Do you need university?
 |
Canada dAnk7
Obviously there are some jobs that require a degree, like astrophysicist and other shit like that, but what good jobs do you think don't need university?

Mechanic and carpenter pleb jobs? xaxaxa, you must be very young with such an erroneous, naive and unintelligent attitude towards good professions. Your mind will change when you get some life experience.

Dude I studied five years at AAU here in my hometown, you're an actual pleb; a dumb little kid who doesn't have any experience of holding an actual job besides delivering news papers. I can't wait for you to meet real life, you'll fail miserably.

2019-10-17 11:34
It's true. I've personally known a few myself. But it was common in times past for people to stop schooling early to start working. If you're smart, once you've learned all the basics needed to live a normal life schooling isn't so important unless you have a specific job/career in mind that requires it.

Mate, I'm genuinely curious as to what jobs exactly you consider plebian in nature, because there's more than just one meaning to that word. Is it the pay? Manual labor? Really, what factors make a job plebian?

Programmer/SW engineer here, but sure. Mate, if you can't even specify what your equestion entails, you have no business asking the question in the first place. Also... commercial pilot, web designer (may or may not require a degree, based on company policy), Ilustrator, Diagnostic medical sonographer, Surveyor, Online advertising marketer, Construction manager... There's plenty of jobs that typically do not reequire a degree, even if having it might help your chances of getting hired Edit: also, Air traffic controllers

The university is massively overrated anyway.
2019-10-17 08:34
Only bad ones are.
2019-10-17 09:29
You have only bad universities in Finland.
2019-10-17 09:35
I went to Aalto-University which was a good university.
2019-10-17 09:41
No its not.
2019-10-17 09:45
Okay.
2019-10-17 09:47
Yeah thats what I thought.
2019-10-17 09:48
From your unmatched intelligence I can tell that you didn't go to a Finnish university.
2019-10-17 09:56
Fuck no, they are all garbage. Just like AAU where I studied for more than five years. University life is awesome, but the degrees are massively overrated. You'll learn once you're ready to get into the actual job market.
2019-10-17 09:59
Obviously you learn in the actual work but without going to university I would have had no qualifications to do the job I'm doing right now. For me university taught me how to learn, and that's the biggest thing I got from it.

A programmer doesn't need it, but you will most likely be stuck there forever, just coding shit others tell you to. If you want to be a software engineer though, you will need one for sure.

I disagree. I work with non-programmers that code... Well, they can work, clearly. They are only able to work with the company technologies, once you step aside, they're lost. My boss was surprised that I was directly efficient, I was the first real programmer to be hired in quite a while (8 years I think).
2019-10-17 09:38
As a non programmer I can confirm

I’d like to see you become an averagely-paid software developer without a degree at KPI or wherever else I agree most uni’s are shit, actually. I’ve visited many and only found Lviv’s catholic uni and KIMO acceptable The level of English studied at all uni’s is ridiculous btw. B1 at the foreign relations course is a fucking joke
