We use this word very loosely nowadays and take it for granted. In your opinion, what does it mean to be free/have freedom?

Nah actually slavery officially ended in 1865 and black people were on trains since the 1850s. but ya know the armenian genocide was only like last year so turkey is quite the country.

2019-12-15 21:53
I accept that America has it's flaws. My point is that every country has a flawed history and that the US gets put into the spotlight so much because it has been such a big world power. For Britain, it was the atrocities they committed when they controlled India. For Russia, it was all of the war crimes they commited as the USSR. And for Turkey, it was the Armenian Genocide. We all live on this planet together and we have to realize that no country is perfect.

2019-12-15 22:03
Really dude? I'm trying not to be toxic here but I guess thats just the way it goes. 1.5 million Armenians were rounded up and murdered bu the ottomans(now turks) in the 20th century. When native Americans died in America, it was by the British and French colonists that were trying to enlarge territory for their respective parent nation. Even then 70-80 percent of all deaths of native americans were due to diseases that their immune systems could not protect them from that had been accidenally carried over the atlantic from europe.

first of all your country is been made by british/france/spain ( basicly eu) so you wiped almost all native americans from the planet second of all turkey said repeadly to everyone that we have opened our archives let the armenian side open their archives and let the independent researches do their job and we will accept the outcome but the armenian side dont cooperate becouse they are scared that the outcome would favour turkey. erdogan said this again at the last meeting with trump go check it out
2019-12-15 22:41
??? The united states are a british colony that revolted and created their own country. Frenchmen killed all the northern people then formed canada. Spain and portugal went south and mudered the Aztecs and the Incas. Is it really our fault that the north american indians were not prepared for diseases that came with the settlers? Also, this all happened began in the 15th century, 500 years before turkey decided to kill a ton of people. The world has changed, but turkey is still bloodthirsty. Sort of like the nazis.

how many people did you kill in the middle east for oil? and still killing. and you dare to call us bloodthirsty xDDDD
2019-12-16 00:04
What do you mean dare? We aren't killing anyone for oil. We are helping Saudi Arabia for oil, but a lot of people don't support it and we are stopping it. Other than that, we are only fighting the ISIS and the Taliban in the Middle East. Turkey has experience fighting there as well (apparently in Syria), but I am too lazy to actually look into it. If you know, can you pls explain whats happening there.

Well turkey is basicly cleaning his borders from terrorists groups that you americans trained and weaponized , there has been numerous attacks from the syrian border to Turkey so we had to take them out and bring back around 1 million refugees to these places

Sure for a straight, white protestant person it mustve been heaven. But you gotta realize that those people make only a part of the entire population. And the people who didnt fit theese werent treated the best

Being able to think, say and act like I want without the authorities telling what goes apart from laws put in place to protect other and my self from doing stupid shit + of course not being allowed to put my freedom of that of others. In other words I am fine we have laws that mandate how fast one drives, that one it to use a seat belt... in return I can then expect other to follow the same rules which frees me from having to fear to be in traffic.

2019-12-15 19:07
In general, no. Here on hltv forums many of them are, not sure why they act like they do - maybe it is so that the once here are spoiled brats.
2019-12-15 20:02
Shouldn’t you have the option of whether or not you would like to wear your seatbelt?
2019-12-15 19:08
That one is borderline, but since it is a minor thing and it is important for safety I'd say no. If we lived in a place where everyone paid for their own health care, social security and all then maybe, but as we do not I see it a part of the deal that we get all that.

You can't even do what you want with your own body, Murdering people has nothing to do with freedom imo and people who wants to murder other people will do so regardless of what the law says
2019-12-15 19:18
What do you want to do with your body you can't because its illegal?

2019-12-15 19:23
Being free from corporate tyranny. Nowadays they hold more power than the state.
2019-12-15 19:11
And what makes you think that it will be better if it is otherwise? Just look at Russia
2019-12-15 19:15
We need to make sure the state hold less power, because special interests always take advantage of a powerful state and end up controlling it.
2019-12-15 19:25
So you are kind of a Libertarian?
2019-12-15 19:33
Not really, but I don't like when government gets more power. It always fucks things up. I'm fine with public services, and social safety nets. But government overreach can be blamed for corporate corruption many times. Just look at ISP's in the US, massive government overreach and the internet companies just keep bribing officials to keep their monopolies.

hahahahaha, Hi lil buddy. Freedom is having the option to chase your goal within your individual sovereignty without persecution from the centralized power that has a monopoly on use of force, aka, the state. Your following of your goal, so long as you're not violating a third person's individual soverignty, should not be infringed upon. This does indeed mean that so long as it only affects YOU, you get to do whatever you without LEGAL repercussions. The moment your persecution for your dreams violate's another individual's life, private property or individual sovereignty, that's when an authority force is greenlit to tramp down on your freedom. The government is the biggest threat to each individual's freedom.
2019-12-15 19:39
How is the government the biggest threat?
2019-12-15 19:47
Because the government is a centralized force that has a monopoly on the use of force. Imagine if i decide that if you say that the holocaust didn't happen, im gonna lock you up in a cell with rapists, robbers, killers, etc. I...ME!...you see how literally cringe this sounds??? Well that's law in Germany, that is what the government does, the government has the power to do nepharious things punishment free, and sadly through culture...idiotic masses get brainwashed into thinking this is not only okay, but it's GOOD, this is why Germans dont protest the hate speech laws...they celebrate them. You see, no private corporation would ever go 4...7...14....23 trillion dollars into debt, i used those specific numbers because that's the public debt of France, UK, China and U.S. Just think of all the drugs that are legal and illegal in the U.S , NONE of them should be illegal, yet the only legal ones are the ones that the average idiot doesn't even know they're drugs...as for the others well it doesn't matter if you're consuming drugs alone in your private property...if you get caught its jail. I could go on and on and on and on.
2019-12-15 19:52
A lot of drugs are bad
2019-12-15 20:22

I have freedom when the authority does not. Once the authority is able to extend or do anything without consequence, I don't have freedom. As long as there is a line the authority cannot cross, I have freedom. The limitation shouldn't be on me, the limitation should be on the authority. Idk something like that
2019-12-15 21:32
i am free as far as my freedom doesn't interrupt someone else's freedom and i expect the same from them that's where the border is ironic right, freedom with borders
