Big event on HLTV (question)

How does HLTV rank different events? I know the participating teams ranking and number of teams make a difference, but what else? Is there any information of how HLTV rank the event points for the attending teams?

Idk maybe something like that, but Tiering of the events is explained really good there and I believe hltv is similar to that
2020-02-20 00:45
It's simply based on their opinion
2020-02-18 22:18
Tgwiri's?
2020-02-18 23:19
I guess. they are pretty intransparent about those things and I think it's because they know that it's not really backed by anything. same with the top20. if they released some kind of "formula" then people would just calculate it beforehand and point out flaws. Also hltv is a business and they have their own interests, e.g. ESL has its own ranking that competes with theirs, so them treat blast as a big event in 2019 was a bit questionable not just from a statistics perspective.

The reason for my question is: I believe that HLTV can make or break Flashpoint depending on the ranking points the teams get depending on the league stature. If it is considered a big league then the teams will be high in the rankings and more up-and-coming orgs might leave MDL for Flashpoint. Also - Flashpoint can then use HLTV's ranking for their rules, which hasn't yet specified the team ranking they will use. If HLTV see Flashpoint as a low tier league, then Flashpoint will be doomed.
2020-02-19 00:28
yeah, I completely agree and generally it's in the interest of hltv to have more TOs in the scene and their ranking being more important. Because if the scene is just blast and esl then hltv ranking is basically pointless, especially if blast/esl have their own rankings. however, I doubt hltv ranking alone will save flashpoint, they look pretty dead to me. honestly not even sure whether it will actually happen or probably just one season. also if hltv treats flashpoint as a big event then the hltv ranking will basically be a joke and indirectly lose value to fans.
2020-02-19 00:36
yeah, no matter what HLTV do, there need to be some sort of coherency between Flashpoint AND HLTV for the league to be good, especially now that ESL booked 24 out of the top 30, and one of the 6 remaining missed out in the Flashpoint qualifier.
2020-02-19 00:38
my guess is that flashpoint won't be a "big event" but that that hltv still gives them more points than an event with similar teams would usually get.

Danish site so any lan with blastralis in it counts the most. But if they lose it's ranked low

prize pool = high ranked teams attending
2020-02-19 00:30
those are the only two requirements? So WESG is a big event?

Fair enough, my bad. I would assume those two things are the 2 main factors but im sure there is a certain subjectivity in the matter as well. I would say WESG is not a big event party because only a few top teams usually attend and party due to the special nature of random mix teams from their nationality (team russia/ukraine) I also dont think hltvs decision will make or break flashpoint, though it certainly will help if they make it a big event. The amount of money going into this league is insane and assuming their product is good and brings a lot of viewers I can see a world where thorin is right and these NA-backed orgs buy out a lot of top teams/players and bring them to flashpoint 1,2,3,4 years in the future. I think I heard somewhere that the 2m buyins the orgs paid can run the league for 5 years even without profit, dont quote me on the exact # of years though.
