My friend is vunerable to Diseases in general and prevent himself from getting sick by using mask, hes truck driver and he traveled across the europe to UK and on borders they FORCED him to remove mask to prevent panic. Is this how you deal with outbreaks?

what do you expect from brexitors
2020-03-24 19:50
its just retarded ....
2020-03-24 20:34
whats the point of wearing mask when you are alone in a lorry. masks are also pointless they only stop you spreading it not catching it.
2020-03-25 22:11
Wrong. Mask helps minimizing you spreading, but they also have an effect minizing the risk of you getting it - partly as you may not inhale bacteria as much as without the mask and partly because the mask will stop you from touching your mouth and nose. The reason normal people are not adviced to wear a mask is because the effect is limited and there is not enough masks to go round, so everybody wants masks then there will be a even bigger shortage for healthcare workers (and they are much more at risk and also if sick more likely to spread as they are in close contact with patients).
2020-03-25 22:27
sauce? Masks only prevent dust and large particles, not bacteria
2020-03-26 18:09
It is about droplets being stoped, those are large enough that masks make a difference. Even a random scarf makes some difference.
2020-03-26 20:07
bacteria =/= virus
2020-03-26 18:44
Well, excuse me for getting a technicality wrong. It does not change things in general.
2020-03-26 20:05
It does not change the fact that surgical masks are useless as a means of protection from infecting
2020-03-26 20:15
2020-03-26 20:27
Just google it. Only specialized respirators help. Dude, seriously.
2020-03-26 20:31
You want me to find the documentation for something you say are facts. Seriously!
2020-03-26 21:21
No thats how you retard

ay lmaoooooooooo hes still looking for the extra chromosome
2020-03-25 09:58
NHS doesn't advise using masks and they "aren't proved to be useful/effective" according to them.
2020-03-24 19:52
yeah i dont blame people i blame goverment
2020-03-24 20:34
yeh but face masks dont work, so its kinda pointless wearing them, its totally reasonable for them to ask him to take it off
2020-03-24 20:56
if masks dont work why are people working in hospitals wearing them? i dont want to sound like a total nutjob but i suspect the govt is just saying that so people who dont need them the most, dont buy masks, and make the shortage worse. most masks sold in EU stop at least 94% of aerosols, FFP2 rating.
2020-03-24 22:40
I'm not talking about the ones the hospitals use, I'm talking about these ones: These are the ones that the public mostly use, I've seen around 40ish (I live in London) people with these masks, not seen any others (except for some dude wearing a full on gas mask). The masks I linked above aren't effective at stopping you from getting coronavirus (which are the ones the NHS were talking about). And the OP is probably talking about masks I linked above I would assume.
2020-03-24 22:52
people working in hospitals wear fabric masks to protect the PATIENTS, not themselves. they're meant to prevent droplets from the doctors mouth/nose to fall onto the patient. what you'd need to protect yourself would be a full mask with a built-in bio filter, not just a piece of fabric.
2020-03-24 23:01
okay, even then, it would be good for everyone who goes outside to wear a mask to make them less likely to infect others, in case they have it and dont know about it. it just doesnt make sense. unless the government is lying
2020-03-25 09:56
United Kingdom trtr098
Of course they are lying, they don't want to admit masks are effective to avoid mass panic
2020-03-25 15:46
and to prevent ppl from buying them up and driving prices up and making shortages worse. its about the money too.
2020-03-25 15:56
United Kingdom trtr098
Neither are they proved ineffective. Yes it's not an air-tight seal but it still helps. I'm seeing a lot of mass media campaign being exerted to ridicule and alienate people who wear them. Ultimately it's a personal choice like hijabs that doesn't harm anyone. The extent of smear campaign makes me wonder other intensions.

Masks don't help...
2020-03-24 23:04
France NMLVirush
Basic masks don't fully prevent you from getting the virus but at least you make sure you don't give it to others, you might be infected without knowing it
2020-03-24 23:11
France NMLVirush
Wow it's even worse than in France, here they just tell you that you shouldn't wear one but they don't force you to remove it at least
2020-03-24 23:10
But the masks doesn't work, so why would you need one anyways. I understand why the UK doesn't want panic. I Denmark the panic has been insane, so it makes sense that they wont to keep it down, and when the mask doesn't do shit, then they might as well tell him to take it off. Would have done the same
2020-03-25 15:46
France NMLVirush
Of course they work, but our governments are telling us they don't because we don't have enough for all medical workers (at least that's the reasoning behind it in France) Basic masks allow you to not spread the virus if you are infected (and you might be without knowing it), and it also protects you to some degree (even though not fully). Even covering your mouth with a scarf is useful, the point is to have your mouth, nose and if possible eyes covered. Here are some studies that suggest that even barebones homemade masks can reduce the spread of the virus :
2020-03-25 22:18
WHO recommends only using them 3 hours a day, so even if they worked people would get sick and weak from lack of oxygen because they wear those masks for entire days on end
2020-03-26 09:13
yeah? so what? not like you wear mask all the day long anyway?
2020-03-26 09:15
Well thats the problem. In China a lot of people have been wearing them every day since the outbreak, and that weakens their immune-system because of the lack of oxygen. That makes them easier infected and that makes Covid-19 all the more lethal, because their immune-system isn't strong enough to combat the disease
2020-03-26 09:53
France NMLVirush
Why would you wear a mask at home ? You should only wear one when you go outside.
2020-03-26 18:09
they do the particles are bigger than what filter can let through ofc it helps ;D
2020-03-26 09:14
Face masks do nothing to prevent the spread of viral infections; they are designed to prevent dust and pollution particulates from passing through but these are orders of magnitude larger than he microscopic virus
2020-03-25 13:04
yeah no please stop spreading false information before you get someone killed kiddo
2020-03-25 15:25
United Kingdom trtr098
Lol, the masks are rated for pm 2.5 which means particles of 2.5 nm On the other hand viruses are 100 nm Stop listening to government misinformation
2020-03-25 15:37
United States thomask156
wrong n95 is rated for .3 microns while the virus is .05-.2 microns in size
2020-03-25 15:59
United Kingdom trtr098
'Since filters are tested against the most penetrating particle size of 0.3 um an APR with a P100 classification would be at least 99.97% efficient at removing particles of this size. Particles with a size both less than and greater than 0.3 um are filtered at an efficiency greater than 99.97%.' 'A little online research will reveal that the flu virus is .17 microns in size. Clearly smaller than even N100 masks can filter out. However, it is critical to understand that the flu virus does not float in the air by itself. The flu virus is transported from patient to patient on droplets of excretions from sneezing and coughing. These particles are typically 5 microns or larger.

You're still wrong saying the virus is bigger than the holes.

2020-03-26 09:16
To be fair, the masks doesn't really work unless you are sick and want to prevent others from getting sick. Futhermore, it is recommended that you only use the masks 3 hours a day, so I don't see what the big deal is
2020-03-25 15:39
the government telling people they dont help, is causing virus to spread more and is getting people killed.
2020-03-25 15:57

Masks are better for use on infected people so they don't spread it, not to prevent being infected in the first place.
2020-03-26 18:48
Oh we have sherlock holmes here no shit none wears mask inside their own apartment, but when you have to leave the lorry and you need to fucking talk with someone and prevent yourself from getting sick it helps.dont get too ahead of your self kiddo.
