The s1mple Curse
 |
Canada heliKOBE_Fryant
s1mple deserves #1 for best CSGO pro to stream Fortnite. Next step for s1mple would be to win a major with his highly skilled and inefficiently underperforming team... Let's get a little history lesson done on s0mple, shall we? January 2nd, 2016: s1mple joins Team Liquid and moves to the United States. April, 2016: Team Liquid achieves 3-4th @ MLG Columbus. July, 2016: Team Liquid achieves 2nd @ MLG Cologne s1mple leaves, Liquid has a mediocre 2017. 2018-2019: Team Liquid bounces back and asserts #1 status at one point. Facts? Had s1mple stayed with Liquid and got along with EliGE through 2017, they would PROLLY have won Krakow with a year more to develop together - since they were only on an incline in performance over the 7 months he spent with the org. What a shame. I have no sympathy for him. Opinions?

He can do whatever he wants
2020-01-21 07:58
And that's why he will never win a major and there's no sympathy to be had... NaVi achieved a 2nd (Cluj Napoca 2015) and 3rd-4th (Columbus 2016) prior to him joining them. They've mimicked this since then and look what happened? 3.5 years later and still no major. Meanwhile he achieved 2 major top finishes in 7 months with Liquid.
2020-01-21 08:01
You are as dumb and ignorant as you possibly can get. NaVi lost in grand finals in Columbus, this they were 2nd there. And then they got knocked out in Cologne by TL with s1mple in quarters
2020-01-21 08:05
I know. NaVi before s1mple achieved a 2nd and 3rd-4th Major finish. That's my point... During those majors, s1mple was on Flips1d3 Tactics (Cluj-Napoca) & Liquid (Columbus). Since he joined Na'Vi (after abandoning Liquid's speedy successes), they've taken 2nd and 3rd-4th at two other majors... Over 3.5 years as opposed to the 7 months he played with Liquid and garnered the same success in FAR less time. My point is at the rate they were performing in 2016, had he stayed in 2017-19, they'd have dominated the scene. He cost himself Major success. Pun intended.
2020-01-21 08:10
You said Navi achieved 3rd-4th in Columbus
2020-01-21 08:34
All my fact-checking is being done via phone at work rn. One written error did not negate my point. In fact, it only propels it that much forward. Two back-to-back finals without s1mple. Navi had two back-to-back 2nd at majors before s1mple, and has since only nearly replicated that in 3.5 years in an inconsistent manner. The original point still remains. They had garnered even greater success before him and he had his shot at that success with Liquid and has since squandered it. Ty, friend.

No problem. My comment wasnt an argument, it was just to correct you

Is anything I said inaccurate? A major 3rd-4th & 2nd finish in 7 months with 1 org. He joins another and gets 3rd-4th & 2nd Major finishes in 3.5 years... Genius.

s1mple would never fit in the "new" Liquid, he is too much of a ego player and doesnt fit in a team build on teamplay
2020-01-21 08:14
New liquid wasn’t built until 2018. 2017 was an optimal year for the 2016 Liquid roster to aim for a major. PGL Krakow in particular was up for grabs. It’s hard to know what a 2018/19 Liquid would look like with s1mple. Stew and him most likely wouldn’t get along - however Stew may never have had the opportunity should he have stayed. The point I’m making is NaVi achieved top success before s1mple joined them. At the same time they made SF/F finishes back-to-back, s1mple was beginning his tenure with Liquid. Then in back-to-back majors, Liquid achieved SF/F finishes. s1mple’s abrupt departure ruined their chances of continued development before Atlanta 2017 - where over the course of the 5 preceding months together, they could have had a continued running shot at the major. Not only did he forsaken Liquid, he also had forsaken himself because in the 3.5 years since August, 2016, he’s achieved the same success in majors that he did in 6 months (so 1/7th the time) he did with Liquid. And that said, the success with NaVi was spread out and inconsistent. Liquid had it made in 2016 with their roster. 2017 would have been an incredible year for them. All because he was too much of a prima donna.
2020-01-21 08:32
From mediocre to still not winning a major team(liquid), nothing changes, just csgo scene deficit, team shuffles all the time, sorry, but you're wrong.
2020-01-21 08:45
I never said Liquid would have won a major without s1mple. I’m saying they would have with him. In particular, during 2017. He thought he was going to get more success with NaVi. NaVi was more successful before s1mple. Such as back-to-back Major finals. Liquid achieved back-to-back major SF/F with s1mple. There’s more substantiating evidence on where they were headed then based on their success at the time than to think other teams had something to do with it. Going to the team he thought would win majors based on their prior success before him to only underperforming in that regard has proven to be the s1mple curse. He’ll never win a major. In what way is this statistically incorrect? CSGO was already in its 4th year in 2016. Orgs and teams were established. 2015 was the first real year where money made its way into the scene to truly support full-time gaming in CS. He had to have seen where it was going.

2020-01-21 09:06
To summarize: NaVi back-to-back major Finals @ Cluj-Napoca 2015 & Columbus 2016, pre-s1mple days. S1mple joins Liquid in Jan, 2016. They achieve 3-4 and 2nd finishes at back-to-back majors — which included this pre-s1mple NaVi team. S1mple leaves the best NA org (bound for 2017 success) at the time and joins NaVi in hopes he can push them over the top. He fails to do so. In fact, they fail collectively to repeat their prior success in the 3.5 years he’s been with them. The s1mple curse: Never win a major. He had his chance.

I think saying Liquid would win 2017 Major with s1mple is a bit bold, but if he stayed there, they would probably have a more successful year with fairly consistent top 4 placements at big events. The same likely goes for Na'Vi - the team did not have what was needed to win a Major at the time, but while it suffered from the common CIS / Eastern European issues, it was not to a point where they'd be as likely to lose to a Nr. 21 team as to win against Nr.1. I'd not go as far as to say that s1mple ruined Na'Vi, but he certainly did not help it. The team is terribly inconsistent and the relations between players, which were already rocky before he came, seem to be even worse. Is it all his fault? No. Certainly, the other players had a hand and the org management probably did not help things either, but denying he had a hand in Na'Vi's decline is simply put - dumb. If s1mple wants to win a major, either the org and their system have to be changed, or he has to leave for a different org. inb4 s1mple hater - I don't hate him at all. I just don't think the org did well in managing his talent and skills and curbing the nastier bits of his behaviour. Either they should have worked hard in moulding him into a strong team player, or they should have built a team around him like Vitality did with ZyWoo, not leave it stuck in this weird limbo somewhere in between both options where the team is currently. It clearly is not working, it makes him play like shit at times, and it makes other players play like shit as well. Perhaps b1ad3 can fix the team given time, but as it stands right now, Na'Vi have very little chance of winning any big event, much less a Major, and I say this as their long time fan.

You keep saying 3,5 years and still no major. Elige has been playing for liquid for 5 years then why don't they have a major?
2020-01-21 16:59
It's not about EliGE. It's about s1mple and his idiotic decision to move to NaVi thinking it'd bring him glory. If anything, he achieved far greater success in a literal fraction of the time with Liquid than he has achieved in coming close on half a decade with NaVi. It was a poor decision and in fact, NaVi have only been to 1 major final with s1mple as opposed to having been to 2 major finals prior to his acquisition. So, in fact, they haven't been as successful with him as they were prior to him. The s1mple Curse. No majors. Yet his fan base supports his idiocy. (: He's had ample time to make them into what Jason Lake would describe as... "A juggernaut." Which, they aren't. That said, Liquid ended up achieving higher status in successes than NaVi has - post-s1mple era, after a year-long rebuild. So, really, with all the opportunity s1mple has had, he hasn't quite achieved what should be expected. At least with Markeloff, NaVi won a Major (in 1.6): liquipedia.net/counterstrike/Intel_Extre.. This WAS the 1.6 version of CSGO Majors.
2020-01-22 07:52
So you want a player to stay in an uncomfortable position? Elige said it was him or s1mple. Thoorin has brought this story up many times.
2020-01-22 07:55
s1mple’s personality is another reason why he’s not the GOAT and never will be. Having a professional attitude and working as a team achieves great things — like Liquid. He could have been a part of that and even enhanced their climb years prior to their successes if he wasn’t a selfish player and selfish individual in general. And that’s the s1mple everybody loves... No majors, no GOAT. And to be fair, we all know the older you get, the harder it is to maintain form and achieve those successes. He squandered his greatest opportunity because of his own idiocy.
2020-01-22 08:01
Navi should have had equal opportunity as Liquid to be a contender if managed properly. Liquid found the young talented and breaded it quick while making everyone comfortable. Navi let Zeus decide their roster... You really think s1mple should have had to play an extra year with. 8ward?
2020-01-22 08:12
I mean, tbh, NaVi has forged championship teams in CS history. They’re not newbs at success. Zeus won a major with Gambit — in what should have been Liquid’s best opportunity if they continued in form from 2016 until summer, 2017. If you’re the star player and you’re not directly involved in the running process of the team, then that’s on you. He was getting paid and that’s all that seems to matter to s1mple. Hence why he streams so often compared to other top pros. He’s in it for the dough, not the championships. That’s why he’s not a champion. That mentality. coldzera almost never streams. And he was Top1 two consecutive years in a row. During that time he was practicing himself and with his team up to 12 hours a day. And it paid off. He not only Top 1’d twice in a row, he also won two majors. S1mple doesn’t put in the effort and it’s clear. Start streaming Fortnite when you’ve won a major with NaVi. Then reward yourself. The fact people think he’s a GOAT astounds me. Really, it does. He should be spending more time putting in aim training, team tactics, and demo reviews of primary opponents, than messing around in FPL flaming teammates and maybe he’ll win some championships and earn the prestige many “think” he deserves.
2020-01-22 08:28
He streams CS tho while those pros are messing with their bros or out getting dinner. "Next time I'd like to win the tournament not just the MVP" I guess he just said that for no reason. Also is not as if he isnt known to be dedicated, his hours show it, just check his profile. Navi have 2 of the top 10 performing players. Their problems are a young IGL and ineffective AWPer, nothing else. Hell they almost beat Liquid the first tournament they had with their new roster. "Then reward yourself" Why are you acting as if you know what the best regiment for him is. So you havent rested at all in school, you got straight As, then rested. At your current occupation your ALWAYS looking to move up? Your expectations are dumb a d unrealistic. What actual info do you have that he doesnt put in the work? I mean his play shows it, how deep his muscle memory is, how versatile his peeks are, etc.
2020-01-22 09:28
I don't know much about liquid before 2018 but just imagine if s1mple played instead of stewie2k. I think having a great awper & clutcher would give them a great chance vs Astralis.
2020-01-22 08:04
Liquid changed 2more players to way better
2020-01-22 08:04
Do you have any problems with person wanting to play in his home country?
2020-01-22 09:33
Last I checked, pal, s1mple is the only Ukrainian player on Na'Vi. If you're more concerned with staying home and sucking on mom's tit as opposed to winning Majors, then he's not really the GOAT - is he? There's 3 Russians and a Slovakian. Atleast when Markeloff was winning tournaments with NaVi, it was 5 Ukrainian players. He is the only Ukrainian on Na'Vi and he was the only Ukrainian on Liquid, lol. Atleast with Liquid, he was making consistent results. His tenure on Na'Vi over 3.5 years has been inconsistent at best. Individual performance doesn't win tournaments - proper compositions do. Something Liquid proved they had and worked for them for the 1st half of 2016. If people want to call this kid the GOAT, perhaps he should win some majors.
2020-01-23 02:43
What are you saying man? In 2018 there was 3 Ukrainians in Na'Vi including him, and they were top tier team and were beating everyone except Astralis. Also, no matter the flag, Na'Vi is Ukrainian organisation, and most of the time they have bootcamps in Kyiv. Also sucking on mom's tit has nothing to do with a will to stay in your home country. Liquid were dogshit before Simple, they were good when Simple was there, and they turned into dogshit when he left. And only 3 years later Liquid managed to become top team. Also it's not certain that they would be top tier team if he stayed there.. Idk man, your arguments are invalid.
2020-01-23 08:48
The problem is his personality, he is a beast but if it's true what was leaked about his comms at starseries he is still tilting and unprofessional ingame. That's the difference between ZywOo and s1mple and in general the reason why Astralis is the best team in the world. They are just more professional than any other team, even though they are not the greatest individually
2020-01-22 17:38
Yet all these mouth-breathing idiots are calling him the GOAT. What has he done for anyone but himself?? IF he had stayed with Liquid, he'd have eventually won a major with them. He let his own personality cloud his focus and he put himself at odds with the second best player on his squad. Even then, they STILL performed at top tier - even with dissension. Imagine s1mple and EliGE having been buds? The opportunities woulda been limitless. C9 definitely wouldn't have won that major, lol.
