It depends on your native language and how similar it is to your target language. Languages based on Latin and Ancient Greek for example are not that hard for people who have a native language also based on Latin and Ancient Greek, but for a Japanese for example, it can be much harder.

I only know English though, am I screwed?
2020-01-22 16:19
Not really french is probably the closest to english so if you want to learn a new language then French is your best choice.

Not really. Norwegian and Swedish are much easier for a native English speaker than French.

Spanish is the same as French, dutch = easiest
2020-01-22 16:30
French is not the same. Even for other latin languages users. Technically French is closer to Italian than Spanish. Practically most of Italians would rather learn Spanish than French. Mainly because of pronunciation. Why do Romanian emigrants (latin language too) prefer Italy and Spain over France?

For english probably dutch or norwegian
2020-01-22 16:30
Ya
2020-01-22 17:39
English has latin and ancient greek influences because it has been heavily marked by French, but it has Germanic roots, in fact it's a Germanic language itself. I think for English speakers the easiest languages are probably West Germanic languages like Dutch or German, or Romance languages like French, Italian or Spanish.

Almost grammatically identical. But totally different alphabet system and words. Its like learning your own language in different alphabet/words.

French

Yes

If you know only English then try Dutch or Spanish. German and Scandinavian languages will be a little harder, then French.

I speak french (native), english, italian, spanish and a bit of turkish and I have to say that even tho spanish is close to french it has a lot of grammatical differences. The connection is way more evident between italian and spanish than spanish and french. On the other hand Catalan is 80% the same as french, and for me who comes from the southwest of France I understand it very well as if it was Occitàn

No believe me, for us Germans it is much easier to learn Norwegian or Danish rather than Spanish. Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are basically a mixture of English and German.
2020-01-22 17:47
but these languages are pretty irrelevant compared to a world language like spanish
2020-01-22 17:47
True, but still they are seperate languages. And to be honest, I'd rather live in Denmark than in Spain, but that's just my current preference
2020-01-22 17:48
good for you. i rather live in germany than anywhere else
2020-01-22 17:49
Me too, but that is not related to this topic.
2020-01-22 17:49
"... I'd rather live in Denmark than in Spain, but that's just my current preference" isn't related to the topic either. my friend.

Spanish, really easy to understand and everything
2020-01-22 17:31

if ur not a native speaker and ur learning english there are so many stupid rules and shit to remember, words that sound the same but spelled different and what not.
2020-01-22 17:53
english is a very easy language to learn, pointless to deny that. hardest one to learn is chinese. I've heard that chinese language is different from each other in regions so that even chinese people themselves can't always understand each other.

It depends on your own native langauge. For me, as a Bosnian, Russian and other slav langauges are really easy to learn. But for a French, Italian or Spanish (I think). So yeah, you can't define which langauge is easiest.
2020-01-22 17:53
Uzbek
2020-01-22 17:54
IDK the easier, but for the hardest, I think Portuguese is one of the hardest of the western languages. Many people that have Portuguese as native language don't know how to speak properly. It has many words to say the same thing, useless verbal tenses, etc. It's similar to Italian, Spanish so I think it's easy to learn the basics, but very hard to master, even to natives
