I mean I did so yes? Swedish, Norwegian and English. (might be cheating as Swedish and Norwegian is pretty similar)

How is it cheating to learn your own language? My parents speak two different languages? My own isn't one but I speak Swedish mainly.

Well I think that when you acquire new words of your native language that you dont know the meaning of, plus you ameliorate your grammar, I dont think it matters that it is your native language.
2020-01-21 10:51
so - what you mean by "learning three languages at once" is basically improving your own, maybe improving english and something else?

Well I was asking if the progress will be any good in all of these languages when you learn three at once. It doesnt matter which language it is.
2020-01-21 10:55
yes it does matter. learning three new languages from scratch is vastly different from improving 2 you already know and learning a third one

Ameliorate - implies making more tolerable or acceptable conditions that are hard to endure. For example financial situation. Good luck improving with your ignorant attitude. Funny is if I had British flag you'd suck this info in without questions.

Yes improve something but only from shitty into good conditions. Saying you ameliorate your Russian implies you can barely speak your own language which is not the case is it? That was my point. You can use it and people will understand you but there are just more suitable words for it.

There isnt anything about 'shitty' conditions. There is merely the 'improve something' meaning stated, and I think that I remember also 'improve something bad' meaning in some other dictionary. My personal opinion was that my language skills in these languages are pretty bad, therefore I wanted to improve them from bad to good.

From dictionary: When is it better to use "ameliorate"? If a situation is bad, "ameliorate" indicates that the conditions have been made more tolerable. Thus, one might refer to drugs that ameliorate the side effects of chemotherapy; a loss of wages ameliorated by unemployment benefits; or a harsh law ameliorated by special exceptions. "Improve" and "better" apply when what is being made better can be good or bad (as in "the weather improved" and "she bettered her lot in life"), and they should certainly be chosen over "ameliorate" when something good is getting better still ("he improved his successful program"; "she bettered her impressive scores"). So if your existence literally suffers from language level, then u can use ameliorate. But if it's ok and you just want to learn sth new then - better, improve, etc is more suitable.

IQ is only the speed at which you learn, and the only thing in languages that is somehow connected with intelligence would be grasping grammar concepts and applying them.
2020-01-21 15:25
"the only" lmao grammar is like the basis of any language that you can't be dispensed with also, you always have to think about it to deliver the stuff you memorized

Yea, the speed at which you learn, but even dumb people can memorize a lot of things. Also a lot of smart people have terrible memories. So there is no guarantee that the informations will stay in their heads for long/longer than dumber people. IQ is also logical thinking, it will more help you to understand complex topics and to solve problems.

Good man, English is the most retarded language.
2020-01-21 12:29
+1 spelling is a disaster I think the world needs Esperanto 2.0
2020-01-21 12:36
rather not good idea, it depends to what level of proficiency do you aim b2/c1/c2 ? if you want to master it c2 - well good look luck with 3 ... that's thought even for 1 if you want to just scratch the surface - doable I learnt python in November, but I switch to JavaScript in December and January and I don't the remeber the syntax of python anymore ... I guess after few day I will catch up very fast, but I'm not able to switch between those in a matter of second, becasue I haven't master any of them also I don't know how long I learn english 10 years+ and I still have troubles with spelling and grammar I never cared about it - it doesn't appeal to my mind naturally despite of high iq 120+ therefore personal abilites matters ... anyway good luck

I won an argument against a guy here about the meaning of a word. How am I clueless?
2020-01-21 14:26
nah it's great analogy, in programming without the syntax and knowing functions you can wirte shit man logic behind it might be the same just like in real languages logic is the same - to express your thouths and feelings but the syntax is different and that makes all the difference
2020-01-21 13:18
Syntax and functions are a matter of a 10 seconds google research for a new programming language, which you want to master. Saying smth in a real language is not a matter of seconds, even with the help of internet. Trust me bro, this analogy is shit. I'd be a true awesome polyglot if I'd be able to master a real language as fast as a programming language
2020-01-21 13:24
what programming languages did you master? nah, it's the same view words as functions what this fucntion does? and look how many functions you need to know 10,000 to 50,000 + obviously that's not quick to make
2020-01-21 13:32
What the f**k are you talking about... 10,000 to 50,000 functions....? :D Please be serious. I master those languages: C, C++, C#.NET, VB.NET, SQL, PL/SQL, Uniface, Assembler, Java, Android and I have decent knowledge in php, javascript, html and css.
2020-01-21 14:08
that is how many words native speakers knows ... and that's a low number the meaning of it and context where and when to use it as you can see things are getting very complex easily nice are you senior developer? how much money you make with all this skills?
2020-01-21 14:39
I agree that there are as many words as you said but it's not really the case in programming languages. Furthermore, nowadays, we have auto-completion so we don't need to know every word by heart. Senior software developer indeed. The point is that I can't use all the languages in one single job. No one uses both C# and Java for instance. Assembler is not really used anymore, ... At the moment, I'm into C#.VB.NET, SQL, Uniface mainly. I have a decent wage, can't complain but I'm looking for taking it to the next level.

Can you try to solve some? and tell me how it went?
2020-01-22 11:16
Well, that's cool to learn I guess. I took an exercise tagged as Hard. I made it in around 5 minutes: Runtime: 4 ms, faster than 64.32% of C++ online submissions for First Missing Positive. Memory Usage: 8.6 MB, less than 92.00% of C++ online submissions for First Missing Positive.

Depends on the time you can spend on. If you work a fulltime job, I definitively believe it's not possible or it will take you ages to reach your goal. Take one language at a time, you'll avoid the time where you feel bad because you know a lot of things but can't communicate properly in any of those three languages.

2020-01-21 14:14
You can do it, but learning one at a time will be faster. I was in the same situation as you. But I'll learn one at a time. I started with French, then I'll learn Spanish and the third idk.

Just learn English, its the superior language and anyone not speaking it is at a disadvantage in the world, nobody cares about any other language especially Danish

It depends which area of the world do you mean. There are areas where English is totally useless.
2020-01-21 15:33
Name some? i bet the reason English is useless is because you're talking about 3rd world countries nobody cares about. Civilised people speak English, everyone else is a savage and uneducated

Why should natives change to English just because of you? If you are going to move to a country, learn their language.
2020-01-22 10:35
I demand respect, my superiority entitles me to speak English anywhere, i look down on people who cannot speak English and kind of pity them, say hi to Lord Putin for me, he's doing fantastic job taking over the USA
2020-01-22 10:39
I can teach you danish, just say something that doesn't make sense and then throw in some "fuck" and "fucking" between the words
2020-01-21 15:43
Wow, a Danish person who actually speaks the truth, this is almost like a miracle for me, i never thought i would witness this in my life, i think you pretend to be Danish LUL
2020-01-22 10:36

At the same time? I don't think it's possible or at least needs huge effort.
2020-01-22 10:41
Not unless you plan to spend several hours every day learning and practicing. Edit. nvm I read the thread, by looking at your posts I would say it's definitely not possible for you
