worth going for those cars.

Platform and transmission might be, but once you take a bit of money into consideration the interior is no where near vw. Audi are legit masters of interior.

Toyota, Honda or Lexus, you have been warned.

Audi's are nice. They got potrait and framed as "bad" cars but what german cars are bad... It's all about the design, been using Audi in the states for 5 years, Q5 80k KM, doesn't have a bit of problem, but yeah you have to take care of it pretty well. But they got warranty until 100k KM, so pretty much all the oil and ish you have to take care are pretty much there. But you have to have Audi showroom near your place or work so your car is well taken care off. Since you're going back and forth 80km each day, its pretty far.

Volvo only good choice
2019-08-11 18:10
get an e class from 2014 +/- Or you can get an old german performance car amg/m/s mby rs
2019-08-11 18:22
audi's are great. a used rs5 sportback 2019 is around 90.000-120.000 EUR in germany. your wanted car is a diesel engine and has 145.000 km on the clock. its not bad but it can still make problems for you in the future.

I had a audi a6 3.0 tdi 2016. 3.0 tdi from 2015-2017 i think, got some engine problems. So dont tune it and lose warranty lel, if u do it might get REALLY expensive. After my engine started to sound weird i sold it and bought a bmw 435i coupe

Get a Volvo S60. Second gen ofc. You can probably find one with less than 10kkm for under 10k€, and they all have decently powerful engines
2019-08-16 05:00
Ive been driving van's all my life for work. I'll probably get a budget 2010-12 manual Evo X when I do get a car. Ive always wanted a GTR R34 since they came out but dont think i'll ever buy one, the X is more practical for a nice weekend car.
