AMA not allowed mens)) report
2019-12-03 14:11
why is AMA not allowed when it's giving a different point a view / wisdom such as being a music producer outside of the game ? I'd love to ask questions to a movie producer for example
2019-12-03 14:12
Boring AMAs get deleted. If Dimitrii considers this boring, then delet
2019-12-03 14:15
hope Dimitrii likes techno music then :D
2019-12-03 14:15
i guess the fact that AMA is on for almost 3 hours means Dimitrii likes it. Unless he´s not here.
2019-12-03 14:42
i'm so happy Dimitrii love techno. he sent me a booking offer to play at his place on NYE

Arent there enough french house artists already?
2019-12-03 11:54
I agree but i'm a french techno artist and they got nothing on me! i've been doing this for 7 years and I never ever followed the trend
2019-12-03 11:58
thats why ur shit homie
2019-12-03 16:08
you mean I should follow the trend so I can shine ? that would mean being deeply unhappy about myself because I would sell my ass just to make some money
2019-12-03 19:17
you sell your ass once to get reputation and then continue to do your own thing
2019-12-03 20:33
like what ?
2019-12-03 21:29
Sometimes your idealist doesnt work in long term. You need to look at the market just once and you see if it works for you or not.
2019-12-04 09:26
i will then die idealistic mate i will never make music to please a certain audience

I like it, I'm heavily into the techno scene in belgium, maybe we can talk one day about bookings. Imo your percussion needs tweaking, sounds a bit flat and are those 100% original kicks or samples?

thanks dude ! I wanted to share this for a long time. that would be great I know Belgium has a huge rave historic. i like my kick/bass flat and give life to medium/highs. these are samples of course, I know how to design a kick myself from 0 to 100 but it would take too much time, atm I like to produce fast when I have an idea

I understand, but you can put down the idea with samples and finish with your own after. After a while you develop your own signature sound which imo is very important with so many artists around. HMU on SC DM, dropped you a follow (Gregg Arens), I'll follow your work, let's see what happens.
2019-12-03 12:03
very true, nowadays most successful artists are making techno like 1000 other guys, but they catch more the attention with their unique sound. will do dude ! I will loose my mind if I get a booking from HLTV lmao

Must say it's not my style of techno though, but it's good, I like it harder, in the 140+ bpm range. Gonna link your SC around.
2019-12-03 12:11
I understand, 140bpm techno became so big lately, I mean it was already but there is such a big revival since the last 2 years.. I feel almost out of the scene because i'm on a lower bpm. I must say ive been producing 135bpm tracks lately, not too fast but very groovy like the Robert Hood tracks thanks man for the help ! it's been very slow on bookings lately and unfortunately it's my only music revenue

Awesome. Yeah I just like to be fucking tired after a rave haha. Also, for slower bpm techno I like stuff like ARTBAT, TALE OF US, Adriatique etc. The very melodic sound.
2019-12-03 12:15
that's the point of the rave right, just give it all until the end ! I love that melodic sound, I wish there was a middle ground atm because everything goes either for that 140bpm rave scene, or more deep/melodic sound at 130bpm

if I can give you a good recommendation, learn everything, read those boring manuals you won't regret it later, and before you switch to Hardware, make sure you master everything in the Software, it will help you a lot

i'm a music producer because I write music from 0 to 100, mixing and arranging all by myself. I'm very disappointed you put my music in this house/EDM/techno drawer, I really try hard to distinguish myself from what you can hear today, even though it falls in the techno category

Doesn't it get boring doing your genre? How do you master your tracks? Ozone? Just a limiter or something?
2019-12-03 13:40
i'm passionate about techno, it never gets boring. I visited Berghain last winter and it got me even more addicted to this kind of music. I think it's fascinating how much music you can create using the same drum pattern. This genre has been here for 30+ years and it's still not tired. I don't master my tracks, it's on the label side. I sent the finished tracks with a final mix I did and they do the mastering from there I wouldn't recommend Ozone if you can't master it, you will most likely not improve your mix

How much money do you earn and how much is it possible to earn in this genre?
2019-12-03 14:12
at the moment I don't earn any money because I don't make big numbers on streaming platforms and unfortunately I don't have any bookings, which is the sole revenue in my genre. techno producers don't make a lot of money on streaming but they can get really big paychecks when they play out. biggest names in my genre will take 20k PER GIG. and you can play up to 3 gigs a weekend.

Is using compression to make recorded music grab more attention due to just being overall louder like with commercials still a thing? I hate the practice with a passion as I find it just limits dynamics, so in general I try to avoid music that is mixed that way.
2019-12-03 14:19
ah ! I like your take. seems like you know some stuff about music production I've always been fond of everything about compression, and as you heard i'm abusing it. in my opinion it gives so much structure and energy to the sound. when it comes to amplified club music like mine, if song is well compressed, it will go OFF and really distinguish from other bad produced club songs. As an argument, I want you to know that I make music exclusively to play out in clubs/festivals, and not for the casual spotify home chill. Thats why the compression. But it's also from my personal taste in techno, i'm always more impressed with songs that achieve a good compression overall. Although, i'm now more aware it's also really good to have good, clear dynamics in my songs and I try to compress less to give a more natural sound
2019-12-03 14:25
Used right I think compression makes sense, especially for like techno or other types of music where the sound stage does benefit in some ways. Where it really pains me is when there is for example a band which used to have decent productions with music that can be both laid back and then loud, when they then put out something where the laid back is just loud due to compression. I get that on crappy music services and on crappy music systems it might sound more impressive, but then on systems that can support real dynamic music it then sounds crap because the trickery is revealed.
2019-12-03 15:47
that's really true man ! you must now the laid back and compression is fucking terrible on streaming services. my mastering guy told me very services use a different limiter which can kill the dynamics
2019-12-03 19:24

favorite compressor? (cant rate ur music now im at work so decided to just ask u a technical question)
2019-12-03 15:50
I used the ableton compressor for so long that i'm used to it. i even made a stereo compression myself out of it. but lately I have been using Fabfilter C2 + Fabfilter Limiter on my drum bus (kick + bass group)
2019-12-03 19:23
Ah yeah the Fabfilter shit is amazing, love the Pro-L2 and the Pro-Q3
2019-12-04 09:19

2019-12-03 19:48
thanks men I appreciate ! it's kinda disgusting when I don't get any more gigs out of it because I can't make a living out of it no more but I stick to it, definitely is my passion
2019-12-03 19:56
maybe try a style which would be good for clubs for one song. live djs in clubs can do big buck and most often they are sought after
2019-12-03 21:12
whats your honest and non biased opinion about modern rap and kpop ?
2019-12-03 19:59
I won't be able to deliver a honest opinion because I don't know much about these genres. I put all my focus into techno music, old or recent

i ment that it gets somehow repetitive. it's not like it sounds bad, i like what i hear but i crave some variation. i would add some layers, some sounds/melodies/ambiences/fx in order to make the tracks more dynamic, make them evolve and a little bit over time and make them feel more textured, more organic. i don't mean that you should add a lot of things, but it's all about the song's progression: how it flows and travels from the starting point to the ending one. maybe start with the track as it currently is, then at some point some kick delays start to build up, then a distant soft synt sustains some chords for a while, then back to the track but filtering out all bass, etc. this kind of stuff
2019-12-04 16:49
Don't listen to electronics, sorry. I'm a classical type.
2019-12-04 04:49
that's fine ! what kind of classical do you like most ? lately i've been on a Gabriel Fauré tip
2019-12-04 11:04
Not classical by definition, it just should be an acoustic kind of music. Played by real instruments, played the living beings. No technology allowed in music, hence classical, it's not the standard of music anymore.
2019-12-04 11:06
oh wow, do you still find that kind of music anywhere ? I feel like even rock bands and classical stuff is not recorded anymore
2019-12-04 11:17
I don't listen to pop music at all, so no, I don't find it anywhere. I listen to the old records, my only salvation.

then why don't you go see some nice orchestra play live? it's awesome actually (it is expensive most of the time, but you go once and you remember it the whole next month for sure)
2019-12-04 16:54
I'm telling you, I don't mean classical music literally, that's just how I call classic styles in these days. Although how can you not like an actual classical music, I do.

oh i think i get it: no amplifiers, no microphones, just acoustic instruments and voices? it's not the most popular music by any chance but still you can find some really nice bands play it. i love this unplugged vibe, even if i like sampling and synths and electric guitar & bass & all kind of audio FX too. i feel like the "acoustic vibe" is losing to the "digital vibe" nowadays (specially with the overuse of autotune and time-quantisation tools) and it is difficult to find people who still appreciates it raw
2019-12-04 17:43
Not that far gone, how can you struggle with my wording. I guess I should say the acoustic drums, real vocals and each instrument's man made and driven by each member of the group. Nothing automized or replaced by electronics. People portraying their actual skills and performing abilities.

Europe sn00b_d0gg
ahahah okaaay so amps and mikes allowed? i mean, if you refer to that there are plenty of bands that meet your criteria. i was under the assumption that you didn't like technology in music at all, but if that is not the case you ain't even struggling i guess
2019-12-04 17:51
I mean the techs that simplify the industry when there's no way to ease it more than it was. All those softwares just ruin the initial meaning of pop music, now every introverted jerk in his room can come up with some depressed tune and attract the crowds of the same depressed jerks. Ugly people spread out instead of getting helped. If you can't do music off your skills and knowledges, you should leave this for those who can.
2019-12-04 17:55
that's a sad vision. software allows everyone to makes music, when it was just for some people back in the days, those who could afford all the lessons and the instruments.
2019-12-06 15:01
what should i focus on to be a music producer ? working only with FL studio is enough ?

you should have the passion first, if it's not here then you will never be patient enough until you reach the top. then you need healthy mindset and lifestyle, for example it can be depressing to give it all to the music, with no job on the side, because if you don't succeed very fast you gonna be hella poor. focus on sound design and learn the software and the machines, learn how to mix is important as well. the more you know about all the process, the less people you will need to ask and pay (example : mixing, mastering, arranging..) i know some pretty dope producers on FL Studio (i.e : Madeon), it all depends on your personal preference, there is no specific limit to each DAWs. i'm on Ableton since 7 years so I just stick to it

This is not my type of music at all but i appreciate it. I know only few people dedicated to be music producer and im working on it rn even if i only use flstudio but its sohard, not that hard but need so much dedication and time

thanks that's great to read :) as you said, it is not that hard, it will take you time to learn and understand all the process but yes, it's a lot of dedication. as I said in #145 I think you shouldn't be full time on it first, because it can be very hard to prove yourself in this business. use your free time to learn, as you would read a book, and if it really feels like a passion then you can ask starting questions to yourself

Yes its not that hard but its so hard maintain time between cs and flstudio haha Youre right, first you need to love the process

Why don't you just forget about techno and just whisper in to the mic asmr style and sing about depressive episodes aiming at impressionable teenage girls. Ez money mens

I’m not really into techno but this seems a bit more modern, some of your tracks have nice ambience as well I mess around with music sometimes too, it’s so nice to have a free space of creativity

thanks man I appreciate your input it's true it's the only way I feel useful kinda, way more than when I play cs, because I actually contribute to something
