Flu is a virus, not a bacteria. It is a virus that mutates so quickly antibodies from a year ago are useless - that's why there's a new flu vaccine every year. Everyone can and will be infected, depending on the effectiveness of the strain.
2020-01-26 10:01

Ehm No.. the severeness og the symptoms, are much much worse than a regular flu. The guaranteed pnemonia makes it ALOT worse than a regular flu, since the normal one only causes pnemonia a fraction og the time. The fatality rate is also slot higher.
2020-01-27 11:19
Its not a guaranteed pneumonia LMAO stop reading wrong info. Fatality rate is higher because it's primarily in China, a dirty country with so many gasses in the air, overpopulated streets/houses everywhere and poor hygiene. There a bound to be more people dying there, flu death rate is also much much higher in China than in other parts of the world. Stop overreacting and stop reading the drama media. They make it sound way worse to keep people clicking on their articles and lure them into visiting the site more often cuz they want new info.
2020-01-27 11:22
Mate, fuck off. Don't call a tomato a potato and then go "this is what I said". The terms in dutch are not awfully different from English ones. Don't make retarded excuses for your lack of education. Secondly, you just don't know. Any information we have on wtf is going on in China comes from CPC. And that's one organization you can count on 50% lying to you even in their most honest statements. Here's an example: Seasonal flu kills between 290 000-640 000 people every year. 2900+ people died from flu in NL during 2018/2019 winter seasonal flu epidemic. China officially reported 143 deaths. Bitch, do you really believe 20 times more people die from flu in the fucking Netherlands than in the country that holds 18% of the world population, especially considering the conditions they're living in? Weibo is fucking blowing up with chinese medical staff literally risking their lives stating tens of times bigger figures for infected and dead than what CPC officially admits to, begging for help. Risking their lives because publicly contradicting official statements is illegal, and a good fucking way to get disappeared in China. You really think that medical staff in a country the size of China would be struggling with only 4409 people? Get fucking real. All outgoing searches relating to the epidemic are being blocked. And that's not because they care about their general public reading the bullshit they tell to the rest of the world, but because they don't need chinese people commenting "haw haw, these numbers are smaller than in just my city alone. your media so uninformed, dumb foreigners. middle kingdom best country." You say media is trying to cause some kind of a fucking clickbait fear mongering sensationalism. Compared to the Ebola bullshit and the dumb shit before, I would say the articles I've read are pretty fucking calm, claiming there's no cause for panic. And that's justified, because we really don't fucking know until that shit makes its way over to the west, and we start getting some actual solid data. But you can't just sit on your fucking sofa and call it barely worse than flu when you literally don't know any actual details. I mean, you can.. but you'll just continue to look as fucking dumb as you already do.

2020-01-26 12:33
So its like the flu, but people dont have antibodies? First: Flu changes all the time and we need new antibodies almost every year. Thats why many people can sick on the flue more than once in their life (alot more often). Besides that: Lets assume you are right and people had antibodies for the flu but not for the corona virus: If that wasnt really dangerous, why all the quarantines? Hes swineflu for example was total bullshit, but if you knew anything about it, you would know tha this virus is alot more harmful. Wikipedia has all the available data for the virus btw, so if you care aoyu can go on there and read about how the virus works.
2020-01-27 13:49
They quarantine because they dont want it widely spreading, they learned from SARS. It's a new virus so ofc they have to be more aware, from what the western world has seen its like SARS but not as deadly. Most of the information is from chinese officials and you can't trust them.
2020-01-28 16:06
I basically agree, I just wanted to make the point that this is not like a normal flue, the comparison to SARS is spot on though. And SARS wasnt fun. I usually also agree you cant trust them all the time, but I would assume, that they would be more likely to make something like this seem LESS dangerous? We have cases in other countries and the normal SARS treatment does not seem to work that well. I think we mostly agree on this one.
2020-01-28 16:43
There isnt really a "cure" for any respiratory viruses, just vaccines to help the weaker people. Our bodies fight them and medicines to help symptoms. Apparently lots of people have been discharged and infected patients in other countries seem to be in good conditions. They say 1 in 4 cases seem severe, but then again pneumonia on its own is a severe infection, so something that can cause that is going to be dangerous. I dont trust the chinese officials not for making it seem more dangerous or less but the number of infected. I assume its much more than what they say. We cant trust their words but as we can see by their actions they know it needs containing, they went from wearing normal masks in hospitals 2 weeks ago to now basically wearing full blown hazmat suits, theyve lockdown cities and building a field hospital in 6 days. Actions speak louder. Like when chernobyl happened im pretty sure Russian officials said it was a precautionary evacuation but really nuclear radiation was spitting out everywhere.
2020-01-28 17:06
Supposedly much easier than the flu and the fatality rate is higher.

0,1% of people with flu dies from it in the US. 2% of people with corona virus has died so far
2020-01-26 09:58
Again: because people with weak immune systems are often times vaccinated and also enjoy the luxury of the herd immunity. This virus is brand new. Ofc its lethality will be higher. That doesn’t mean shit.
2020-01-26 10:01
Sweden GeT_CoRrEcT
All i'm saying is imagine if we would treat the virus just like you want to. It's very contagious so there could easily be victims in the ten million range in China. Why ignore it because it's survivable? Of course media always overreacts but these things should never be taken lightly or with ease.
2020-01-26 10:07
Where did I say this? Of course you need to take it seriously especially since it can further mutate. But to make a sci fi Drama out of it and panic is bs.
2020-01-26 10:09
Sweden GeT_CoRrEcT
Yes i agree but i'm not sure OP does. Don't forget that China is China and they would never admit that they have lost control so i would expect a much higher number of contaminated than they have presented. The virus has reportedly grown stronger since it was first discovered in late December.
2020-01-26 10:14
I agree. They probably downplay it.
2020-01-26 10:15
You cant treat the virus. Your body exposes of it itself. And easily. Only with a bad immume system it cant treat itself, but a bad immume system cant treat a pneumonia aswell so that doesnt make corona dangerous
2020-01-26 10:10
Sweden GeT_CoRrEcT
Yes because it causes pnemonia? If everyone in the whole world fell ill to this virus then you would go full Thanos mode?
2020-01-26 10:15
It could cause pneunomia, it only does it sometimes. And that pneunomia could kill you. But the chances of that happening are very low.
2020-01-26 11:15
We can treat other viruses, but not this one
2020-01-26 10:27
Your body treats it all by itself, only if you have a bad immume system but if thats the case you can get killed by every disease so that doesnt prove anything

2020-01-26 11:02
Why are you attacking me ? LMAO , chill out. I stated a fact , corona so far only killed elderly people and people who were previously wery sick and had their immune system weakened. Never have I mention that we should ignore it but putting it out there as the next Spanish flu that will kill of 50% of world population is also wrong.
2020-01-26 11:08
Sweden GeT_CoRrEcT
Yeah but the spanish flu also started of as "just a little flu".
2020-01-26 11:10
A) the virus that cuased the Spanish flu was much worse. It attacked the immune system and made it overreact and pretty much destryos the immune system , expecially to young people. B) It happened during ww1 , hygiene was at an all time low , hospitals were overcrowded , lack of antivaril drugs and no vaccines. You see the difference ?
2020-01-26 11:17
everyone had bad immume systems and were still weak because of past diseases
2020-01-26 11:23
Unless you had cancer , HIV , leucemia , tuberculosis or some other deadly disease such as the ones I mention than you won't have to worry about a bad and dammaged immune system.
2020-01-26 11:28
Are you dumb? Bad hygiene, underfeeding, harsh enviroments, no vitamins, no minerals etc for a longer amount of time causes a bad immume system, which was exactly the case
2020-01-26 11:30
We don't live in 1900s anymore. Any food you eat contains enough vitamins and minerals for your body. We do have places in Africa with poor hygiene and low supplies of food but honestly , not much we can do about it. Rich countryes can help but they hardly care.

The flu kills 250000 - 650000 people every year. That's just seasonal flu, some epidemics have almost wiped out civilisations. It's too early to tell if it's even close to being as bad as the flu let alone worse.
2020-01-26 09:28
>That's just seasonal flu, some epidemics have almost wiped out civilisations. Lul? so 2-5% of people at worst pandemia is almost wiped out? nice
2020-01-26 14:21
> Toner, an M.D. and researcher at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, took part in a simulation, undertaken in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, that posited such a disease could kill 65 million people within 18 months under the right circumstances. see the difference
2020-01-26 15:02
World Beard43
In 1918 the flu killed somewhere between 50 and 100 million people. Yeah I see the difference, the flu has actually caused that many deaths while no strain of coronavirus in history has. It's really not worth the average person bothering about it.
2020-01-26 15:27
??? Spanish flu exactly proves my point. "flu" isn't harmless. Usually it is but "not worth bothering" is peak ignorance. Who the fuck are you anyway? Pretty sure this Johns Hopkins researcher knows a lot more about this topics then you do and he isn't the only scientist saying it's far more dangerous than a normal flu.
2020-01-26 15:43
World Beard43
I've been working in pathology for 15 years, the last 5 in infectious diseases. I'm not ignorant on the topic at all. Influenza is never harmless, it kills hundreds of thousands of people every year worldwide and has a history of pandemics with fatalities in the millions. It's also not something worth freaking out about and as I said, the average person need not bother about it. There are often new, potentially dangerous mutations of various viruses and bacteria that the general public never hear about, nor do they need to know because it doesn't matter. Tell me, exactly what do you think you can do about it? Why is it so worth it to you to be bothered by this?
2020-01-26 17:31
what kind of stupid argument is that? this is a forum and it's news because it's important. I can't do anything about 99% of the things reported in the news. Also the claim that this virus is basically the same as a normal flu is clearly not true so not sure why you keep going on about it.
2020-01-26 17:42
World Beard43
It isn't "clearly not true" at all. Not enough is known about this strain of coronavirus to be able to make a comparison. It's simply not worth worrying about. But go back to freaking out. While you're at it have a read about TB, it's currently killing about 1.5 million people per year worldwide and multi-resistant strains are not treatable.
2020-01-26 17:57
the number of people that died relative to the number of people infected is clearly far higher than a normal flu. also I honestly don't give shit about your random hltv user take when actual scientists clearly disagree with you. also you keep pivoting, the argument was about "freaking out". your whole argument that we shouldn't be talking about it is utterly stupid
2020-01-26 18:02
The flu kills way more people every year. And there are vaccines for that. So... you do the Math.
2020-01-26 09:51
the flu doesn't kill more people. sure, some people die, mainly very old and people in poor health conditions. E.g. this scientist estimates that at the current rate the virus would kill 65 million people:
2020-01-26 15:01
65 mio... riiiiiight. I will write you in 2 months. God will you look stupid.
2020-01-26 16:28
you already look like an idiot now. read the article, he isn't saying that this is guaranteed to happen. how hard is it to understand that this virus has a higher fatality rate than the common flu?
2020-01-26 16:34
Ofc it has. Its new. It’ll die down quickly.
2020-01-26 16:38
maybe but that's not the topic. the virus is clearly worse than a normal flu hence why people are concerned about whether it can be contained.

2020-01-27 11:12
It's not completely wrong, american universities are overrated. They pay ranking companies money for high ratings because it's a game of competition between private colleges.
2020-01-27 13:26
When you don't specify the faculty.. I have to admit you sound stupid
2020-01-26 11:29
He asked for the degree of my education, so faculty is irrelevant.

look out guys new va$$ine coming soon
2020-01-25 10:40
This happens every few years. It happened with bird flu, swine flu and probably many more. They make a virus, release it and some bullshit medical company comes up with a vaccine and somehow makes 1 billion of them in a week, sells them and you forget about it all after a month.
2020-01-25 10:45

keep living in ur bubble where everytime something is called "a conspiracy" by mainstream, it automatically becomes crazy idea for insane people because elites want only good for us
2020-01-26 10:42
Dude this is just bs. You have no idea how expensive it is to develop a new pharmaceutical. The industry is interested in longterm chronic diseases. That’s a fact. The guy just wrote some childish gibberish and you people fall for it.
2020-01-26 10:45
Nothing I wrote was childish gibberish. "How expensive it is to develop...". It's an investment. Do you know how much more they will make selling vaccines? Do you think those motherfuckers develop medicine to help us? They do it because they make boatloads of money from it...
2020-01-28 13:37
if you can milk the market 10 years before the patent expires, yes. you are clueless. a vaccine for this shortterm disease will NEVER even come CLOSE to what it costs.
2020-01-28 14:07
So you are saying they made the vaccines to help people? Lmao Edit: it supposedly cost them $2B to develop the vaccine. The US alone bought 229 million of doses and some sources say the starting price was $16, but increased quickly to $30. You can do the math on that.
2020-01-28 14:39
Talking about the swine flu outbreak of 2009 btw Idk about you but a few billion in profits just from US sounds pretty fucking worth it to me...
2020-01-28 14:40
its actually more like 4 bn. in this particular case it might have been a good deal, in other cases, the disease stops spreading before the industry could even finish developing the vaccine. what then? money down the drain, yes. mr.bigbrain. do you know how long it takes to develop something like that? also clinical phases etc. in this case we might be in luck because of the similarity to the sars virus, but still. what I said earlier stays true. often the gov has to help then.
2020-01-28 15:13
They are not developing the vaccine in response to a virus. Vaccines are developed in advance, but only mentioned once the disease has started spreading and sold once it has spread enough. They have good lobbyists who push governments to buy vaccines and have good PR teams and endorsers. Here they paid a guy who was competing in the Eurovision contest to shill for them...
2020-01-28 15:18
ok now I get it. you are a tinfoil idiot. "Vaccines are developed in advance" how, mr.bigbrain, is this supposed to work? you have to identify the virus strain first. and even is they started as early as patient 0 and keep quiet for a couple of weeks, that is basically nothing. you can only develop in response to a virus. do you have any idea about how this works?
2020-01-28 15:21
Have you even read my initial comment? "They make a virus...". Your name really doesn't check out.
2020-01-28 15:29
oh that was you. kek. do you have any proof for your tinfoil claim? no? didnt think so. LOL
2020-01-28 15:30
this sounds like a good business model btw.. any idea why there are huge time gaps between those viruses? I mean they could release one every year no?
2020-01-28 15:31
It is a great business model and I have no idea why it's not done more often. Probably because developing viruses takes a little more than a year, or it would just be too obvious to have a major outbreak year or two. To answer the reply above: Of course I don't have proof. Do criminals tell police about what they do? Of course they don't. They'd like it to stay a secret so they can continue doing what they do and they have resources to make it stay a secret. All people can do is speculate about it and then get called conspiracy theorists.
2020-01-28 15:42
yeah. it is amazing that people like you unironically exist.
2020-01-28 15:43
Yeah, fuck the people who question the governments and corporations! You're a good goy! Have a nice day.
2020-01-28 15:45
oh, are we a bit antisemitic? maybe the jews are behind all of this? yes OF COURSE NO IT ALL MAKES SENSE! lmao. you are an idiot.
2020-01-28 15:47
1) Never said Jews had anything to do with this. 2) "Goy" isn't an antisemitic term. It is a Jewish word to describe a non-Jewish person. Should have perhaps used "sheep" instead, but whatever.
2020-01-28 15:53
yeah, maybe you should have, but its too late now mr. tinfoil hat :)
2020-01-28 15:55

It actually doesn't seem to be as bad as the flu, but because it's new and relatively unknown caution is required because first impressions aren't always accurate. As for the hysteria in the media, they're taking it way too far.

It's just that the virus is quite new and we aren't 100% sure that it is not too dangerous. Remember that often in history viruses did tremendous amount of deaths. As exemple Venise saw its population divided in 2 or more twice. The Spanish flu 100 years ago killed dozens of millions in Europe. Etc ... Etc ... So media's are overreacting but that's their job and authorities are just being cautious.

Its just as contagious, people thought you could get ebola from just touching eachothers pinkies when it was new. Same as this shit. It's less contagious than a flu. Only difference is that nobody has antibodies so it's way more noticeable that its contagious. With a normal flu many ppl allready have antibodies so they are unaffected

How is it overreacting you understand not a single person alive has immunity to Corona Virus right? The flu has had a vaccine for it for decades.

Because you dont need to be immume to corona virus, just be an average healthy person and you'll survive easily
