OFF - 40% OF USA IS OBESE
crank |
Poland WITAM
About 40% of US adults are obese, government survey finds. A half-century ago, about 1 in 100 American adults were severely obese. Now it’s 10 times more common. The obesity rate has risen about 40% in the last two decades. apnews.com/a2154b643d53afae2a3654f722a9b.. Thoughts ?

true, you can eat whatever you want as long as it's in moderation. if i ate mcdonalds 5 times a week i still wouldn't be overweight but in US the bad eating habits just pass on by every generation.

its not even the mcdonalds but what they get there. many times you'll see people get like 2 or 3 items and its like a big mac plus 20 piece chicken nuggets with a diet coke.
2020-03-06 20:39
Yea, i told you its about moderation which they have no consideration for. If i remember correctly its also extremely cheap with those fat foods were as in sweden a big mac meal is like 7-8€
2020-03-07 07:10
It's not related to the topic, but in my country you can get double cheeseburger, medium fries and any drink for $3 and a couple of cents
2020-03-07 07:45
Yes, but the monetary value in your country is different considering the average wage is lower. You can get a lot more for a dollar in your country than in sweden or norway for example.
2020-03-07 08:00
yes, ofc, I understand that
2020-03-07 08:01
yes men, its still very very cheap. I rarely buy fast food here since its so overpriced, but atleast we dont get fat like in us :d
2020-03-07 08:14
yea) Europeans have good eating habits, I don't go there often too, although I eat all kinds of crap anyway))) The situations in US is quite scary tbh. In Russia, people who criticize US in usual life sometimes say that "they're all fat" and I thought they exaggerate, but now...
2020-03-07 08:50
its ok to eat crap as long as you don't eat huge amounts, thats the problem with people in US. They don't only eat crap but they also have no moderation. Then their health suffers as a result of terrible eating habits and they complain about the healthcare xd

lmao imagine applying or comparing yourself to all people on Earth. everyone has a different metabolism and some people can eat everything they want and not gain weight at all, and some on the contrary, , eat very little but still inclined to constantly gain weight
2020-03-07 07:56
That is such a bullshit claim by fat people. Yes, people have different metabolism and its easier for some to gain weight but to claim that people can eat how much they want without gaining any weight is bs. People who gain weight generally have a bad sense of moderation and are often not active. Metabolism can play a part but its 90% about how much you consume and how active you are.
2020-03-07 08:07
It’s true, i’m 180cm and no matter how much i eat i always stay at 60kg. Edit: Also the highest weight i’ve been was 64kg when i was eating all day for about 2 weeks on a bet, ate before weighing myself too and lost it in like 1 week. Once i didn’t move much for about the whole year, just played games didn’t move much ate whatever food and still stayed at around 61-63kg. 21 rn, maybe my metabolism will slow down, but it’s true that some people gain weight much easier and some can’t.
2020-03-07 11:36
Yes, i agree that it's easier for some and harder for some to lose/gain weight, but it's not to an insane extent, atleast not generally and your diet and exercise will always be the main reason for your weight. You probably have certain eating habits that makes you stay at that certain weight and im sure that if you develop new habits your weight will drastically change after a a while. It's very hard to know exactly how much you consume and move unless you track it with an app or something. I had the same weight for a long while (skinny) and assumed i had really good metabolism because I ate whatever and didn't train alot. Some years later i develop bad habits and gained like 20kg+. Turns out my previous habits weren't as bad as I thought, maybe it's the same case for you. I think your metabolism plays a part but not massively, one thing I hate though is fat people claiming they have ''bad metabolism' while they claim their friends are skinny just because theirs is good, when in reality theirs friends are actually working out and not eating massive amounts like them.
2020-03-07 12:12
Also true for some people, fat people i know never even tried going on a diet. There were times i sticked to a strict keto diet, vegan diet etc to feel better. But those ppl never work out and use oh it's my metabolism haha. If they work out and try atleast a few diets and it doesn't help only then they have the right to say it.

Bread normally have only 3 ingredients. Wheat flour, water, salt. Anything more than that is a step away from the perfection of the baguette or the pain (400g traditional French bread). Putting sugar in bread is blasphemy

Huge thank. I was watching French news today and i was understanding roughly 20% of what they said. Bunch of words in French are very similar to the languages i already speak well (EN-ES-PT) , in my readings French has appeared to have like a bunch of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese words, it blew me away.

We share the same base, latin. I live in Venice so I learned Italian on the spot and it wasn't really hard as the structure is the same and many words share the same construction patterns. From day 1 I was able to read 75% of italian texts (speaking it was still too hard). So if you speak spanish and portuguese you'll learn fast, you just have to beat the germanic influence. (Also don't be surprise french language have some ancient greek influence sometimes).
2020-03-07 08:35
Yeah but the Germanic influence is rather low in comparison to the Latin roots, it seems to me French is 80% Latin and 20% Germanic. As for Italian, i literally never ever tried to learn anything (not because of hate or anything, i just forgot and never tried to be frank) , and for some reason, i can pick up an Italian text and understand almost everything it says. I was watching this yesterday: youtube.com/watch?v=HjifGyUX_6I I literally understood over 70% of what Ezio said without reading one line of subs. I know it's silly but i love this, im obsessed, when im done learning proper French i'll definitely learn Italian.

Once you're done with french learning italian will take you a few weeks only to master it I guess. You'll complete the latin languages collection. You could pimp it up with catalan or occitan if you want to be fancy in Barcelona or Toulouse. Both are very similar to french and easy to learn if you have a strong latin base. Also did you learn litteral latin before? If not you should give it some minutes everyday, it's fascinating.
2020-03-07 08:47
Actually Catalan is almost exactly the same as Spanish, i really can understand every single word, i watched DBZ Castellano a few while before i dropped it cuz those dubs was trash, even as a little kid that barelly spoke ghetto spanish i had no issue understanding it, as a trashy ghetto trash little shit to me it just sounded as Spaniards acting like retards(sorry no offense Jonny). I guess Asturian, Occitan, Romanian are the last stages before i go all out and actually learn Latin *-* But i have no issues holding the knowledge, perhaps because im still young, or maybe im just that fucking smart (lul im just fucking with you xD) but i don't get very rusty when i learn a new language all out and haven't spoke the others for a while.

Some people have it easy when it comes to learn languages and you're lucky to be one of them. And good thing you don't waste it, the more you know languages the broader your mind will be. Anyway have fun becoming a language master, maybe next time we battle about politics and economy we'll do it in a fancier language than english. And maybe learning french will make you hate us a bit less ahah
2020-03-07 08:55
"And maybe learning french will make you hate us a bit less ahah" At the risk of sounding like an hypocrite, i already hate you less xd Tho you're one of the high end Francaise in this site, most of your compatriotes are really hard to like lul. Merci et bonne nuit l'ami.

Becareful mate this isn't a good habit. Try to impose yourself regular meal time. Most french people eat like this: breakfast at 7am, lunch at 12.30, a fruit and a coffee at 4pm, diner at 8pm. Entrée and main course are compulsory, you can skip dessert for dinner if you're not in the mood but make sure you always eat in good conditions, taking your time sitting at the table, not rushing things. If you have complete proper meals you won't be attracted by snacks

nah, people just don't understand moderation.... they see that stuff and just get it all the time because they like it not all of the country is like this, tho. i've lived in big cities for quite a few years and the overwhelming majority of people are thin and active. obesity is a big problem in southern rural areas because it's part of the culture and history. besides the passed down recipes from each generation, a cheap and easy way to get calories back in the day was to fry food

Unhealthy food tastes better and is cheaper. People are too busy with their careers/families to worry about what they eat. Here in Guatemala, the very poor villages are full of fat people. They can't afford real food so they live off of corn tortillas and get fat.

In the us fast food is extremely cheap compared to European countries such as the uk and while vegetable are still cheap they arent s cheap and filling as McDonalds that's why poor environments in the us have a very high obesity rate compared to the middle/upper class
2020-02-28 02:07
Yes, because healthy food = only vegetables.. NA brain? Theres plenty of great options at grocery stores for reasonable prices but they're too lazy to shop and cook. The norm is to buy fast food because its fast and pretty cheap and since 90% of those chains are unhealthy they become overweight. The problem isn't neccesarily only the food though, its that they have no sense of moderation, and its obviously easier to eat a moderate amount of healthy food compared to like mcdonalds.

-40% OFF WHEN YOU BUY ONE
2020-02-28 01:56
It sucks taking any form of public transportation here because everyone is so god damn fucking huge. Their flabby ass and unnaturally huge girth and arms encroach on your space and 40% is probably an average, in certain areas it's well over half are whales who take motor scooters that are meant for the disabled. That being said, there's excessive sugar literally everything (bread, saltine crackers) and the cheapest most available food is highly processed and loaded with almost no nutritional value. In addition that, the portions are typically so huge, I can eat 2 maybe 3 meals with just one regular sized portion from a restaurant here.
2020-02-28 02:04
US ended famine. Why didn't Europe end famine?
2020-02-28 02:05
If you want the real reason we use corn syrup in everything due to giving farmers subsidies to grow corn so they wouldn't be completely out of work and we'd have a massively impoverished and unemployed rural population. Americans aren't that stupid and our education isn't near as bad as people like to say. (best universities in the world btw) Some of you really need to take a second to look at how hateful you really are it's actually pretty pathetic.

It's because to us America looks like a dystopia. On Europe we tend to be elitist about culture and heritage. We understand each other because of this common taste for historical references and local specificities. And food is a really sensitive subject in Europe, moreover as a French. We're grown with the idea that a meal should be the most important moment of the day. It's almost religious. So when we look at US behaviours and food habits we're horrified and disgusted at the same time. Your manners are very different and as it's taboo for us we can act like douche and just reject anything linked to US
2020-02-28 03:20
fair enough tbh An actual good response on hltv and I thank you for it my friend. I wish we had the same culture here but it's more rare to find. In a lot of places, food culture is very important though. Never forget the USA is massive and there are dozens of different kinds of people all over the place. We aren't one monolith :)

Unfortunately from this side of the Atlantic we just get the loudest news about you, and the loudest is rarely the best. Anyway, it would take decades to repair this image deficit and I don't think we're on the good way already so expect a long time of clichés and ignorant posts on HLTV
2020-02-28 11:05
if you want the real reason it is cheap access to calories unlike where pizza and coke cost $20 in much of europe or twice as much as in the US. and sedentary lifestyle. maybe we should go back 100yrs to where 1 in 8 in Europe were going hungry.

Obesity rate isn't really linked to food shortage or abundance of a nation. Many countries with higher GDP/inhabitants than US have lower obesity rate. Actually in industrialised countries there's a correlation between poverty and obesity. It's not only economical but mostly cultural and lower classes tend to develop bad food habits.
2020-02-28 03:24
I imagine the middle class shrinking in the us has a big part in this as well. Poor people buy cheap food which is loaded with preservatives and just utter garbage here. like 70g of sugar in a little muffin at my local bakery. I just gag thinking about how many people eat that and especially for breakfast. Nutrition education is hardly focused upon in our education system and It's just sad...

Nutrition at school is essential. And has to be handled in two points. I remember when I was a child, every year we had "the week of taste" dedicated to food, cuisine and nutrition. We had a lot of activities, tasting stuff, cooking, learning about a balanced diet, etc ... Real cool and it's great souvenirs as well as very educational. Also the school's cantine were great. It's highly regulated, the meals have to be balance everyday, and offers a lot of variety. Thus if a child isn't used to eat a specific ingredient at home he'll surely meet it for lunch at school. Sometimes children complain and just want a nice steak and french fries but at least they understand how to have an healthy various diet. And when it's the steak and fries day everybody's even more happy :D

I have no idea how they live so long with such stats. I have been eating some shitty fast foods and drinking coca-cola etc for the last 2 years(not every day, but a bit more than usual europeans and even less coca-cola, i was still preferring some water, tea or yogurt instead) and didn't even get fat but now i have some health problems and afraid to die

Coca cola is devil. When it comes to drink there's 5 solutions only. Water Tea Coffee Wine Beer Everything else is bad and should be consumed something like once a month. Water should represent at least 90% of your drinks.
2020-02-28 03:26
Yeah, i stopped drinking coca-cola already. I havent drunk it this year yet. Water is way better.
