She say she so good for environment yada yada but she dont even do best for nature herself? She live off the electric grid? no She make all her food herself? no She say stupid things that are her moms forced opinions? yes she hypocrite? yes i dont liek that this girl gets so much attention, the message that she sayin should get the attention xd like nature wont be better just cause people think she great person but dont do anything about it this society sucks tldr i want to sleep goodnight

She literally is bullshiting... No one took away her childhood and she thinks the adults who did are the government when in reality it was her parents who are brain washing her into being an activist. I believe in climate change if you were wondering. As a human race it's only been easier for children to have voices and adults are the ones who have created the means for that, not kids except for a few exceptions like Craig kielburger or other child activists who actually have larger careers now as adults and who make millions yet work for NPOs

"and how many resources it took to make this?"? What do you mean?
2019-09-25 03:42
i mean that her sailboat was made completely made out of carbon fibre which is one of the most energy intensive materials that exist. Flying would have a smaller carbon footprint than going on this boat ffs

The sailboat wasnt exactly built because she was gonna go to NA lol. The boat already existed with this crew. Well, a aircraft also leaks out a shit ton of stuff, waaay more than a sailboat. The sailboat also is powered/gets its electricity with solar power from what i understand. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_neutrality youtube.com/watch?v=WT8NemS6FmQ (0:21 in the clip) The boat also seems to be a "race yacht".
2019-09-25 03:49
Plus she got escorted by 4 petrol fueled ships, and the sailboat and crew all flew back to its original location along with her, so it was pretty damn stupid Just doing it over a live conference service would be an 100x better alternative if she actually cared about the environment.

"and the sailboat and crew all flew back to its original location along with her, so it was pretty damn stupid". No the thing was that the crew of the boat flew back from US to Europe. Greta is obv trying to stop ppl from taking aircraft to a location or whatever, but she mostly cares about her not taking it anywhere. "Plus she got escorted by 4 petrol fueled ships" No she wasnt? lol That was just at the start, but when they were out in the open ocean they were alone, not with the other boats. I guess ur talking about the smaller black boats that is spotted in the video i linked, those are just in the dock obviously. Those boats cant make it since they: 1. All drive on gasoline, which obv would be impossible to drive from England to New York since the boats are all small. 2. Dont have a gigantic tanker boat with gasoline with them & gas station doesnt exist in the middle of nowhere in the ocean. Do you got a video of the "escort" you are talking about? I mean from the open sea. I can 100% say that those boats just followed for a while & not all across the ocean.
2019-09-25 03:55
She took the flight back with the crew along with the ship. Ship was also big so required 4 flights back and forth to get back to its original destination. She refused to take the ship back to europe. By escort i meant ships following them for a short period. U missed my point tho, if she actually cared about the nature she would simply have done a live video conference, pretty obvious shes mainly out for attention in my eyes.

"She took the flight back with the crew along with the ship" She didnt. Greta wont return to EU/Sweden for 9 months dude. She will take a boat/train to South America & Canada to have speeches as well. ------ "U missed my point tho, if she actually cared about the nature she would simply have done a live video conference, pretty obvious shes mainly out for attention in my eyes." Or she wants to "tour" & have live speeches for crowds instead of a live feed. You know, time zones exists, should she wake up at 04AM to have a speech for people in Australia or what? lol. Attention? Well yeah obviously she wants attention because she wants to "Save the environment" etc --- "By escort i meant ships following them for a short period." Yeah, but you shouldnt type "escort" just type "ships". You make it sound like they went with her from EU to NA.
2019-09-25 04:07
1) atleast the crew and the ship is flying back, and one child flying solo to america is less worse to the environment than taking 4 ships to carry an entire boat back to eu just so that she could get her there, and for what cause? only a publicity stunt, so a complete waste of resources. -- 2) Yes i want her to wake up at 04am to have a speech to australia, there are people working night all across the world to do trade between usa/europe/australia etc, why not have her do the same thing? ---- 3) is it relevant? the fact is that it released carbon dioxide, and the whole point of the stunt was not to do it.

Answer on 1) Like i said, she cares more about how SHE travels etc. Obv she wants others to travel like her, but its more important for her to travel with boat/train etc instead of a aircraft. Answer on 2) Well, she wants to meet her supporters / politicians / European Union "face to face" obviously. Answer on 3) The boats didnt follow them for 3 hours, more like 10 min if even that. And it was her boat that wasnt supposed to release carbon dioxide / gasoline etc etc in the water / destroy the environment.
2019-09-25 04:17
she wants others to travel like her? she want entire world to go on yachts made fully out of carbon fibre? that would cost our entire oil reserve to fund and would be viable for 5 years until the yachts have broken down, and the materials can not be reused. 2) she -wants- to, well tough luck want =/= need. 3) its irrelevant, the entire publicity stunt is still a waste of resources and in no way, shape or form was it a better method than simply flying there in economy class seen out of an environmental perspective. Like I said, video conference would be the best option.

"she wants others to travel like her? she want entire world to go on yachts made fully out of carbon fibre?" She wants others to "open their eyes" & travel to locations with other alternatives instead of a aircraft. Train as an example. Or if they travel to another country go by boat if you can. She was obv on that boat for safety, but you could, as an example, take your sailing boat to Åland or Denmark / Norway instead of going with aircraft/car etc. "Like I said, video conference would be the best option." But it wouldnt. She wants to speak live infront of top of the top poltiicians, us "randoms" & those sorts of people face to face. Not infront of a webcam resting on top of her PC monitor lol. With your logic all European Union people should be in a Skype conference call instead of traveling to the European Parliament in Belgium/France & Luxembourg, lol.
2019-09-25 04:28
"do as we say, not as we do" this pretty much answers all ur points shes naive and shes a hypocrite, but its a fully normal behaviour for a 16 year old so I can't blame her. And yes in my logic, if the european parliament actually cared about the nature they would all be sitting in a conference call yes. Sadly they don't, and most people don't.
2019-09-25 04:34
btw i legitimately care about nature as opposed to her i walk to uni every day, take bus 2 times a week at most, live in small 24m^2 apartment, very rarely eat meat, have heating on cold setting to save energy in winter, fly 2 times a year (only domestic to visit family), 50% of my clothes are second hand, i NEVER leave a light on if its not needed and i produce virtually no food waste. so idk if everyone did the same as me things would be better, but people don't and people won't, sailing across the ocean on 140 tonne co2 yacht made out of unreusable materials wont make the world a better place. oh and btw i study computer science, but u could take a degree in "energi-effektivisering" which would mean doing more difference than she'll ever do by just talking. u have to do something in order for things to change, not just chant about it

But she is though. Shes trying to get others inspired / hear her story / speeches etc
2019-09-25 05:14
or just realize that big corporations are the largest producers of co2 emissions, get a degree and start making these industries more efficient xd one idea for the future is to store hydrogen underneath companies, and run that hydrogen to create energy, this way energy consumption would be way more reliable and not have the huge spikes during working hours ie during night through electrolysis producing hydrogen, and by day using those reserves in large corporations this way we dont waste energy by not using it at night, and we dont have to expand energy production capacity as much, ultimately being great for environment B-) but no im sure speeches will do the difference YES, why has never thought of that before hmmmm effectively having "batteries" (stored energy in form of hydrogen) and using these to relieve some of the pressure on our electric grid, instead of buying electricity from other countries that produced it through unreliable methods.

idk what ur point is tho what are we even arguing rn im lost im sleep deprived and i cant sleep so ive been awake for 52 hours now yay
2019-09-25 05:48
and yes i believe that all engineers devoting their lives to decrease emissions deserve way more credit than some lost 16yrold kid xd
2019-09-25 05:33
quoted by top comment of the video lol: "The “Maliza II” is a 60-foot racing yacht: like all serious racing yachts it is made almost entirely of carbon fibre. The manufacture of carbon fibre is extremely energy intensive: every kg of CF typically generates 20 kgs of CO2. The Maliza II weighs around 7.6 tons. So the manufacture of its carbon fibre alone is responsible for some 140 tonnes of CO2 – more than most people are responsible for over decades of life. "

Also it says "Zero-carbone" in the video i linked. (Long text) Carbon neutrality, or having a net zero carbon footprint, refers to achieving net zero carbon dioxide emissions by balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal (often through carbon offsetting) or simply eliminating carbon emissions altogether (the transition to a "post-carbon economy"). It is used in the context of carbon dioxide-releasing processes associated with transportation, energy production, agriculture and industrial processes. Carbon-neutral status can be achieved in two ways: Balancing carbon dioxide emissions with carbon removal beyond natural processes, often through carbon offsetting, or the process of removing or sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to make up for emissions elsewhere.[1] Some carbon-neutral fuels work in much the same way by being made from carbon dioxide themselves, either through natural or man-made processes, despite producing carbon emissions as well.[2] Much more extreme forms of carbon dioxide removal may also be used. Simply eliminating carbon emissions altogether (the concept of the "post-carbon economy") through the use of renewable energy that does not produce carbon emissions at all (such as wind and solar power) and making changes to industrial and agricultural processes to eliminate carbon production.[dubious – discuss] Carbon projects and emissions trading are often used to reduce carbon emissions, and carbon dioxide can even sometimes be prevented from entering the atmosphere entirely (such as by carbon scrubbing).
2019-09-25 03:57
Is that relevant? Her method of getting to america had a HUGE carbon footprint, considering her vessel had a carbon footprint of 140 tonnes, out of carbon fibre which is completely unreusable. Aluminum (which airplanes are made out of) is atleast 100& reusable, with no degredation of the metal in the process. Same problem with solar cells, sure its renewable energy but it takes a large amount of years for them to pay off due to the energy costs of producing it in the first place.
2019-09-25 04:00
carbon footprint for 1 airplane flying usa to europe: 11kg carbon footprint of this ship: 140 tonnes i dont even want to begin to calculate how many times she would have to take this ship across the world to make it worth it. yeh it emits 0kg, but the amount of time it takes for the production cuts to be outweighed by its emissions is a damn long time, and the fact that carbon fibre is not reusable and ships like that have a lifespan of just a couple of years does not make the situation better

Well "to make it worth it.". For her its "worth it", maybe not for us. But since she is so "into" this environment thing she will do stuff like that instead of going on a aircraft. Did you look at the Gyazo?

2019-09-25 04:02
Just start using the new nuclear technology, it's many many times more safer and with less waste than the old... also about the manmade part, we are talking about 0.8 degrees change in the last 150 years, we don't even know how much of it was manmade because it has always been changing. Sure, better safe than sorry, but the fear mongering is only scaring the children and preventing proper debate. i agree
2019-09-25 04:24
In fact, there is no such thing as "global climate". I explain to you: Most of the surface of the earth is water, while most of the temperatures measurings used by the IPCC for their climate change models are based on land. Those measurings are indeed showing a growth in temperature over the last decades, but that can be attributed to the "urban heat island" effect. Since cities got bigger, there is more asphalt and steel, which causes higher temperatures in the areas where the measurings are made. But that's a local thing. There is no "world climate", that is an abstract notion that doesn't exist anywhere. The small amount of measurings that we have from the seas and oceans are data collected from ships and submarines. These temperatures usually suffer more than 20c degrees of variation IN A SINGLE DAY, and that is mostly because of ocean and sea current, a natural occurence, no such thing as GLOBAL climate change, much less one caused by men.

u want to have fun during childhood and then grow up, good priorities she wants to preach to people about environment entire childhood? man if she actually cared about envronment she would spend all her time in school studying ways on how to do something about our issues XD ie becoming an engineer LIKE IM DOING man im doing way more good to environment than she personally will ever do, wheres my fame and fortune :( shes naive, arrogant and a hypocrite shes a dumb bitch
