"Our study shows that low vitamin B12status atbaseline is an important risk factor for loss of brainvolume in older community-dwelling adults. Thesefindings suggest that plasma vitamin B12status maybe an early marker of brain atrophy and thus a poten-tially important modifiable risk factor for cognitivedecline in the elderly. Larger studies in different pop-ulation settings using sensitive vitamin B12statusmarkers are needed to support these conclusions." But again, than you would have to read the study. Just minding, MAYBE a POSSIBLE FACTOR doesn´t equal causation. By any stretch of the imagination.

yes, obviously the vegetarians have other deficiencies as well, thats why I didnt specify B12 in the thread post. Imagine your reading skills

First you didn´t understood or you don´t care. We are talking about the lack of B12, for which you posted a study which conlusion you clearly! intepreted wrongly. Let´s start with that, before your other non-factual based opinions.

No, the study talks that they had a b12 deficiency (low levels), and that they were vegetarians, and concluded they had highest brain volume loss. The thread article talks about other stuff like fatty acids. Vegetarians do not eat omega3 in EPA/DHA form usually, which is what the brain needs, and the conversion rate from ALA is quite bad in men especially 0-4%

You actually know under which thread you comment? Because the study was done to find out if B12 is a factor for brain deficiency. There is not a word about vegetarians in the study, it was done on elderly people regardless if they are vegetarian or not. The thread article uses the sources wrongly, it inteprets them wrongly, or the sources cannot be generalized, which I described below.

vegetarians tend to have lower B12 levels than omnivores, and vegans on average tend to have the lowest B12 levels.

Such argument is simply absurd. Sure, they were 65+ y.o. involuntary vegetarians. What you say has no merit in anything, certainly no merit in the study you posted yourself.

??? what is it that you are arguing about. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5622783.. b12 deficiency among meat eaters less than 1% among vegans 50-83% It is pretty simple, if you have low levels of b12 it means you dont eat meat enough and dont supplement it either.

You see, you can do it if you want. However, if I read it correctly, there is not a deficiency, it is just the percentage bellow recomended intake, which on itself doesn´t mean deficiency (page 11). Also, why are you talking about vegans, your OP article was talking about vegetarians. So you need at least study which says which levels of B12 deficiency actually !CAUSES! "smaller brain" and a study that says in which percentage of GENERAL vegetarian population are such levels present. Just to remind you, first study in this thread in fact says that it can´t be generalized. Also there was no causation proved, certaily not a linear one. It even says it MIGHT be a FACTOR.

I literally write "(low levels)", and if it causes problems with your health it is obviously a deficiency. Now that we have established that B12 is most likely for those who follow a vegan diet we can come up with more reasons why their brain has shrinkage, which is prewritten to laymen like yourself: psychologytoday.com/us/blog/diagnosis-di..

The study literally says "bellow recommended intake for French people." It even says "inadequacy" NOT deficiency. "if it causes problems with your health it is obviously a deficiency." Great, but the study doesn´t measure deficiency. BTW deficiency might be relevant to other things than "shrinking brain," therefore be bad for your health. So which levels of the B12 vitamine CAUSE a smaller brain? We don´t know, certainly not from what you posted. The only useful information I got after reading this is: " unsupplemented vegan diets pose great danger to brain health." Great. But how many vegans have smaller brains than? Danger to the brain health doesn´t mean smaller brain, certainly. All you need is a relevant measuring of brain volume comparing general population and the population of vegans. But you rather make some causations which have no merit in the stuff you posted. Why do you even care about one of the possible causes of smaller brain volume? All what you looking for is the observation of the actual brain volume, not the possible causes.

lmao you dont even read the links and get stuck on definition that doesnt matter. deficiency [ dih-fish-uhn-see ] SEE SYNONYMS FOR deficiency ON THESAURUS.COM noun, plural de·fi·cien·cies. the state of being deficient; lack; incompleteness; insufficiency. Obviously if you are deficient your levels are inadequate, lower than normal, lacking... etc. Now stop replying to me unless u have something new to say

No, it´s not the same. For example: "Normal values are 75-100 nmol/L (30-40 ng/ml). Vitamin D deficiency is defined if serum hydroxyvitamin D levels are less than 50nmol/L (20 ng/ml), insufficiency as 50-75 nmol/L (20-30 ng/ml)." wma.net/policies-post/wma-statement-on-v.. But the term is not conceptualized in the study so I guess from the context, where it is used in different circumstances. Lower than normal doesn´t mean bad for your health, certainly it doesn´t mean that it is on such level that would make you brain shrink. You might have inssuficent calories intake, but there is big difference if it is by 100 cal from recommended (which is based on general population so the lack of 100 calories doesn´t have any relevence if it is bad for your health, since not every body is the same) or 2000. And you just reacted to one part, sadly that´s often the case. Still, you are yet to prove anything you said.

Literally posted you 2 articles to read that you didnt, so maybe start reading those before claiming I have something to prove. Unfortunately you are, wrong, low levels doest not equal healthy. For example normal testosterone levels for male are 270-1070 ng/dL. But if you are a 20yo with 270ng/dL, which is lower than the average for 85-100yo, you probably have problems. Also your calorie example is just stupid and wrong. 2000calories is nothing, because your unit it is wrong. It is kilocalories or kcal, sometimes written as Cal, never cal. You are off by a thousand. There is no normal calorie intake, it differs so much by weight and activity. You can say average is 2000kcal for a woman

I read them, they just didn´t support you claims, I already summoned why above. Yeh, you are right "probably" - that´s exactly right. You see probably means "somewhere above 50,5%." Being bad for you health is really broad statement. If I don´t sleep for 48 hours it might be bad for might health, but it doesn´t mean any long-term effects, certainly it doesn´t mean my brain will shrink. Which is what you are stating. BTW the kcal example was just an example, to show to the logical process, I didn´t care if the values are right, but I think you understood that, just need to nitpick.

What a poor, bias based article. First, they dissaprove geeting the B vitamine in an artificall form, than, they cite studies that say that the lack of B vitamine is connected to shriking of brain, NOT TAKING INTO AN ACCOUNT T the form (artificall/natural) of the B vitamine. They quote a study done in 1987 on 138!! Indian patients (which regardless the number is statistically not a good sample, since the Indians (same as any other non-random group have specific eating habbits, REGARDLESS if they are vegan or not. The age was not taken into question, the social economic structure of the sample was not observed (one of the main influecing factors for diet) etc.). Finally, NOWHERE was written that vegetarians have smaller brains. Thats just a lie. Futhermore, they are mixing vegetarians and vegans throughout the whole article. Pseudo-science article with 0 validity.

Because u said u know 3 indian languages and spanish, while writing with an US accent. It is quite obvious that the most probable scenario is that you learned spanish at school, and considering you are a kid still you are not very good at it or had the opportunity to actually travel to spain to become fluent in it. Also I didnt base your origin on your dietary practise but your dietary practise based on your origin. You didnt even reveal that you are a vegetarian until after you had told what languages you learned.
