CPU upgrade
Europe Dolbajoba
I think its time to upgrade my PC little bit, I was thinking to buy I5-9400f. Right now I have I5-4460 but its a fucking dogshit with 100fps. Will I5-9400f give me constantly 200fps? I think its good for price also, it costs somewhere in 150euros and I dont want to spend more tbh

You should go for the 8100 almost as good and cheaper. 2 less cores but you aren’t going to notice it in most settings. 4 cores is enough in 2019 and people saying it isn’t are just wrong. If you’re going to spend more than 150$ just get the 8400 if you can save the money to get it or if you can find it cheap and can overclock the shit out of it the 8350K is a good option.

That’s weird. 9100F used to be more expensive than the 8100. Didn’t check pricing, my bad. Likely due to inventory amounts.

yeah the thing is ryzen is more future proof because if you want to stream play more demanding games than cs ryzen is better and if you can stretch to a 3600 you would be getting an i7 level of performance or around there but its up to you
2019-12-08 19:42
I think I may know why. AMD's new Ryzen CPU's made Intel cut their price big time. Only I guess on older CPU's they did not, maybe because no one thinks of those anymore.

4 cores was a thing 10 years ago men. Right now 8 cores is the place to aim, specially if you don't upgrade the pc so often and you want something that last at least 4 or 5 years.

Erm, you bought Intel men, they change the socket every generation so you have to buy a new motherboard to upgrade to the next. Check your motherboard manufacturers website for a list of compatible CPU's with your model and choose from that. You may or may not need to update the BIOS for some of them.
2019-12-08 14:19

if someone wants to buy intel without HT,he should go for ryzen, lul
2019-12-08 14:53
Hyperthreading is just a fancy name for simultaneous multi threading or SMT which almost all ryzen 3000 cpus have.
2019-12-08 16:06
HT in top intels is the reason intel has an edge over ryzen.
2019-12-08 16:06
Yeah I guess that is why Ryzen kicks intels ass in pretty much every heavily multithreaded application lol. Intel has an edge in clockspeeds. That's it.
2019-12-08 16:13
single core work also gives them an edge
2019-12-08 16:15
That's thanks to the high clock speeds. It has nothing to do with hyperthreading.
2019-12-08 16:24
Nope. It has got to do with latency between ccx:s and l-caches. The new zen2 lineup made a huge improvement on those but its still not as good as on a monolithic die cpu. But its true that ht does not make the difference, and in fact smt is a bit better.
2019-12-09 03:27
No actually single-threaded workloads run better on ryzen due to superior ipc. Turn off the integrated gpu on intel and you'll see that a 3700X kicks the shit out of the 9900K in adobe.
2019-12-09 03:20
pubg, csgo, cod, gta, fortnite, R6 are the games im playing.

get a ryzen 3600, i've been researching for a month and almost done building my first pc, well, i bought most of the parts. The build: Ryzen 5 3600 MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX G. Skill Flare 2x8gb 3200mhz cl14 BeQuiet Pure Power 11 CM 500w Noctua nh u12s-se am4 Only left to buy a Samsung EVO 860 SSD (or maybe 970 evo plus) and a Phanteks P400A Digital Case i've got an old 750ti gpu and will upgrade later

Don't buy noctua men, buy scythe kotetsu mark 2. It costs only 2700 rub and it is much better choice. Also samsungs m.2 has the same tlc type memory just like cheaper analogue. I recommend intel 660p for nvme. Banger for it price. Also better buy MESH case like coolermaster mattrex 55 mesh. Wouldn't recommend bequite psu, mine is giving only 350 stable 12v.
2019-12-08 15:46
I've already got cooler and psu, as i said, i've been researching a lot, the parts i picked were recommended a lot.

Recommended by youtubers who got paid for it. Scythe doing the same for less price + its more silent. This PSU is good. I look at it OEM manufacturer and its FSP. I was thinking that they still uses ENC as their pure power series OEM manufacturer.

With all but screwdriwer(you can buy xiaomi wiha for 1300 and still pay less). WIth 2011/151x/am4. Also everything is metal and has its own backplate. You just cant break it unlike plastic on am4 soket. Thermal paste is ok.
2019-12-08 18:21
Jesus after calling samsungs nvmes bad you recommend 660p LOL... 970 evo is far superior to 660p in every possible way. QCL that 660p uses is horrible with speeds, low endurance and if you do any big files you will choke the SLC cache... 970 evo/pro is prob the best nvme you can possible get.
2019-12-08 19:44
tbh if you're willing to risk it going for an sm961(OEM 960 pro)/pm981(OEM 970 evo) is the best bang/$ nvme ssds ever (tho they don't have any warranties)
2019-12-08 20:16
What? im not saying what he shud buy.. but saying 660p is better than 970 evo is just non sense...

why would you need it for r3600? b450 can handle it even if overclocked.
2019-12-08 17:55
idk man, I just read about it on someones PC build description ''The X570 chipset was selected rather than the B450 chipset in order to bypass any BIOS update issues that would occur when combining a new Ryzen 3000 series (Zen 2) CPU with a B450 chipset. However, you are welcome to explore those options as well, but be forewarned that because it uses an older chipset, this motherboard may require a BIOS update before it will be compatible with the CPU. The manufacturer may have already updated the B450 BIOS before sending it to retailers, but if not, many motherboards cannot be updated without using an older CPU to do so. If the motherboard is not updated, the PC is unlikely to boot at all with the new CPU. In this case, you would need to temporarily use an older CPU to update the motherboard BIOS before using a new CPU with it. The CPUs that could do this update would be the Ryzen 1000 CPUs, Ryzen 2000 APUs, and Ryzen 2000 CPUs. If you stick with the X570 chipset on original part list provided, you will not have to deal with this process.''
2019-12-08 18:49
It's "MAX" version so it can be used out of the box. Even if it was not "MAX", it has flash bio.
2019-12-08 18:55
ah okay thx, I didn't know these details, want to build PC as well and haven't decided on the mobo yet
2019-12-08 18:57

2019-12-08 18:59
thx, I'm thinking about getting ryzen 5 3600 with RTX 2070 Super gpu + this motherboard (B450 MAX) as a core of my build
2019-12-08 19:03
I think MPG motherboards by MSI are considered one of the worst x570 boards in terms of VRM
2019-12-08 18:32
#91 you haven't experienced any issues with BIOS updates with your build? but you're right, b450 seems to be just alright and much cheaper than x570
2019-12-08 18:51
cause I don't have any ryzen cpu to update BIOS if it's required for PC to boot at all, that's why im asking bro
2019-12-08 18:54
bring ur system to a local pc store and ask if they can update ur bios 4 u (shouldn't be too hard or expansive)

unless youre getting i9 9900k intel makes absolutely no sense unless you could upgrade without changing mobo but thats not the case also you should get way more fps with that i5, i have consistent 300 on i5 6600k overclocked to 4.2 conclusion get ryzen 5 3600 (or 2600 if you want something cheaper) you will have more performance and will last you longer

you'll need a new motherboard m8, and also new ram, cause your current motherboard has an lga 1150 socket, only supports up to 4th gen i5 and ddr3 ram. for a full upgrade I'd get a Ryzen 5 3600, B450 motherboard, along with new ddr4 ram.

You need a new mobo and new ram too and maybe a new gpu if you didn't upgrade it from a long time, gpu is the one doing more work than cpu, so... You need to spend $500 at least. If you're on such limited budget, maybe an old am4 board with 3500x and some cheap/mid memories could do the thing for you.

Current intel gen is better than amd current gen for videogames. But yes, 10th gen is gonna have HT in all the series, so it's worth the wait if he doesn't want ryzen or go for the 9th gen i9.
2019-12-08 21:51
You are not wrong, current gen Intel CPU's are better than AMD in gaming, but its really marginally, while AMD CPU usage is much lower. You can get stutters in 9600K while 3600 is completely fine. So we have an almost same gaming performance on both side, with AMD having lower CPU usage (=no stutter), while AMD outclasses Intel in multicore usage. And all of this for cheaper. And I wont even mention Intel's security vulnerabilities. Hopefully Intel will be able to recover from this. (I personally prefer Intel, but damn, AMD is plowing with their current gen)
