No. People should work for money, not have it handed to them.

Uh. Like yang's idea? Not really cause I'm gonna get hella taxed in order for them to afford it. But, for other people, I can see why they would. You get money, and could help lift many people out of poverty, and also help some struggling people out, so they can find success in the future.

well its still a bad idea. Like get a job LUL
2020-02-21 21:09
+1 everyone should work for a living, not get money for nothing because you "own" something
2020-02-21 21:09
You're definitely not gonna be saying that when there's only 10,000 job openings across the country, all of which are for ML engineers and robotics engineers with PhD's and 10 years of experience.

6/8 but it wont happen. i'll take my contract IT work if i have to.
2020-02-21 22:10
An exaggeration for sure. But, will you have trouble finding work due to robotics and ML in the future? Absolutely.

He will not be alive by the time that happens, none of us will be, so who cares?
2020-02-21 23:17
ANN's will be economically relevant in 15-20 years at most. Self driving trucks are 5-10 years away including going through regulation (they're already functional right now). This is happening within our lifetimes man.
2020-02-22 09:33
I think it's a good idea. also people saying it's socialism have no idea what they are talking about, e.g. Milton Friedman supported it and he was pretty much the opposite of a socialist

just because he supported it doesn't mean it's not a socialist idea
2020-02-21 21:08
just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it's a socialist idea

redistribution of wealth is definitely a socialist idea. milton friedman, like most economists, acknowledged the benefits and efficiency of a free market. but milton friedman also, like most reasonable human beings, was a pragmatic and acknowledged the flaws and shortcomings of a free market.
2020-02-21 21:27
so basically you just don't understand what socialism is then?

yeah because anything but total collective ownership is unsocialist.

i'm calling redistribution of wealth and income, a notion based on the idea that society to some extent has collective ownership of resources and capital, socialist. i'm not buying into the idea that everything but centralized planning is a capitalist economy with redistributive elements

Why should we get taxed up the ass for it to go to retards who are too lazy to work and earn it for themselves. Stop trying to leech off the government...
2020-02-21 21:05
there are alot of arguments pro and cons but this is an nice article about this topic they tried this in finland huffpost.com/entry/universal-basic-incom..
2020-02-21 21:07
I don't really care if it works or not. It's just a terrible idea imo.
2020-02-21 21:13
It's not a terrible idea. It will be eventually needed in the future due to automation.

2020-02-21 21:27
How is it a terrible idea if it works?
2020-02-21 22:15
It's a terrible idea in the sense we shouldn't be paying people for existing. I can get behind free health care. I can get behind free insurance to an extent, but you shouldn't be paid just for living. There needs to be lost of Caveats involved, at the very least.
2020-02-22 00:07
Wages are going down every year man. 1000 dollars a month isn't enough to live on anyway, it's just gonna help supplement people's wages so they don't have to work 80 hours a week at two shitty jobs to make rent for their apartment in the ghetto.
2020-02-22 09:31
THen maybe you should have to be employed in order to receive it...? If Unemployment becomes a real problem -- when, then we can talk about a true UBI.
2020-02-22 17:52
You can either receive welfare or UBI. There's no point just giving to employed people because you can't live off of it anyway. And if you lose your job, UBI can act as a cushion until you get a new one.

People shouldn't get paid for nothing, though.
2020-02-21 21:13
they should, because they feed the economy
2020-02-21 21:13
DOesn't matter. You should have to work for money.
2020-02-21 21:14
no you don't dumb cuck. Working is voluntary, if you don't want to work, you don't have to lol
2020-02-21 21:14

fuck no
2020-02-21 22:18
Yes, under 2 important requirements. 1. UBI replacing traditional welfare systems, saves a ton of money on useless bureaucracy and eliminates welfare fraud. This alone saves a lot of money and makes it much easier for people in need to get help. 2. UBI money cant come from taxing middle and low income families and then just giving it back. UBI must be funded from automation of jobs.
2020-02-21 23:01
Sounds like a good idea but I dont think that it will work in the long run. I think it would have worked if we were less people on the planet (less people that need money/stress the economy). Also just like people have already said in the thread, the people that work and pay taxes (which would found ubi) would feel exploited and robbed.
