you should have the passion first, if it's not here then you will never be patient enough until you reach the top. then you need healthy mindset and lifestyle, for example it can be depressing to give it all to the music, with no job on the side, because if you don't succeed very fast you gonna be hella poor.
focus on sound design and learn the software and the machines, learn how to mix is important as well. the more you know about all the process, the less people you will need to ask and pay (example : mixing, mastering, arranging..)
i know some pretty dope producers on FL Studio (i.e : Madeon), it all depends on your personal preference, there is no specific limit to each DAWs. i'm on Ableton since 7 years so I just stick to it
