Not a fan of gore. I prefer an atmosphere of terror to be built around suspense and plot.

Not that much but I have Blue Velvet and Lost Highway as some of my favorites. I was being ultra cocky don't worry they are all pretty good on your list lmao. Hated Drive and Se7en tho, Nightcrawler darker than Shutter Island I think so. I'm a bit meh about Sincity but Pusher is a 10/10 movie, the second and third were based too.

thats a type of movie that if you'd want to fully understand it you would have to be Tarkovsky himself and even then you wouldnt understand all of it, but i liked the aestethics and atmosphere of it nonetheless

Série Noire (1979), a great french movie Permanent Vacation (1981), Jim Jarmusch's first movie Mulholland Drive (2001), everyone knows it Hunger (2008), great picture of Bobby Sands (IRA leader) and his Hunger-Strike in a british jail Shame (2011), another Steve McQueen movie, great shots, cold and sophisticated atmosphere Wake in Fright (1971), probably the best australian movie, fuck the kangaroo scene Hardcore (1979) Blue Velvet (1986) Midnight Express (1978) Lost Highway (1997)
2019-09-12 07:43
this has to be the first time I see someone mentioning serie noire on any site

You watched it ? In my top 10 for sure Dewaere is a fucking monster, the slow, bored-everyday-life atmosphere in which Dewaere is creeping with his obvious mental illness is weird and gloomy. It's always grey, fucking depressing but I love it.
2019-09-12 22:51
Yeah, loved it, i'm a sucker for characters that slowly fall into a downward spiral and about characters that want to desperately find a way out of their dull existences I watched it years ago when I was on a binge of neo-noir/polar french films after discovering the films of Melville

Hereditary - It’s demonic but they did it really well without using jump scares every 10 seconds. It’s always a gradual creepiness.

The Witch (2015) was a great horror movie. Prisoners (2013) is also super dark but more of a thriller.
2019-09-13 01:17
not really into horror, but I remember some batman movies having a really good dark vibe, without being horror
