Any "investors" on hltv? :) Ive recently joined the stock market myself, got some advice from my dad and too much money in my bank account (sorry im norwegian), so i decided might as well start buying some stocks. Have you been successful? Tips and tricks? Bring on the experiences folks

Ford? XD I dont even know what "XLRE ETF" is
2020-01-22 20:58
Ford pays dividends. It's not a huge growth stock (although I do suspect it's undervalued rn). An ETF is basically a collection of stocks. XLRE is a real estate ETF. so all the stocks will be in the real estate sector

I dont agree with that. A lot of people make a little off stocks, im not looking to get rich or risk a lot either.
2020-01-22 21:15
If you want to make money off of stocks you either have to settle for an insignificant amount of profit or truly dedicate yourself to the stock market. It is extremely hard for the average person to make money from the stock market when there are tons of people that do it for a living.

 |
Norway JorgyZ
My dad probably earned 20-30k dollars in some years in stock, i wouldnt call that insignificant as a hobby. As i said im not planning to get rich by this, its just a hobby which may or may not become a side income.
2020-01-24 19:42
Of course, you can earn money but it is not sustainable in the long run. You can flip a coin on which stocks to invest and earn a good amount of money, that does not mean you are good at trading stocks.

Norway JorgyZ
Picking stocks IS like flipping a coin though, you could make the most in depth research and know all these things to look for and an amateur could still be picking better options. (Theres even been an experiment with simulated monkeys vs experts and the simulated monkeys won). A lot of people make a little money from investing and thats basically what it is, you dont need to wear a suit and act like a douche to earn money.

yes, he is. it's the safest and most probable way for your average joe to increase capital. doesn't mean every stock will generate revenue, or that everyone will make extreme immense profit, but in the long term, with adequate knowledge, luck and strategy, it's a net gain.
2020-01-22 22:51
Nah, there is a reason why 70% of ppl lose money trading. Everyone can't gain money, if you want some ppl to make money you have to have some ppl that lose money, it's simple, it will never be a win-win for everybody.

If we are talking index funds and long term investing ur right, but that wasn't what I was getting from you, might be wrong tho. If u indeed were talking about that I would agree, that you are more than likely to make money if you make it long term instead of buying and selling all the time.

i thought it was obvious. if not then we're probably on the same page. day trading is a game for a select few with both time and capital, the rest should stick to long term investing, which is no doubt an advantageous way of using your money
2020-01-25 02:01
I think the reason I thought you meant a day to day trading was cuz I saw some people saying it was a good thing to do. Long term is the way
2020-01-25 20:26
Just look at the average rate of return in the stock market... can’t lose if you invest in index funds over the long term.

Try investing into crypto, but you gotta be careful cause youll have to sell whenever you see tipping points. I’m not a very active trader but have a portfolio set up that rebalances occasionally. I primarily focus on mutual funds and etfs to maximize diversity with my not too large dollar amount. I try to keep an eye on my portfolio beta around 1 or 1.05. With the uncertainty of the US market and a potential recession I look to companies that fare well in tough times (Banks, Utilities) and companies with large cash reserves to make purchases, pay dividends, and invest in the business in a bad time

Not actively investing but using Acorns for passive long-term investment. Basically it automatically sends all round-ups from my purchases and an additional $200/month recurring deposit into an investment account. So far I invested $4000 and got 7% return (slightly higher than bank deposit). You can join for free and get $5 (US-only, 18+) acorns.com/invite/J7AAMG It's not Ponzi scheme or pyramid. They're regulated by US treasury, have their own credit card and retirement plan, and you can withdraw anytime. Another option is Robinhood but it requires active investment, manual stock buying/selling and I have no time/will to dig into constant market research. Acorns is just a better way to invest for people with some free money but little free time.

Nah, bank interest is usually 4-5%. 7%+ is only achievable with investment (passive or active).

I wish I did that a couple of years ago, that would have been amazing. Still the last couple of months has not been bad, but nothing like the last couple of years. Most likely the next year is gonna be good.
2020-01-24 22:41
I’ve made a sum on betting and bought 3 trading areas (not quite sure how you call this on English, basically a place which you get rent from) and looking for the same stuff as you do since betting last 2 years isnt profitable anymore.
2020-01-24 19:46
I have been investing for a few years now. Some years are better than others and not everything I have picked has gone up, at worst I had a couple of years where only the dividend was bringing anything while other years have been really good. In 2019 the value of my investments grew 30% and dividend on top brought about 3% so not to bad, a couple of stocks has really taken off and more than doubled over the year. There is increasingly chatter about how a new crisis is gonna hit, so with that I am a little reluctant to expand further only it pains me to have money in the bank earning 0% interest and seeing nice profits in the stock market. My stocks are spread over several sectors, so heavy industry, wind turbines, tech, pharma and food industry. I won't go near weapons, dirty energy or anything where the majority is owned by anything in tax haven or otherwise with questionable ethics.
2020-01-24 22:35
Yes, I live out of it. I don't have much tips to give to small shareholders. Except, don't use investment as bet on share value potential grow, you are not a trader, and so you won't ever win against them. Invest in order to collect dividends.

Ty for tips, i will find out later if i want to start with dividends, so far ive kind of got the feel that dividends is the safest way to earn money
2020-01-24 22:49
Just place bets on Haaland. When he switched in he had @3 odds. Stocks only give you like @1,5 odds in like 2 years HAHAHA
2020-01-24 22:44
I have been thinking about getting into index funds for some EZ long term money, so when I'm like 40 or 50 I got money for life man, and also real estate to get some passive income

I see a lot of people talking about index funds but i havent looked into it at all, can you tell me a little about it?
2020-01-25 11:17
Well... I don't know too much about it, but I would say it's like sp 500, I think it is called that, it's like where you buy into around 500 companies (ofc a REALLY small %) the plan with index funds is for you to make "a lot" of money long term (we are talking 15-40 years) and consistently investing over many many years. youtube.com/watch?v=fwe-PjrX23o this guy explains everything that has to do with financial independence, investing and money management. You will NOT regret looking into what he has to offer.

I doubled my portfolio in around 3 months. It's all about spreading your investments, meaning you should invest in different companies. For example, I invested in a bank, a retail firm, pharmaceutical company and a cement company. Only invest in companies who you see there's a future in and who has a significant market share.
2020-01-29 14:42
>doubled my portfolio in 3 months >its about spreading your investments pretty fucking contradictory
