Isn't it due to government raising metro tarrifs even more while it's alrdy insanely expensive. And on top of that, the few private investors get more share every time tarrifs are getting raised or smth? idk pls enlighten us someone!!

Exactly Almost any basic service is privatized With the old system the average person would get 800000 pesos a month (srry for not converting) and now the average doesn't pass the 120000 monthly

chile is centralist, so everything out of their most important city is sh**, but chile is pretty much suffering, im afraid argentina will get worst if cristina kirchner becomes president :(, SA is suffering

No matter who becomes president here, it will always be a thief that will make things worse. All the past governments were shit so being afraid of a particular party is kinda dumb at this point (._.')

It doesn't , Education K through 12 is "free" in Chile , Universities are very heavily subsidized. There is also public "free" health and hospitals. And by the way , the trains and buses in Santiago are the best in all of South America , better than the ones in Buenos Aires , Sao Paulo and the trains and subways in Santiago - Chile are better than the Trains and subways on New York in U.S This is an extremely inaccurate and bullshit post , once it starts with "inequality" you know you're in for a bullshit treat.

Have you ever been in a chilean Hospital (not clinic, hospital)? Do you know how much the career i want to study costs monthly? And it’s easy to have that good of a metro with those prices
2019-10-21 00:13
"Have you ever been in a chilean Hospital (not clinic, hospital)?" Not myself no , i know many people who have been , they're x10000 better than Argentinian , Cuban and Brasilian public hospitals , in fact there's this hospital in my city called "Sabato" , my city is Berazategui , you can google it and tell me if the public hospitals you're thinking of are worse , i'll take a few photos when i can and show them to you if you want , you have absolute 0 clue what you're talking about. Your metro is costly but at least it's worth what it costs , in NYC their metros are also expensive as fuck and a bunch of them are dirty as fuck , badly mantained and ugly to travel with. The public university topic i wont even get into , you've gone full retard there , i will tell you this though , all of these Europeans wanking themselves about their public unis never get any of the positions they want when they have to compete against the top private universities , take a wild guess why. Look dude im not telling you Chile is perfect and that no changes are needed , changes are needed but NOT IN THE DIRECTION THAT THESE PROTESTORS WANT , Lionel , you will NOT reach prosperity with a statist system , even if you have a statist society asking for more governent and "free" stuff which you really dont. The only way to genuinely get people out of poverty and make everyone richer is through genuine growth , you will grow once you cut a LOT of expenditure , you abolish pretty much every reform that Bachelet made and then you SERIOUSLY lower taxes and simplify them to compete at least with Austria or Czech Republic in a tax structure level. No Lionel you will not reach prosperity going to a Sistema de Reparto , you will not reach prosperity getting statized uni , you will not reach prosperity by having tons of subsidies in Energy and Transport , you will get a lot of short term pleasure like the Kirchners did to Argentina , it will absolutely obliterate your country in VERY FEW YEARS. If you think its worth it by all means , just dont blame "the evil empire" when it all goes to shit...

2019-10-20 21:54
well its just about picking an arbitrary moment where to start counting. you can talk about specific times when recorded history started in certain areas of the world, when writing was invented. or about invention of agriculture or first cities. but what are you supposed to do with a question like when did history start? there are billions of years of evolution leading up to humans. and its really hard to point at a specific point in time when some monkey stopped being a monkey and became a human.

allow me: Chileans have apparently started rioting in the streets due to a public transport price spike that also amplified other situations that were also bad.

2019-10-20 21:21
It wasnt an artificial spike , government was subsidizing a lot of the cost and it couldn't afford it , so they cut the subsidy. Leftist Chileans are just moronic , filled with resentment and ignorance they have no clue what their country went through. They want everything for free and at the sime time they dont want to drown in debt , they will be just like Argentina in a few years , and eventually , like Venezuela.

Im fully aware on how the afp's work. You have fully public K-12 education. Also public health. Im not some random outsider talking out my ass , i have very close people in Chile and i follow it very carefully , you aint selling your retarded shit to me. You see , after Bachelet's nepharious tributary reform and fascistic educative reforms , Chile lost A LOT of investment and intern pymes' , this is why your country hasn't grown in over 5 years , no growth = no salary and purchasing power increasement , Chile should grow at >6% , it hasn't grown over 1.5% for YEARS. You also lost a lot of tax revenue because that reformed resulted in less revenue due to bunch of business going bankrupt , now your country has been operating at a fiscal deficit for 6 years , and you want to increase government expenditure??? ARE YOU ACTUALLY FUCKING RETARDED YOU FUCKING LEFTIST SHIT!??!?!?!?!?? WTF??? Dude i swear to god i'll never understand the self-supremacist mindset that you dumbasses have "yeah i'll do exactly the same stuff that Argentina and Venezuela did , but im not going to end up like Argentina and Venezuela cuz.... cuz i are better xd" I'd punch you so bad i'd knock the retarded leftism out your brain dumbass.

The leftist Puebla Group is the one behind all the massive protests in Latin America and Spain with the objective to overthrow the governments, to cause instability in society and, in the long run, get back into the leading position. It's not coincidence that Ecuador, Spain and Chile had these protests at virtually the same time.

actually, scratch that. It seems this event is actually covered somewhat a lot here on the biggest newspapers/sites. something about public transport taxes. will read more about this later
2019-10-21 00:31
Alright i see a lot of leftism lies and evil perversion , so i'll make the proper sum up here: 1) Chile has a fully statized public transport , it is one of the bests in America dont believe idiots who will say otherwise , they will claim its bad because they haven't seen public transport in other countries. 2) Chile's government spends more than it collects in taxes , they just raised taxes ~2 years ago , they collect even less money because of that , it needed to make a considerable expenditure cut , they figured the best expenditure cut they could've made was cutting subsidies , including subsidies to public tansport. 3) Chile's government also wanted to privatize Transantiago , but these idiotic moron protestors are clearly against that as well. 4) Chile has public state education and public state healthcare , Universities are private and they are still heavily subsidized on demand side. 6) Chile has a private capitalization retirement system , its the most successful and sustainable system , but due to Chile being a developing country and this system being in place for a very short amount of time AND idiotic Chileans having no clue how the system works , they get low retirement pensions , so they want to go to a full socialized pension system which would absolutely destroy their country as it is destroying the rest of the world. 7) These protests , at the end of the day , are made because they want MORE subsidies , they want to FULLY STATIZE Universities , healthcare , pensions , raise taxes even much more , probably to Argentinian or Comoros levels , they just want the same statism that destroyed their country. There is much more at play here and the elite international press will side with the left , the Chileans who defend Liberty , small government , free market and capitalism are a silent majority , but they're also a bunch of cowards , so if the left doesn't let go they might just win. The subsidy cut has already been canceled after all...

1) being the best of South America doesn’t mean that is good 2) Thanks mr. Piñera (Rightist btw) 3) why would you privatize PUBLIC TRANSPORT 4) Public healthcare sucks + medicines are literally 30x more expensive than in other countries 6) (cuz u don’t know how to count properly) military and police have different retirement system and they get more than half a million per month while the average is around 120000, why isn’t that system applied to the rest of the country? 7) can confirm that only with the pensions problem being solved this would have never happened

There still people like that everywhere, still its pressure on the governments budget will soon be enough that it will either have to print to pay, meaning currencies will be worthless, or they will simply not pay at all. Its a matter of time and demanding yet more expenses will only bring the end sooner.
2019-10-21 00:56
1) Is also a lot better than NY and Cali public transport , and all of Eastern Europe. 2) You've had a fiscal deficit of over -1% since 2012 , your fiscal deficit expanded in 2017 with Bachelet's reform which ended up in higher taxes but less revenue due to a lower base. 3) PUBLIC TRANSPORT doesn't mean STATE RUN , Public means that it accessible through the public lane , outside , you can have private corporations public transport , this is actually more ideal since by being private it cost 0% to your government , whether you use transantiago or not , EVERYONE in CHILE finances it at least with IVA , but any tax really , think about that for a moment before replying. 4) Well say hello to public healthcare then , that's how it is EVERYWHERE , the Europeans that gloat themselves on it are mostly full of shit except for the Nederlanders and the Danes , the cost to have such a system in a semi-sustainable manner is to FULLY close migration. 6) Military and Police save more into their afp's , the avg fuerza armada STARTS earning around 700K , average salary in chile is like 500K in Santiago , a bunch of regions have most people working in 380K average , if both put the same % , the fuerza armada will always have a higher pension dumbass , they usually pay more % into the afp as well on top of all that , they for some reason understand better how the afp works. 7) What you think will "solve" this problem will absolutely make EVERYTHING x10000 worse.

Piñera made an expectation of 3% in terms of growth and see what happened (that was a scandal over here but i suppose u don’t know shit) Ok my dad earned around 800k a month almos all his fucking life and now gets a little bit more than 200000 so why if the military earns less they get more money afterwards?
2019-10-21 00:50
Ahh i get it now , you think im a Piñera supporter , well im not , Piñera had something crazy like below 70% of the voting base of Araucania because they were hoping he would beat the shit out of the terrorist mapuche guerrillas and he didnt. He said he'd lower taxes and he didnt. He condemned Bachelet's school assignment reform and he hasn't abolished it yet. He said admission exams had to comeback and he hasn't done anything. I think all in all Piñera has been a massive failure and liar , If your dad really earned 800K per month in 1995 and he kept the same salary , he lost A LOT of Purchasing power in the 2000's , actually over 33% , he should've been smarter with how he spended , 800K dude jesus....he should've put in at least 130K into the afp's every month for 24 years , now he'd be getting at least 680K~ roughly , most likely a lot more. Military usually earns more and put a higher % into the afp's , Your father had 800K all his life according to you??? Militarymen start at 6 to 7 hundred , then after 8 years they're usually over 1M , do you see where this is going , but more importantly , the countries that do go Sistema De Reparto are ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BROKEN , buddy , France is 4 trillion dollars into debt fully insolvent , you say you want to go sistema de reparto because you care about the poor little elderly ... well , WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK GETS FUCKED UP THE MOST ONCE THE COUNTRY DEFAULTS ON DEBT?!?!?!??! is not 20 year olds of any social class , and is certainly not one demographic from the richest people .... so take a wild guess.

You've proven me you're a leftist , i don't know where did i say anything positive about Piñera , the only 2 good policies he would've enforced were the congress reform where he wanted to reduce the amount of congressmen and obviously , this week's subsidies cut + semi-privatization..... none of those reformes were passed as he already canceled the subsidies cut and he's OBVIOUSLY not gonna privatize any of transantiago. You will seriously have to point to me where have i said anything positive about Piñera.

I just want freedom , anti tax , anti regulations , anti "free" government stuff , ANTI SUBSIDIES , Anti statism and government enterprises , smallest possible government , freedom of speech and gun rights , freedom of trade and entrepeneurship. Anti subsides So education should be free or just paying 5 million a year?
2019-10-21 04:32
Education should be whatever the market ends up being. Also i find it amazing that you care more about the cost than the actual education in and of itself , prestige and actual quality of education are far greater priority than cost , this is why non rich people save lifetime money to send their kids to the most prestigious coleges , Europeans going to public schools who graduate in natural sciences or programing and try to run for a top level position in these fields against someone from harvard , oxford , cambridge , etc . WILL NEVER GET IN. I think if you let the market work you'll end up with a baseline K-12 education that's far more educative and cheaper than the current model , probably to the point where colleges will be rendered outdated or niche. I mean...imagine if 200 years ago you would've told some random dude that people wouldn't communicate through handwritten letters or face to face but rather mostly through electric little glasses with colors through the air , he'd think you're an idiot having a bad trip. For all the tolerance and openness for creativity that you leftists claim to have , you've proven to be THE MOST closed minded authoritarians in the block.

2019-10-21 01:12
Indeed , but since they're the best we've got in this region they for some reason think that once THEY do populism , they'll turn into Sweden or Denmark , now they have no clue that Sweden Finland and Norway will absolutely crash like hell in the next 10 years and that in order to have the danish sistem , they'd have to fully close immigration 100% and do very serious anti-populist reforms , but they don't care , i just seriously hope the average weon knows better , we have to , if we lose Chile this region will remain a shithole until Argentina goes back to its golden age roots .... sooo....we're talking decades from now.

actually saw in TN things about protestors burning lots of supermarkets, a toll and a newspaper house, and now in instagram i saw things involving military in the streets, shooting to people (not too sure about that, but there was some guys in the floor or being pulled by militars) *btw, this whole thing makes me sad tbh...

The only thing i found was also about the price increase of metro tickets, which by the videos i have seen on social media im guessing that's not all of the problems.

I don't know too much about Chile, but it seems these young people are too extreme and violent. Probably because they didn't live through dictatorship. It seems this is a result of a lot of years and bad governments. I don't know how a small country with only 18 million people can get in such a shitty situation. But abstention by the voters (like it seems to happen there) also isn't the solution to this.

Hope you guys in Chile stay strong, sad to see a president with ties to the Pinochet dictatorship (this considering his brother was a minister for Pinochet, which implemented an individual capitalized pension system). Nikto ne dast nam izbavlenia; Ni bog, ni tsar i ni geroj; Dobiomsia my osvobodzhdenia; Svoieiu sobstvennoi rukoi; Chtob gniot rukoi umeloi; Otvoievat svoio dobro.

1: I'm sure your government does some outrageous stuff and should be held accountable. But! 2: Never ever has "stuff is getting expensive, lets break expensive stuff" lead to lower prices for anything. 3: do NOT privatize your public transport. Maybe it will become more 'cost-efficient' but that just means less actual transport or higher prices. edit: this is not necessarily to OP, just replying to some things I saw ITT

I don’t think they’re "breaking expensive stuff " to lower prices If u are from here you’d know that a lot of protests had taken place and the government just didn’t care People broke things (yes, past tense cuz they already stopped) just to catch the attention
