intermittent fasting ?
Brunei Local_janitor
does it actually work? So for example if I eat tasty stuff like ice cream and burgers but with 16:8 intermittent fasting implemented, will I still lose weight?

Stupid question. You lose weight if you consume less calories than you use per day. No matter how you time your meals.
2020-01-21 19:55
Flat earth became a religion Religion and belief is all fine and respected, but this is just plain stupidity, I'm sorry. Next they'll be saying that "Alien's truly did invade the Earth!" and that "The Illuminati controls the world!" etc... It's dumbfounded hogwash and not to be contributed by that of any religion whatsoever

You still get a calorie deficit with fasting but it's better than a simple calorie deficit because theres a smaller percentage of muscle loss than a simple calorie deficit

You need to eat a bit less than your body needs and also make sure that you get all the nutrients. And then you will start loosing weight. Cuz if you "fast" in a way that you eat 5 borgars during the period when you are allowed to eat. Then there is no point. Also partial malnutrition or reduction in eating habits works decently well too.

Depends on how much you eat. Intermittent fasting is basically just cutting your calorie consumption down. If we make it real basic and say you eat 3 meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. All 600 calories then you're eating 1800 calories a day. Eating from 11-7 on intermittent fasting would cut out breakfast. Reducing your caloric intake by 600. But if eat your breakfast at 11, and still have all 3 meals, then you're still eating the same calories. You might lose some minor weight due to the longer fasting period, but it'd be barely anything.
2020-01-21 19:48
First real answer that's actually correct. Except for the last question which isn't proven in any way.

Last question? If you mean my statement about extended fasting periods, it will inevitably lead to minor weight loss because short term fasting up to I think 48 or 72 hours increases your metabolism. Provided your eating the same calories inside a smaller window of time, you'd still lose a minor amount of weight from the larger window of fasting. To be fair, that weight loss would be short lived though. Basic metabolism studies have proven it.

Correct.

I think it was my fault for not clarifying it well enough for tubewoody. I just wanted to let OP know in a quick enough fashion that it would be a negligible change if he half asses it. Also nice to see you again lol. I seem to run into you on a lot of fitness, health and diet related threads aha. A pleasant change in comments compared to the usual trolls or idiots here.
2020-01-22 10:31
Thank you. :-) It has been my hobby for the last 9-10 years, I do like to learn, study and experiment with all of this. Very interesting topics, also useful and helpful IRL. :-)
2020-01-22 10:59
I would be glad if you had any randomized study showing an increased fat loss in an IF group compared to a "3 meals per day group", given that they eat the same exact amount of calories per day. I sure can't find any.
2020-01-22 11:35
2020-01-22 12:17
That's not what I asked for. For almost any type of diet or eating pattern you can point at certian improved parameters like oxidative stress or insulin sensitivity. If you look at the weight-loss paragraph they even state that "A large review of 40 studies found that IF is effective for weight loss with a typical 7-11 pound loss over 10 weeks but it’s not superior to other dietary methods".
2020-01-22 12:23
Read the whole article carefully, there is at least 3 research which will ask your question.
2020-01-22 12:25
What do you mean? If there's anywhere in that article that says IF can make you lose weight without any caloric restriction, then link me the article they're referencing to. I can't find that anywhere.
2020-01-22 12:27
You don't need to find it "anywhere". #62
2020-01-22 12:30
As I've said, nowhere in that "blog post" does it say that you can lose weight with IF without a caloric restriction. In fact it actually says that you need less calories to lose weight even with IF
2020-01-22 12:32
You're asking about different things every time. Let me remember, your initial question was: > #59 > I would be glad if you had any randomized study showing an increased fat loss in an IF group compared to a "3 meals per day group", given that they eat the same exact amount of calories per day. hltv.org/forums/threads/2228691/intermit.. Read the article I linked carefully, there is at least 3 research which will ask your question. If you can't find the answer, I can't help you. Have a good day. :-)
2020-01-22 12:36
If you think that's stated anywhere then you're misintepreting the data. If it's so obvious to you where your claims are backed why don't you link to the article he's referencing? Or if you don't understand how to do that can you at least copy paste one of the segments where you think its said
2020-01-22 12:39
It's obvious for me and not obvious for you because: #31
2020-01-22 12:41
ok, obviously too immature to keep a discussion without name calling as soon as someone challenges your world view. You started with a claim that you still haven't been able to back up.
2020-01-22 12:45
I don't see any point in talking seriously with the person who makes such claims as: "The only way IF works is by restricting calories". 😀
2020-01-22 12:50
To quote your article: "A large review of 40 studies found that IF is effective for weight loss with a typical 7-11 pound loss over 10 weeks but it’s not superior to other dietary methods[xxvi]" Are you seriously saying that you can lose weight while having daily caloric surplus?
2020-01-22 12:56
#76 It seems you yourself don't understand what you're asking exactly... "Fat loss" and "weight loss" aren't the same thing.
2020-01-22 13:02
You can listen to what layne norton has to say youtube.com/watch?v=l272mz5j0zE Probably the only scientifically accurate fitness person on youtube, the dude's got a phD after all.
2020-01-22 12:25
Sure, I can but I don't need that. :-)
2020-01-22 12:28
I thought you said this was your hobby and that you were interested in it. I am too and for me it's very important to be scientifically correct. Especially in this industry that is absolutely FILLED with "broscience" and fake statements on diets and training.
2020-01-22 12:31
Sure, but I'm not interested in your guy. :-) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_auth..
2020-01-22 12:32
My argument was never that "you should listen to this guy just because he's got phd". It was for you to understand the biochemistry behind fat loss and IF (if you're interested). He explains it way better than I or most others could. You still haven't posted any study showing what you claimed, all you've sent me is a blog type post by some random guy. He did reference to some credible pubmed articles though, but non of them say what you're claiming.
2020-01-22 12:37
#76 Don't be lazy or don't bother me with that useless demagogy.
2020-01-22 12:38
Sorry, I meant your last sentence. Feel free to show me a good randomized study that shows an increase in fat loss with an IF group compared to normal 3 meals a day group, with a controlled calorie intake for both groups. I'm sure you can't find one. However if you're talking about 48h fastings (which is definitely not considered IF), then yeah sure, you will have used up all your glycogen from the liver and started using stored fat as an energy source to a larger extent, yes.

One does not exist currently. All we can do is base it off the evidence we have currently. Which shows an increase in your metabolism in short term fasting. I'm not sure if you're just arguing for the sake of arguing but we seem to be on the same side of the argument here. IF doesn't work if you continue to eat the same amount of calories. IF only works if it's cutting your calorie consumption. My point regarding the negligible weight loss while still maintaining their original caloric intake is due to the increased metabolism over the extended fasting period. Which provides a minor, and rapidly diminishing change in weight.
2020-01-22 13:00
U lose muscle when fasting
2020-01-21 19:52
Not in 16-20 hour periods. Neither do you lose more fat (given the daily calory intake stays the same)

2020-01-22 06:38
The goal of fasting isn't to just lose weigh but your body to fully digest and health it self. When you eat all the time and especially bad food your body focuses all it's energy to digest,if you constantly feed it shit every 2 hours your body will have no time to recover/heal itself because it's always digesting and battling inflammation. It's like putting shit fuel in your car longer you do it the quicker it will break.
2020-01-22 06:58
Fasting doesn't necessary lead to autophagy, there is some requirements to be met. "Your body to fully digest itself" wtf? :-)
2020-01-22 07:15
I did a 5 day water fast, on the last day I took the biggest shit of my life, it gets rid of all the crud out of your digestive tract.
2020-01-22 08:33
Then you did it wrong, you're supposed to empty your bowels first, prior to doing 3+ days fasting.
2020-01-22 08:41
OK..
2020-01-22 09:09
yes it does work however its more like you can eat more calories and not gain weight, if you want to lose weight you also might want to implement a diet that you find works for you along with 16.8 fasting
2020-01-22 07:20
'does it actually work' it depends whether you're in a calorie deficit daily regardless of fasting 16 or 20 hours a day. you fast for nothing if you eat 3000 calories in a meal afterwards. anyway that's how i lost 20kg in <4 months back when i was super fat, it was hard at first but after a week i could control my appetite like a god. not for the weak mindeds

You have to be in a caloric defficite to lose weight if you do 16:8 but eat 5000calories during those 8 hours youll gain weight just as you would without fasting, but its hard to eat that much b3couse you skip 1 meal forsure so you probably will still go down
2020-01-22 08:36
losing weight is not that hard. Just see a doctor, your might have insuline resistance which would cause limited weight losing. if your hormons are not working how they should be, you cannot lose too much weight with sports or diets. fix this with seeing a doctor. If you just eat too much and dont move enough, then you see the problem already so take an action, fastings, sports, diets wont be effective at all. You need to change your life in order to lose weight permanently.

2020-01-22 12:57
ive done intermitted fasting on and off for about 9 months, i am talking from experience not some article when you do intermitted fasting, your testestrone levels boost by a huge percent because insulin level in your blood drops to almost 0, you will use your fat so much better so yeah, it does work also you will not get hungry, only the first 3 4 days maybe after that if you dont eat a single thing, you can stay fasted for as long as you want, i once fasted for 1 week straight, i only had apple juice mixed with water 2 times/day (and that was cuz i was hitting the gym) but remember, as soon as you eat even the slightest things, your blood sugar goes up and the "super optimized fat lose" will stop immediately, and you will get hungry soon feel free to ask any questions about the topic, i would gladly answer/help
2020-01-22 12:38
Nice post. Drinking juice =/= fasting though. Without food but with juice you could easily live for 1-2 months if you would want. :-)

Isn't it bad to go for that long because of all the vitamens and what nots you miss out on from fasting for so long? Even fasting for 1 week, is there no downside from not having that daily intake of vitamens and other stuff?
2020-01-22 16:08
No, it's fine if you do it for the health reasons.
2020-01-22 16:38
it's fine dude, we are not some weak ass species, we used to live in the wild, our body can handle 1 week or more of no food, np. its just our mindset that is different

After your body gets used to it, in keto mode you do have energy if you have any fat in your body.
2020-01-22 16:36
#100 is right you will have more than enough energy when your insulin level reaches absolute 0 that's when your body can use your fat like a pro

I doubt that's how your supposed to do intermittent fasting... Surely your supposed to eat something like an actual meal?
2020-01-22 16:02
i think its all bullshit, ur body is a mysterious mashine if u learn him to eat one big meal a day, u can easily have a happy life. back in the days knights also feasted like once a day and then went ham. and u can still easily consume 3k calories in just one big phat meal, so it doesn't matter.

Yes it works. I tried OMAD for a week but that wasn't my thing after all. Then I figured out that best for me is 19/5. I can tell you have more energy than ever after your body gets used to it. EDIT: I think it doesn't work if you eat shit like ice cream burgers etc. Your metabolism gets fucked if you eat that shit.
