Uhhh over a million animals? It's over 500 million dude. And koalas luckily are not yet functionally extinct, although they are heading that way and have been close in the past. It really is an absolute shitshow
2020-01-06 12:13
Didn't your prime minister said some time ago that they don't need help?

it really is, and whats worse is that the government is actively trying to spin the narrative to help push their climate change denying bullshit WHILE its happening
2020-01-08 23:25
is it getting any better?
2020-01-09 15:01
Hmm probably to make sure untrained people don't take any risk and don't mess with the global organisation.

people volunteering know they wont be on a firefront atleast this fire season, but surely they would need more support staff, helping evacuee's , helping ferry fire fighters to and from areas, helping provide food and water to responders etc.

Isn't it because the preemptive burning has been stopped?

many factors, thats a big one, but this is also the hottest summer we've EVER had, and maybe the driest as well
2020-01-06 12:19
I've been reading some stuff from some professor who said it's mostly because of that, and the dried out Eucalyptus leaves that are highly flammable, and that climate change was probably the lowest involved factor. The guys research said something about the "nature friendly" policy of not preemptively burning these leaves and bushes from the earlier 2000s being one of the main causes for this stuff. Will look it up later, at office now, but it seemed pretty legit. On another note; what can we as western countries actually do against climate change when the biggest polluters are the countries who simply do not and will not care, e.g. China, India, Pakistan etc? I feel like whatever we're doing in the western world has little to no effect on the situation since the worst offenders are less developed countries with regimes that don't give a flying fuck.

USA is one of the highest polluters per capita, they can def make a difference, but you're right. China better start giving a shit cuz they're fucking up the world

Think the problem lies too deep there with all the corporate lobbyists pulling the strings there, US Presidents all end up following the same agenda, just wording it differently. Keep in mind, everyones oh so beloved Obama did fuck all for climate change either.

true, us is a bit fucky. Although i disagree with bernie on a lot, I think he'd do a lot of good for that sort of thing. But he wants to ban nuclear power >:(

Yep, agreed. But the Dems rather try to push dementing pedophiles like Biden into office over giving Bernie a shot.

they dont have enough time to safely do controlled burning in winter cause our winters are shorter and less rainy, thanks to climate change, there never has been any nature friendly policies stopping the RFS from controlled burning, thats a myth.
2020-01-06 14:54
The hottest weather doesn't cause fires, someone did it, perhaps planned by CIA or globalists
2020-01-06 12:52
To play devil's advocate, people are not arguing that climate change is fake, they are arguing that man made climate change is fake or that it's impact on climate change is not as big as people say

Compare human carbon output and temperature over the last 100,000 years, pretty obvious what's happening.

To be fair to them, according to scientists the end of the world should have been already and all these false predictions fuel them in their beliefs

there were def some false predictions, but it wasnt the scientists predicting the end of the world. The world isnt gonna end because of climate change, but many animals will die and many people will lose their homes, especially the poor

ScoMo doesn't know shit
2020-01-06 12:25
As an australian you can´t really play the climate change card. Do you know Australias fossil fuel use per capita? Look it up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_.. And your coal industry? I don´t know how far you are with solar panel industry, best place in the world for that. Still - a tragedy and I feel sorry for you

Not really.. But I have no idea why the Australian gouverment havent asked for any help.. The rest of the world could have sent help and put out the fires weeks ago..

the only thing thats true is that ScoMo didn't ask other countries for help. Saying taht the fires could have been put out weeks ago is insanely uninformed and downright stupid. The fires are all across the country, thousands of kilometres of land to cover, and the bushfire season has barely even started, you can't just put out fires and then its done, thats not how it works. We get fires every year and they're getting worse and worse, and it can't simply be fixed by asking for help or spending more money, and it certainly couldn't have been put out weeks ago
2020-01-06 12:48
But giving money to help firefighters maybe? i agree that it would not have been put out weeks ago, but giving money to the victims, firefighters or animals, certanly would make it a bit better
2020-01-06 12:51
You did not ask for help - You dont know.
2020-01-06 14:04
New fires are starting every day. Asking for assistance will definitely help the situation but will 100% not stop it right away. One of the main problems was the government cutting the funding to fire services

sorry, our prime minister was on holidays when the fires couldve had a chance to be contained, shit got out of hand with a BBC news bulletin and the bad publicity forced him to cut his family holiday short by an entire day. By the time he got around to asking for help the fire had already fucked up something like 7-8m hectares and only in the last few days has it really got the international exposure and had people raising funds world wide
2020-01-06 12:52

I mean yeah, the fires are fucked and all the devastation caused is just terrible. I strongly believe everyone and everything affected and the country as a whole can bounce back. One good dose of rain and the fires will ease off (but it's been dry as fuck) and everything will come back into order. Australia has had major fires like this before, look it up or watch Isaac Butterfield's video on it. Australia is a country full of big unit cunts so we'll be fine. Unless everything I've said is wrong and my house burns down :(
2020-01-06 12:28
.6% of the country/continent of Australia has burned
2020-01-06 13:12
Who cares. If they worked on fire fighting, then maybe they would be fine. Men on the ground can't fight wild fires. They need better tech and also who cares about the Koala’s! Worthless animals that do nothing for earth. They are so stupid they adapted and eat a poison tree. They remind me of a certain race in the world but can't say which one or be called a racist. The kangaroos are just giant rats! F them. Australia hit the jackpot with these fires.
