They are just proggy psych rock. Sure having some experimental sounds here and there. But having a few weird sounds here and there is barely experimental. Doesnt challenge the listener a single bit. Compared with bands that make drone, ambient etc. They are just basic dad rock. And they are

Also my reasoning behind them not being experimental is that your work that was experimental two decades ago may and will not be experimental now. Since IF the stuff became even a bit influential the unusual sounds and ideas have been overused. Yes in the context of the past it was and is experimental. But nowadays after countless clones and after the sound has been "popularized" it isnt.

what the fuck is that logic literally, what the fuck. Using your logic you can say shit like that about every single precursor in every single genre. Of course one is experimental only in the beginning and after being successful the experimental things become more and more popular. It's the fucking definition of experimental I haven't seen more retarded logic in a long time like what the fuck dude

okay, then show me a band that released an experimental album several dozen years ago which is still experimental tip: you can't do that using your logic there is no such thing as "experimental in the context of modern music", it's a fallacy

Well i am stupid and i am under the influence of alcohol. I didnt say that there is no experimental music done nowadays. I just said. THAT pink floyd. WERE experimental in the past and from the POV of music evolution they are. But it is no longer experimental because their influence and ideas that they pioneered are now common thing for modern music.

You're not stupid, you're just using very weird logic. I totally understand what you mean but I just can't agree with it. I would agree with you if you meant that the BAND is not making experimental music ANYMORE because they stopped experimenting and are sticking to whatever subgenre they have created. But if you're talking about e.g. Pink Floyd's albums from the 70s which you agree were experimental, then you can't say they 'lost' their experimental status just because the subgenre became more popular. It will always remain experimental because they were the precursors of their subgenre. And if you use the "experimental in the context of modern music" logic then there is no band/album/song on earth that is experimental.

lol? They were doing stuff a lot of bands just hadn't been doing, and pushing it into the mainstream. It's not because they were mainstream that they weren't experimental? Led Zep is another one of those bands. They were trying a lot of new stuff. It isn't because the grand public liked it that it's not experimental. These fkin music elitists that think their music is better because only 230 people in nthe world like their specific genre...

Lmfao sure they "WERE" experimental. But they no longer are. Same goes for a lot of "avant garde" music. It is avant garde at the time. But decades later it is not. Since the ideas have been overused since. In context of the past they are experimental. Compared to music nowadays. They arent.
2019-10-15 14:53
what other music do you think even compares to pink floyd
2019-10-15 16:12
There are so many bands from 70s that can tie with them
2019-10-15 16:17
i dont mean compare as in "equally good" i mean compare as in someone else made similar type of music. theres no other band like pink floyd imo. they are pretty unique.
2019-10-15 16:19
Oh in that case i somewhat agree, except there are probably many bands that copied them but i understand that they don't count, in the way they are on the prog rock category, you can compere their early work more to psychedelic rock.

+1 bud tool is perfect. they are so deep and serious. and at the end of the day. they fuckin rock too.
2019-10-15 15:07
Yee buddy And the fact that they give you time to understand the instrumental parts instead of just rushing through the composition is perfect
2019-10-15 15:31
hell yea man. how are you liking the new album? invincible and descending are for sure my favorites and i think overall the album is aged and mature.
2019-10-15 22:53
Everyone has important points to choose their band. The musician that helped me the most in my private life was Aaron lewis from Staind my personal GOAT. He wrote very deep and helpful songs but also his covers wow he can cover everything and it is great. I think Kurt Cobain was a genius in music but I guess he quit before he was on his highest level. His last track showed what else he could do. So maybe GOAT musician but denied himself the status for a real GOAT. I love Tool as well and some songs very very amazing. For me, there is not this one GOAT. I know many bands that had only 1-2 amazing songs but this song so outstanding that you never forget them. Sometimes one song has more value than 200 albums. There are bands that make one amazing album after another. I don't like Tool last album so much (compared to 10.000 days as an example)you see they get old. Some people like that others don't and I need a band that still search in the darkness LUL
2019-10-15 15:20
hmm I get what you're saying, but Tool are as experimental as EVER. 3-4 full songs on a whole album, that takes you through an immense journey imo. But I agree with you that 10.000 days is a hard one to top. If you haven't listened yet, I'd advise to listen to Culling Voices from their new album Fear Inocolum. Give me a tip or two regarding Aaron Lewis. I just listened to So Far Away, and it was way, way too creamy for me, it almost gave me nausea. If you like Pink Floyd, I'd also advise you to listen to Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmore), especially the self-titled album. Try Catch the Rainbow, Temple of the Kings, and Rainbow Eyes. I lost my brother two years ago, and that album helped be a lot to cope through the hard times
2019-10-15 15:30
I personally miss on the new album the connection to Maynard. You really hear on the lyrics on the topics and the voice "3 guys made instrumental +1 wrote the vocals). It is no secret that they don't work very well together (Adam and Maynard) but on this album you can hear it in the songs. Yeah some songs have amazing Guitar parts really amazing but that is it. At 10.000days the album feel like they are still a band and love what they created. The new album give me te feelling Maynard did it cuz the 3 guys ask him nit because he says "yeah man tool again" Everyone who listens to Staind should hear "Outside" and a song that is very dark "Excess Baggage" and the song "Epiphany" he made also a nice hommage on Layne Staley with "Layne" (he was his idol and made a song for him after his dead) "please" live version is also very good and yes he has also some "love" songs. But he also made the song "waste" cuz a "fan" killed himself listen to Outside in the background and the mother of the boy came to Aaron and asked him "why" The cover he did and which are great "what hurts the most" and "Turn the page" Yeah thanks for this other names I will check them out and maybe some of them get in my favourite list. When I lost someone maybe the person that I loved the most me helped "The Offspring - gone away" cuz it reflects every part of misery, the sadness, anger, desperation and the shit you can't do anything about it. // heard Temple of the Kings and yes great song.

The Only Band from the "Beatles" time I can listen to. They made timeless songs. They are the first big band that saw music as a way to express yourself not just follow some Genre or what people expect. They had freedom and they used it.
2019-10-15 14:47
When they broke though the Beatles were already down, more like from the Zep time.
2019-10-15 15:05
I don't talk about dates only about that time. PF had before Gilmore another singer they just grow up with this Beatles sound everyone compares you to that band. But they gave absolut a fuck. They also gave a fuck about a Genre and what show you have to do. Led Zeppelin with his long hair etc followed just a trend and do long guitar solo cuz people expect that. Pink Floyd did just what they want. They made an instrumental without Guitar (I guess it was without Guitar) cuz they want it not because it would sell well. And to this time it was harder to do that than like the 90s with all the new rock bands. Nowadays everyone follows a trend again. Sad for music.
2019-10-15 15:28
There were a lot of bands and artists who were free and let go. PF was labelled as well, in the 60s, they had no face. Just your regular post rock and roll band. Once they found their bits of success, they gained freedom. Pretty much like any other succesful band in the world. Not every band experimented though.

They're sure great but I personally don't like them much and find them overrated, slightly. You just gotta be a huge fan of their style to dig most of their songs, because they're so lengthy and different to each other, it won't keep you interested for long unless that's the only band you know.
2019-10-15 15:04
I guess it is always a view of time cuz at this time do such music was brave, hard and outstanding. In their prime time, they were a big band and they have songs that people still hear today even younger people. "Wish you were here" as an example, you could play this in 1000 years and it still reaches the people. Or the end of season 4 person of interest "welcome to the machine" you couldn't find a better song. Still, give chills when you see the scene with this unique music. But same with the song "Sweet Dreams" from Eurythmics. You still hear it in many movies it still gets covered. Such songs you don't forget.
2019-10-15 15:35
It's a matter of concept, if put in at the right moment, any other fitting song, it will be memorized just as strongly. There are an ocean of obscured tracks that never got your praise.
2019-10-15 16:58
yes. But some songs so remarkable that other songs will never see the same way. You could call it a "meta" Songs that people listen to or play/cover cuz they are good and anyone knows they are good. "Wicked Game" as example became first really known after it was a part of a movie. before that people didn't know is exist.
2019-10-15 17:08
There are many cases like that, to promote a song it actually takes a lot. Just to write and record it, is only being halfway there. It's always been revolving against either the radio or Internet like today. If give it a fair listen without any production, data could be vastly different.
2019-10-15 17:10
"It been a while" was played first time 1996 and Aaron lewis said always people don't wanna hear it. 2002 it was their most successful hit. Music is a lot of promotion but also quality will always find its way in the long term. Overall I think the most important part is how you do it live. If you can do it better than on record you are the best
2019-10-15 17:14
I doubt that criteria, it highly depends on the style and genre, rock and roll numbers are not hard to replicate and take much higher while some hard rock operas will struggle to get any better. Taking they were incredibly good in the studio too. I'm so in love with music, it can give a meaning to live, it can make one happy.

The best experimental band would be Tool. But they aren't a busy bunch. Took them 14 years to make their last record which was released about a month ago. Tool is a genre of their own. You can't really place them into any box where other bands reside.
