X7 is widely considered as one of the ugliest car BMW ever produced. X6 is something like shemale, same as for example grandcoupe (super UGLY). Exteriorwise BMW is really going nowhere with last few models, mercedes is slowly gaining ground and new audi RS models are just mean and great looking. As a package i would like to buy merc, for pure fun prolly some bmw (or merc). Audi is for str8 line heroes or for people who dont care about cars and want better VW for daily use.

overall mercedes all the way. a smart guy told bmw has better engine but mercedes has better car gear. in terms of design i prefer mercedes, followed by bmw and audi. but mercedes is my all-time favorite.

What's your research sample, 2 of your friends? I agree that Mercedes is better overall as a manufacturer because they produce so many different types of car, also trucks, buses and they have dominated F1 for few years. Moreover, they have very solid engines. But you said that placing bmw suv over merc suv is bullshit, but it was bmw which made first SUV Coupe (X6) and have the most luxury one (X7). And BMW has offered 2 electric vehicles for 6 years. So overall Mercedes > BMW, I can't disagree but it isn't much better and Merc loses in some categories.

BMW over any Mercedes (taste and experience) I've a BMW E39 Sedan (cheap fun car for modding etc.), BMW F36 (full M sport), Opel Ampera (skip traffic taxes to work) and a Mercedes E class wagon. My 3 other cars exceeds the Benz imo. and whenever something is faulty, it costs up to 10x to fix. It's such a high cost to own it for little driving quality (insurance, maintenance, fixes etc). BMW's 50/50 weight distribution ideology also favor them much more places with for example a lot of snow/ice/gravel. Which fits the Nordic region perfectly.

on 6+ hour drives I can appreciate an auto with cruise control unless it's just highway. I never take stops if not needed so my legs might get stiff/cramp. Drove a 1400km tour recently with 2 stops (1 for refuel and 1 for refuel & a beer), Lets just say I broke enough laws to lose my license in all 3 countries I drove through xD

Longest I have done is 9 hours and I don't do that often at all or really plan on it anytime soon haha. My buddy did a trip to Texas that was a 12 hour drive, and drove back without resting another 12 hours and fell asleep 3 miles from his house and tour out his wheel and rim after buying his new car.
