Feel bad for ESL
ALEX |
United Kingdom HLTV_PATRIOT
Obviously feel bad for the people that were attending Katowice, but they're at least getting their event ticket refunded. And that means ESL are going to lose so much fucking money from this event. An event that they already had a permit for to hold a mass gathering of people. It is a global health risk, yes, better safe than sorry, yes, but it's still very unfortunate. The local authorities probably should never have approved the permit in the first place, or retracted it much earlier to minimise the damage, to everyone involved - we've known about this disease for long enough now.

There are a few vaccines, they're just being tested on animals at this stage
2020-02-27 20:21
There will be no "stage" xD

+1 china will test on humans straight away. arguably more ethical if u can save 1000s of lives
2020-02-27 21:06
I don't think that's what he meant
2020-02-28 15:14
Considering they mass murder for organs, this would be a no brainer for them.
2020-02-28 17:46
But that's still not what #36 meant
2020-02-28 17:47
If he meant that the virus will kill everyone before a vaccine is created, then he is underestimating China. Whatever others can do, China can do it at a much faster pace.
2020-02-28 17:49
That's still not it
2020-02-28 17:51
Because vaccines have to be created and tested before they can be used they don't just come out of thin air.

maybe even more its new virus we dont even know like half of it probably
2020-02-28 15:16
it's a new virus and vaccine is not available, have you been old enough to learn biology, it's basic knowledge?
2020-02-27 20:22
look how long HIV has been known to the world..... do we have a vaccine yet? these viruses mutate and change their genetic code from time to time, so it can be a pretty daunting task to engineer a vaccine that will work

U can look completely healthy for 14 days after u get the virus and in that time u also infect other people.
2020-02-27 20:18
There are 48 countries with confirmed cases, many of which are in Europe, including the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark and more

it really does suck that this happened at the last minute, but i also believe in the "better late than never" saying what if something did happen? what if a group of kids actually did get the virus while they were at the event? i wouldn't want that on my conscience if i had the ability to prevent it
2020-02-28 17:33
But the authorities had had dozens of opportunities to cancel before they did. It's their fault that it even got to the better late than never situation in the first place.
2020-02-28 17:43
you're right, but they might know something that we don't. you gotta imagine each government throughout Europe is talking with one another about this virus... maybe they know something, foresee something, or whatever else, and someone had to make a decision no idea, but either way.... it does really suck
2020-02-28 17:49
to avoid infections?
2020-02-27 20:16
not just that but the people who spend big money on plane tickets and hotel bookings to come watch one of the best events of the year, not everyone is filthy rich
2020-02-27 20:16
I'm perfectly aware of that I said "they're at least getting their event ticket refunded", not all their costs refunded
2020-02-27 20:20
40-160 bucks (i paid 80 for my esl one new york plus ticket) is not that much compared to the few thousands ppl spent on plane tickets, hotel bookings, food and commodities
2020-02-27 20:27
Slight exaggeration, an economy flight from Chicago (first American city that popped into my head) to Katowice in 6 days costs £529. And a hotel for a week costs less than £200 (cheapest I found was £132 but that looked garbage). If you book well ahead the price will be even lower. But as I said, I am perfectly aware of that, hence "Obviously feel bad for the people that were attending Katowice"
2020-02-27 20:37
chicago is not that expensive tickets here in nyc reach 800-1k for economy from my experiences, chicago is on the cheap end of big cities but yeah it is unfortunate, i just think the government didnt take into account how many people they screwed over have a nice day tho men)))
2020-02-27 20:39
Some guy here said that the Polish government said they'd refund all the attendees's costs, including flights Haven't seen that officially confirmed so I am skeptical, but maybe people will get lucky and u2
2020-02-27 21:05
No way that they are gonna refund all the things xddddddddd
2020-02-28 15:16
Yeah, that guy was wrong. He misread the article on hltv as Poland refunding all costs, when actually it's just ESL refunding only ticket prices
2020-02-28 15:19
event ticket are like 5% of the cost for most people
2020-02-28 17:52
Are you a parrot
2020-02-28 19:43
nope i am a factrot.
2020-02-29 06:30
they will be refunded for most parts
2020-02-27 20:25
ticket by esl? ya what about hotel and etc? whos paying?
2020-02-27 20:27
hotels also refund but flight tickets :/
2020-02-27 20:39
flight tickets r the bulk of the money tho
2020-02-27 20:40
dude they must have an insurrance to cover this kind of situation don't worry for them financially. The impact will be minimal, but in term of image, they were betting all on Kato to hype ESL back. But we will not see this unfortunately
2020-02-27 20:19
insurance don't act by an epidemic. A guy had los 30k€ for a travel to japan via ship. Cuz his insurance dont cover up this reason
2020-02-28 17:54
the only places with a lot of cases are china, south korea, japan, italy, and iran. All of the other places have less than 100 people. So stupid the polish government are overreacting like this. the crowd is what makes the event come alive!
2020-02-27 20:19
There's 650 in Italy alone
2020-02-27 20:21
Yeah we should ban all big events. Football stadiums all esports events Literally everything in this world. How dumb is that??? Its only fear. Fear is for weak people Poland -> weak
2020-02-27 20:25
Not saying I agree with it, I'm just making a correction
2020-02-27 20:30
I meant all of the other places like everywhere other than the countries i named, the ones i named are the ones that have over 100 cases, and i did name italy.
2020-02-27 20:57
Ah, I didn't read that you said Italy But it's still a lot of people pretty close to Poland Plus there's Germany with 41 cases right on the border Health and safety should still be the priority, though.
2020-02-27 21:13
I agree to a degree, but I still think that screening people that come from or have visited countries with confirmed cases recently for the virus would work fine and wouldn't cause people to have to miss out on seeing the best part of one of the biggest events of the year. I feel bad for people who flew out to katowice just to see the event, and are now being told that they cant see the event in person.
2020-02-27 21:25
Tbh, the event's pretty basic temperature checks wouldn't do much if somebody actually had the virus. That person would've walked in with a crowd and probably given it to a bunch of people, plus the virus can still transmit while the carrier shows no symptoms.

we hope they have assurance
2020-02-27 20:23
I feel bad for them, but most priority is your HEALTH. On the end of January, everybody thought it's over. But it is so damn fast, especially in Europe, because there is not any travel problems, or something like that. We can only hope for vaccine.
2020-02-27 20:25
They give some Katowice tickets away for free anyway. I think most of the money is made from sponsors and advertising.
2020-02-27 20:26
ticket sales is extremely unimportant, lol

Well the bulk of the money comes from sponsors and event tickets, right? I can't imagine Twitch ads raise anywhere near as much as those two. So #48
2020-02-27 21:10
statista.com/statistics/490358/esports-r.. no, in fact 2019 it was only 9.5% including merchandise
2020-02-28 14:36
Just taking figures from the entire eSports industry is in no way representative of a single event Especially considering online events where there are no ticket prices to begin with, so that just makes ticket prices lower inherently when looking at eSports in general This is a huge LAN event, there's no way ticket prices make up that small a portion of ESL's potential revenue
2020-02-28 15:12
and you are making up figures in your head without providing any kind of reliable source so whats your point? How do you want to argue this? lmao
2020-02-28 17:23
It's kind of common sense that a huge LAN event would make a lot of money from ticket sales? And at least I'm not providing a source that is just completely irrelevant while thinking it is And it's not an argument lmao
2020-02-28 17:42
realize that a "big lan event" as you call it automatically has more revenue in every other aspect as well
2020-02-28 17:58

To enter the event, people had to undergo a medical examination, is that not enough?
2020-02-28 00:02
A temperature check would not keep anyone safe if someone with coronavirus actually tried to attend the event They'd walk in with a huge crowd and give it to loads of people before they even make it to that stage
