i had a calculus test and i was wondering if did this problem right so please help i had to find the derivative of this position formula to then get the velocity formula and the position formula was 2t^3/3 +7t^2 +20t + (forgot last number but that number is irrelevant because derivative of a constant is 0) so what i did was multiply everything times 3 so i could get rid of the denominator of 3 to make it easy is that allowed? i am very bad at mathematics and this is very important grade)))

oh my goodness i just had massive brain fart, i thought you couldn’t do the derivative of a fraction so you had to get rid of the denominator, but i think that only applies if there is a variable in the denominator, does the way i did it give you the same answer?

I dont think that was necessary, because the derivative of 2/3 t^3 is 6/3t^2, so you simplify to 2t^2 Im not sure tho

Yes, but you have to multiply every factor by 3 and then divide your answer by 3. Using your method, you should have gotten 6t^2 + 42t + 60. Divide that by 3, and you would get the correct answer: 2t^2 + 14t + 20 If you wanted to check, you could have used quotient rule for the first factor and power rule for the last two factors. You would have gotten the same answer. Proof: derivative-calculator.net I just copy and pasted your question here and it got the same answer I did
