Lifting help
 |
India otgps
First things first, I am a vegan so don't recommend eating meat Question is I have a set of dumbells 16 kg each and I do about 50 reps with them daily. After this though, my arms hurt for like 5-10 minutes and it hurts till I lift again the next day. Been lifting for 4 months but really finding it difficult to push beyond 16kg on 50 reps. What can I do to improve guys?

2019-08-18 21:51
Yes, I know. I just hate who is acting like Vegan.
2019-08-18 21:51
I am not a vegan or a vegetarian but humans meat consumption is a big factor in nature's ongoing unbalance. If we relied only on vegetables and cereal, the planet, and therefore us, would be better off. But people rather die I guess. I'm a hypocrite too.
2019-09-03 19:53
Meat - energy and pure protein with vitamins for the human. If you will not eat meat you will be poor on health and will die. That's why people made places when they let animals fxck with eachother to make thier population safe nowadays. So there is no unbalance at all.
2019-09-03 20:00
The resources spent to grow and maintain the animals we consume are unsustainable, the grounds become infertile, huge ammounts of water is used, and much more. Also a lot of polution comes from the food industry. All those animals release a gigantic ammount of methane (which is not all). CO2, although its the most mentioned greenhouse gas in excess right round, is obviously not the only culprit in that department. The least harmful food industries are aviaries, white meats. it is possible to take all the necessary nutrients from vegetals and such, although harder of course. Meat could stay in business if it's consumption was drastically reduced. Also synthetic foods have already been developed, and improvements are being made regarding its taste. That should replace real food. But since they don't teach useful stuff to politicians and they cannot/don't want to comprehend basic high school education, things are likely to remain the same. Also there is of course a lot of money in the food industry. Maybe their children can spend that money on Mars. Feel free to disagree.
2019-09-08 02:27
Imagine to eat soy food lmao. No dude, if you want to be unhealthy and skinny af then go eat only green things and stay around meat when its cold in winter :) GL IRL

2019-08-18 21:56
More reps doesn't always mean better Your form is important Also the intensity of it is important, if its easy your muscles won't grow but if it's hard and painful your muscles will grow faster as they will tear more and will need to rebuild more etc Also eat as much whole foods as possible and stop being a fucking vegan if you're trying to get jacked

Tunisia Respecc
Doing 50 reps is not optimal for muscle growth, and if you train only bench and biceps curls you are ignoring other major muscle groups like the shoulders and triceps which both play a big role in the bench. You also cannot train everyday because that hurts your recovery. If you want results I suggest you start with a decent program and perform your exercises with good form and make sure you're feeding your body right.

If you bench just 32 kg, which is a beginner weight it would be a bit odd if you did bicep curls with 16 kg, probably doing incorrect form > youtube.com/watch?time_continue=40&v=ZQW.. this is with a barbell but the concept is the same

try taking whey protein, should help you get more mass and strenghten your muscles
2019-08-18 22:25
Pro Athlete & BJJ Purple belt here: You make too much Reps. In order to get more strenght you need to lift heavy and do low reps. With your high reps you just Train your Muscle Endurance but to Lift heavier you need to build more/stronger muscle cells. To build more/stronger cells you need to stress them so they kind of get destroyed and rebuild stronger. Hard to describe in english but you should get the point "5x5" is a easy System to get more Strenght you should find tons of Information

That’s the problem 16kg (35lbs) is way too much to be doing 50 reps without a break. Try doing 8-12 reps for 5 sets. Take a break 60-90 seconds between sets. Strength training: 5-8 reps per set Hypertrophy: 8-12 Endurance: 10-15

dont watch youtube videos for advice on working out out of 100 videos on youtube about doing situps, there is 1 that will explain it right and all the others will cause you serious issues with your spine and muscles in your back if you dont know how to properly do exercises, get a certified professional to show you. and then i dont mean a certificate they got at the local gym. its very dangerous to fuck around with. you only get 1 body.

Bro you are saying some legit stuff but I have no means. Back in April, I just started with 2kg bars, then went upto 6kg next month. then 10kg. then 13kg and now to 16kg. I thought I'd start slow and work my way up but that's the extent of my knowledge. I was duped before when they said 100 body squats a day challenge but since I was also doing 5k run every alternate day, My hip was just exploding with pain so I stopped squatting altogether and now just run 4 times a week and bicycle for legs.
2019-08-24 10:24
youre going up way too fast its not about lifting the heaviest weight you can as many times as you can. that just destroys your joints and tears muscles, which is why you feel pain in your arms. imo just do bodyweight exercises, pushups, pullups, crunches, planking, etc, until you have a good core and more developed arms, then you can lift withot hurting yourself. or go back to 5kg weights. dont increase more than like 10-20% in one month. your muscles dont grow that fast
2019-08-24 10:29
and if running hurts a lot, not in your lungs and sides but in joints, then you should try to avoid running on asphalt at all cost. and what kind of shoes do you run on?

Always remember that form is the most important thing during your workout. It seems like you want to lift as much as possible, which is good as it shows you can push yourself, but proper form is THE MOST important thing. Film yourself doing some reps and compare it with someone that does it right on a youtube video. If you are doing it wrong then go down in weight. Then if you do it right for a while you can start to gradually go up in weight after a while

For increasing mass 4 sets of 6-10 reps is best then when you get to 10 reps and dont feel it's hard on the 4 sets, increase weights and go back to 6-8 till easy to make 10 reps. Repeat

Imho recommend you to pick up a gym membership. You really need to start to lift heavier if you want to improve. It is really difficult to break your muscles any further with such a light weight. Imo you should aim for difficult sets of 10 reps or even around 10 to fatigue. And you need to start to do more systematic training to whole body which doesn't take that much more effort so why don't you do it properly with the same effort. Why are you vegan? It is more difficult to get same boost to protein synthesis and is also not optimal for your gut.
