hmm I get what you're saying, but Tool are as experimental as EVER. 3-4 full songs on a whole album, that takes you through an immense journey imo. But I agree with you that 10.000 days is a hard one to top. If you haven't listened yet, I'd advise to listen to Culling Voices from their new album Fear Inocolum.
Give me a tip or two regarding Aaron Lewis. I just listened to So Far Away, and it was way, way too creamy for me, it almost gave me nausea.
If you like Pink Floyd, I'd also advise you to listen to Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmore), especially the self-titled album. Try Catch the Rainbow, Temple of the Kings, and Rainbow Eyes. I lost my brother two years ago, and that album helped be a lot to cope through the hard times
