If people have no God to follow they will end up following the State, which many here worship already. Plus self mutilation is not a common practice among christians, most people are moderates. On the other hand, I see many atheist depressed folks cutting themselves to a much more dangerous degree.

First of all, happiness is not measurable. You must be projecting here and implying some correlation between atheism and happiness that has no basis on reality. You can be either happy or sad independent of your religious beliefs. What I said is that in my life I have encountered much more edgy atheists kids depressed to the bone than religious folk, who tend to find solace in religion. Same as people that turn to religion when facing difficulties and big sadness.
Like I said, if you grow up as an atheist in a religous society, that can be depressing and frustrating.
Somehow I highly doubtful that is a source of legitimate depression in today's society,specially in the west. Just a source of frustration at best.
In Western Europe that is not much of an issue anymore. We kinda grew out of it. But it still is in many US states and South America.
Thats not what I see here tbh, maybe in small towns or poorer parts of the city. Overall we are not much different from europe in this regard.

Orthodox Church in our country is exactly what you described, it's scary that it has so much impact on people in terms of politics and in terms of poeple blinding trusting priests. i have no clue what happened because as far as i know in early 80s most of us were non-religious.

It's not about fairy tales, it's about the Christian COMMUNITY that from day 1 creates living patterns and healthy habits.
About the fairy tales part, I don't need it, you might not as well, but some people do, at least to create good habits and give his/her life meaning. All I've said are logical, proven statistics, people that had 1 or 2 partners before marriage because of religious beliefs create MUCH more stable families and kids.
The same thing for little shits that go to the army and come back decent, honorable, respectful men after a few years. I didn't need an army to become like this, but they did.
