I'm pretty sure they are, but if you'll ask me i consider this as metal: youtube.com/watch?v=Zs5NOrYYV2s
2020-03-23 17:17
Then you don't know the difference between metal and rock. Both genres are really deep. I used to think like that myself but after you get more into it, you start to appreciate the differences between both genres. For example, this is glam metal: youtube.com/watch?v=oAXACgxeUvo

For me the definition of metal are Black Sabbath and Judas Priest and what their music is like, now for example Scorpions are in many ways similar to them, heavy, melodic, riffy, dark, etc. and i consider this as the metal or i guess classic metal which is the only great metal for me.

Rock/early metal is indeed very original maybe many bands copied them after but i go back to the originals and original bands, back in 60s and 70s many bands actually had their own sound, their own identity, now days i don't see that in metal anymore, it's just dead in my opnion, nothing new was even invented and those bands just sound same with no soul and very robotic productions, This was original, this was something on it's own and great: youtube.com/watch?v=Zs5NOrYYV2s

As I said you have no knowledge about music :D Scorpions, AC/DC their catalogue is literally 3 songs on repeat, with different tempo :D These are few examples that you have no clue about music, metal in this case, the most innovative, original modern bands. youtube.com/watch?v=YeTNkPXRrVY youtube.com/watch?v=LhqijfqecvA youtube.com/watch?v=sWtSmiaRdqg youtube.com/watch?v=SGRgAULYgWE Listen to these, dont skip if you want to get what i mean.

I don't like AC/DC but you have no idea about Scorpions, their early albums such as in Trance, Virgin killer, Lonesome crow are the real deal, original and great and also Holiday Now i know Opeth very well, they just are just copy of the 70s prog rock bands, they did something original when they mixed death metal with prog and they had their own sound with blackwaterpark but it's ironic when you link Sorceress and Dream Theater, first is just a copy of the old 70s prog bands and second, i mean all of the Dream Theater albums sound the same, that's just the fact and Gojira is just a regular death metal band i don't know why people make so huge of them, i guess they like them only because they are "heavy" and have bit long songs? i don't know but the irony is real, that's the deal with the extreme metal in general, it's not good or original but people like it because they think it's cool to like it? or something.

Here is the one of the many examples Opeth's copy of old classics Scorpions: youtube.com/watch?v=n4fGFF4g9LA Opeth: youtube.com/watch?v=54O-jvjamvo This Opeth song is just copy of many other songs Dream Theater songs youtube.com/watch?v=jbwBsAGCMLE youtube.com/watch?v=_X_WV_5Wynw Also on the backs of angels is literal copy of Pull me under Not saying this bands did nothing good, of course they did good shit and come up with great melodies and they are worth listening to but this days bands originality is nothing compere to back then.

I might be biased considering Opeth is by far my favorite band but just listen to Opeths most recent album and if you tell me that it's a copy of Dreamtheater or whatever, we need to meet in a boxing-ring. There is a HUGE difference between being inspiried by other bands and ''copying'' them.

I'm not saying they are copy of dream thater, i'm just saying that they borrowed a lot from 70s rock and actually Dream Theater has an influance on some of their albums as well, for example Ghost Reveries, they kinda sound similar to Dream Theater on that album

I love both Dreamtheater and Opeth and I can agree they have similarities but there is a big difference, Dreamtheater sound alot more old-school in my opinion.

I think Opeth now sounds more old school with their new albums but yeah in general if you will compere Opeth's death metal albums to them, for sure Dream Theater sounds more classic, like mix of Rush and Yes with modern production.

WoW ... What a topic! "Rock" branched into sooo many different genres, and I enjoyed pretty much all of them, except "growling" and "negative vibes" death metal. Don't get me wrong: I can take it pretty hard, but some bands are just "ugly". If it is "technically sound" and the front vocal is actually singing ... instead of making repulsive noices ... I'm in for it! During the 90'es I found some pretty fancy "smart-ass" rock ... call it what you want: Dream Theather and SymphonyX where hitting it hard on the progressive front, but I like it a bit more "dirty" like for instance Blue Murder: John Sykes carried forward the legacy of Thin Lizzy and I had the honor of a support job back then. Here's an example of his work in the studio: It juzz dozzn't get any heavier than that! ;O) youtube.com/watch?v=NiX6LIVcJy8&list=PL9..

Yeah sure everyone who made psych rock and space rock is now a copycat of Pink Floyd. The problem is that OM have elements which Pink Floyd dont have. For example the arabic and tribal sounds.

Sad Wings of Destiny is one of my favorites, i love it very much, Lights out by UFO is also one of my favorites, i listen to it a lot for years. The Moody Blues - In Search of a Lost Chord pure magic as well as their other albums such as A Question of Balance, Seventh Sojourn and most of the early albums they did. First Rainbow album is also one of my favorites, there are many tbh.
