once you're addicted to nicotine it's really hard to stop smoking (no personal experience though), so i guess they cant get out of the habit

It's not just a mental thing. There are physical aspects to nicotine withdrawal. Anyways, you're looking at it in such a black and white manner. It's like saying someone doesn't give a shit about their health if they eat fast food or drink alcohol once in awhile. There's levels to it.

Most people that hit the gym thniks they have a good cardio, while in fact it's pure shit. If you take them out of their confort zone they have 0 anaerobic resistance too.

One does not necessarily want to be healthy to want to stay fit.
On one hand, you'll look good. On the other hand, you need to be in good shape for various professions - such as firefighters, search and rescue, military (and in the military, 90% take up smoking at some point here, lmao). Speaking of military - I want to see you health nuts try going through infantry shit. Experience has shown that gym jocks and sports nuts that dabble in ANYTHING other than endurance are the first ones to bitch out and complain, while the smokers march on (I'm not one, by the way, just an observation from my own service time). Cops, once upon a time, had to be physically fit too, but since nobody wants to be one, standards no longer exist there. Either way, you get the point.
One does not have to be particularly keen about their health to want to work out. And hell, working out sort of becomes addictive at some point, cause of the feel-good mood after working out, and feeling like a disgusting human being when you skip.
Despite other stupid reasons they do it also to stay skinny.

I'm one of those, but i dont "Workout" in a Gym but my thoughts on Gyms arent the point of your Thread. I wouldnt say its hypocritical towards your body, since everyone has a habbit that could be seen as similar bad in contrary to going to gym or workout.
Its really the only bad habbit i have, i dont drink, i eat healthy.. i swim for half of my life twice a week and love Mountainbiking. Both is Cardio intensive. Do i have worse results because i smoke? Probably. But im not competing with anyone, i do it because i love it.
Why i smoke? Probably because im addicted as fuck and most of the time out of habit.
But i'll try to stop until i've done it.

Got a Lung Function Test and X-Ray the other day because i had a sternocostal joint problem. Doc basicly said my Lungs look like new ones. But i should stop smoking non the less.

i do sports, football, surf and i smoke. sometime i make a few aerobic exercises and muscular exercises too. and i smoke like. alot. about 14 cigarretes per day almos a package.

Bad habits are everywhere mens, I used to drink this orange juice, it had like 100% vitamen c, and like three table spoons sugar per glass (24grams), and some other shit. I probably drank like 3-4 glasses everyday, it was terrible. And then I did the same thing again with some veggi smoothie but that had 34grams sugar (4 table spoons). Now I don't drink any garbage fake ass juice anymore, just water. But oh man, if I had continued I would have had some serious problems like kidney stones or whatnot.

Apart from the fact that when you're smoking and used to it, sometimes the tobacco taste can be wonderful, kind of like coffee. Now, I quit smoking, and because of that it doesn't taste or smell good to me anymore. But back when I was smoking I didn't think it tasted or smelled bad.

I'm not a smoker myself but if you put up something like this... working a stressful job/having a big responsibility combined with the fact that you need to be/act perfectly calm all the time, at work, at home etc... maybe it makes sense?
